According to a report from Variety, Amazon Prime Video’s decision is due to a drop in viewership recorded during the second season, which did not meet the high standards required by the streaming platform. This news surprises many, as Gen V had been praised for its quality and for offering a different tone than the original series.
The characters are expected to debut starting from episode 5 of the upcoming season, which keeps the connection between both productions alive.
Despite the cancellation of Gen V, Amazon continues to invest in The Boys universe with other spin-offs in development, such as Vought Rising and The Boys: Mexico, which will premiere next year. This indicates that, although a series may have come to an end, the narrative potential of the world created by Garth Ennis still has much to offer.
