The developers of Meta want us to tell the world, in our own voice, how our day has been or how our life is going: the compatibility with longer voice messages in status updates.
The development of voice messages as status updates has been in progress for a long time, with sightings dating back to July 2022. When we found out about it in January of this year, it seemed much more polished and ready for launch.
The hunch was not off track, because WhatsApp announced the feature in February with support for sharing 30-second voice recordings with the same audience that usually views images, videos, and links in your status updates. The detectives from WABetaInfo have just discovered a more generous recording limit of 1 minute that is being applied to users.

When installing the latest version of the messaging application on both Android and iOS, testers found a new change that affects voice messages, which now have a limit of one minute each, instead of 30 seconds.
This change also affects status updates, allowing people to share ephemeral voice messages with the larger audience that status updates bring.
As a result of this new limit, people who prefer to send voice messages to save time and effort typing longer messages can now share a few longer recordings instead of many shorter and consecutive clips.
However, WABetaInfo emphasizes that end users like you and me will have to update the application from the Play Store before being able to send one-minute voice messages.
