After years of speculation and rumors, Toei Animation has confirmed the return of the Dragon Ball Super anime during the Dragon Ball Genki Dama Festival held on January 25 in Japan. This event, which celebrated the work of Akira Toriyama, not only announced the return of the anime but also more content and DLC for the video game Sparking! Zero.
Toriyama’s work is still alive
The return will be accompanied by an ambitious remaster of the Beerus arc, which will utilize the original episodes but with significant improvements in pacing, animation, and visual effects, following the successful path that One Piece had charted with its own remastering. This new approach aims to align the series with more modern visual standards, and although no exact date has been announced, the remaster is expected to begin airing in the fall of 2026.
In addition to the remaster, Toei Animation has revealed that it is working on Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, an adaptation of the Moro arc from the manga, which is expected to hit the screen in 2027. This follows the initial remastering and suggests careful planning to cover not only this arc but also other future ones, such as Granolah and the Institute, focused on Goten and Trunks.
However, uncertainty persists regarding the status of Toyotaro’s manga, which remains on hiatus. Expectations are high among fans, who can rejoice in the certainty that Goku and his friends will return to the world of anime, after a five-year gap since the conclusion of Dragon Ball Super’s airing in 2018. With a horizon full of new content, Toei seems to have learned from its past experiences and is ready to deliver a quality narrative with animation that satisfies the franchise’s fans.
