Zero Motorcycles Launches Affordable XE and XB Electric Models

Zero Motorcycles has officially commenced production of its new XE and XB electric motorcycles, with the first units expected to begin shipping shortly.

This marks a significant shift for the brand, as it sets out to penetrate the growing market for more affordable two-wheeled electric vehicles, stepping away from its typical high-performance offerings priced between $15,000 and $25,000.

Unveiled in November 2024, the XE and XB models are positioned to attract a wider customer base. Priced at $4,395 and $6,495 respectively, these models aim to compete against budget-friendly brands such as Sur Ron and Talaria in the expanding light electric dirt bike segment.

Challenges Ahead for Zero’s XE and XB as U.S. Legal Status Remains Uncertain

“Bikes are rolling and the wait is almost over!” the company announced, revealing excitement over the production rollout on their social media platforms.

However, potential barriers to sales exist, particularly in the U.S., where the XB and XE lack street-legal status. This restriction contrasts sharply with their homologation in Europe, where they can be legally operated on public roads—a factor that may limit their adoption in the challenging American market.

The specifications further highlight the differences between these models. The XE features a robust 4.3 kWh removable battery and a 15.5 kW (21 hp) motor, allowing it to reach speeds of 85 km/h (53 mph).

Meanwhile, the XB, designed with beginners in mind, is equipped with a 7.5 kW (10 hp) motor and a 2.4 kWh battery, achieving a top speed of 28 mph (45 km/h) and a range of 47 miles (75 km).

While the XE and XB do not aim to rival Zero’s premium lineup, they provide an accessible entry point into electric motorcycling. As production continues and shipping begins, Zero’s focus on affordable options indicates a commitment to a flexible future in the world of motorcycles.
