The video game industry in China has received a new boost with the announcement of Swords of Legends, formerly known as Gujian 4, an action role-playing game in development by Wangyuan Shengtang and Aurogon Shanghai. This title, aimed at the global market, is inspired by the rich classical Chinese literature and the folklore of the Far East, a niche that has proven to be successful, especially after the impact of Black Myth: Wukong.
The fourth part of a legendary franchise
Swords of Legends is developed on the powerful Unreal Engine 5, promising to deliver a premier visual and technical experience. Unlike other contemporary titles, the game is set up as a linear adventure, allowing players to explore vast areas at their own pace, without being pigeonholed into open-world or soulslike categories. The difficulty has been designed to be accessible, with a progression system that allows players to traditionally upgrade their characters, which could attract a broader audience.
Regarding gameplay, Swords of Legends will include innovative mechanics, such as the absorption of monster spirits for summons during combat, as well as cooperative attacks. In addition, side quests, flexible skills, and various weapon configurations will be offered, adding layers of depth to the player experience. Although this is the fourth title in the saga, the developers have confirmed that it is not necessary to know the previous installments to enjoy the game.
Currently, Swords of Legends is in active production, having received funding in 2024. Although there is still no defined release date, the recent trailer has generated interest and expectations in the gaming community, suggesting a promising future for this ambitious project.
