The most unexpected collaboration: Hello Kitty and Junji Ito join forces

Junji Ito and Sanrio have joined forces to create joint merchandise that, although it may seem strange, is as terrifying as it is absolutely cute.

Japanese people are specialists in creating seemingly impossible concepts. They have manga for absolutely everything you can imagine. They are not afraid of anything because they know that there is a niche for everything. But they also know a trick that every great artist knows. Sometimes, two seemingly opposite things are actually made for each other. It’s just that no one has dared to put them together until now.

That must have been what they thought when conceiving the merchandising collaboration between Sanrio and Junji Ito. The most famous horror manga creator in Japan has joined forces with the company behind Hello Kitty, the world’s most famous kitten, to create a series of merchandise that will be sold in Parco stores in Tokyo and Osaka. Although mainly focused on Hello Kitty and Tomie, other characters from both the mangaka and the company also appear, in a wide range of merchandise.

This collaboration will be available between August 3rd and September 9th in Tokyo and between September 27th and October 14th in Osaka. If you happen to be on vacation in Japan this summer, congratulations. You can take advantage and get some of the most original merchandise pieces of recent years.
