Thief: The Dark Project Remastered has received a release date. Scheduled for December 3 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series S|X and PC, the game will come out in both a standard version and a Deluxe edition. The latter will include, besides the game, an art book, the soundtrack and a novel that serves as a prequel to the game, making it the perfect introduction to the game.
A legendary game that returns in style
Though the most notable part of the announcement has been the announcement of the game’s physical edition. Announced for both PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 for March 20, 2027, it will come in three editions: a standard one, a steelbook and a very special collector’s edition. Called the trapezoidal edition, it will include the game, the standard edition and the steelbook, as well as the manual and a physical art book, all of it in a trapezoid-shaped box that imitates the distinctive boxes of the three original Thief games. Which weren’t rectangular, but trapezoidal.
This is the remaster of Thief: The Dark Project, an immersive sim from Looking Glass Studios that is considered one of the first 3D stealth games in history. Considered a masterpiece and one of the best games in history, it gave rise to two sequels: Thief II: The Metal Age and Thief: Deadly Shadow. This remaster, besides including all the content from its Gold version, will be updated for modern consoles and PCs with 4K resolution and up to 120fps, and a whole new campaign.
While no plan has yet been announced for the rest of the trilogy, it wouldn’t be surprising if they followed up with the remaster of Thief II: The Metal Age. But we’ll have to wait to see whether Thief: The Dark Project Remastered turns out well and lives up to expectations.
