Without Gen V or The Boys, Homer loses his mind

Eric Kripke, the showrunner of “The Boys,” expressed his displeasure at the cancellation and emphasized that he had no decision-making power in this matter. “I didn’t cancel the series. I was fighting to keep it, almost more than anyone else. I’m as disappointed as everyone else, he stated in an interview. Kripke had plans for a third season that would explore the development of Marie’s powers, who had discovered her ability to revive people.

Despite the cancellation of Gen V, Kripke remains hopeful that the characters can return in future projects. Amazon has shown interest in hearing new stories set in the universe of The Boys. Currently, other spinoffs are in development, such as Vought Rising, a prequel focused on Soldier Boy and Stormfront, and The Boys: Mexico, written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer and produced by renowned talents like Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal.

Kripke’s interest in integrating the characters from Gen V into new narratives could open up opportunities for more ambitious stories that transcend the university setting that often limited the series. The future of The Boys universe seems to be just beginning, as the plots surrounding these superheroes continue to expand.

The British actor Chance Perdomo, known for his role in the series Gen V, tragically passed away at the age of 27 in March 2024, following a motorcycle accident. His death has deeply impacted both fans and colleagues, who have expressed their grief and admiration for the young talent. The showrunner of Gen V, Michele Fazekas, commented on the emotional challenge they faced in continuing the story of his character, Andre, after the loss of Perdomo.

In a recent interview, Fazekas emphasized that, although Andre does not physically appear in the second season of Gen V, the character remains the focus of the narrative. The season had been conceived with him in mind, as the writers had written five episodes that now need to be adjusted. “Like much of what real people have lost, we have also lost Andre”, said Fazekas, reflecting the complex reality of “mourning” both the actor and the character he portrayed.

The first episodes of this new installment, released on September 17 on Prime Video, reveal that Andre meets a tragic fate while trying to escape from the Elmira Institute, the place where he and his friends were held captive at the end of the first season. In an attempt to free himself, the character suffers a fatal accident while trying to open an exit using his metal manipulation powers.

Michele Fazekas emphasized the emotional connection they developed with the character, saying that, in a way, they got to know Andre better than Perdomo in their brief time together. “Losing Chance is unimaginable, but we have also lost this boy that the entire writers’ room cared for deeply”, Fazekas concluded, reflecting the collective sadness for both losses.
