We have all experienced this at some point. We go on vacation to the countryside, to our grandparents’ house, and we don’t have an internet connection. Well, at least not enough to play our favorite video games. It is at that moment, in a world of endless online games, when we appreciate those games that also offer the possibility of playing solo and without the need to be connected. Of course, some have a catch.
Play without Internet, Internet required
Such is the case of Payday 3, which after nine months has finally decided to add an option to play without the need for an internet connection. There is only one problem: when all the fans download it tomorrow, they will discover… that they still need the internet to connect to the servers and save their progress, as well as to access the game mode itself.
For now, the game developers have stated that this is not the vision they had in mind, and for now, it will serve as a beta version to see how it goes. Not only that: in addition, the game will run a bit worse because the parts that were previously on the servers will now run on your computer locally, but at least they have assured you that it works and that you will be able to progress so that when you return to the online servers, you won’t lose anything you have done.
To cover their backs, the game director has stated that “This is not an offline mode, it is a solo mode, a first step towards something that is yet to come, not something that we are releasing and considering finished”. The current world of video games, frankly, is too complicated. Although you can’t play Payday 3 from your grandmother’s village without the Internet, at least this is better than nothing, right?
