Genius or lazy? Students use ChatGPT in their exams

Stanford students and faculty alike are grappling with the rise of ChatGPT, the smartest and most recognized chatbot on the Internet today. However, it seems that students are adapting best to this technology, or at least that’s what a survey by The Stanford Daily says.

Something is about to change within the educational landscape and teachers are already shaking their heads (how hard it is going to be to catch someone cheating). But as is often the case, young people are always several steps ahead. The Daily’s survey shows a very interesting result: many students have already used ChatGPT for their final exams.

Whether the chatbot will raise a review of the Honor Code (the University’s rules regarding academic integrity) remains to be seen. However, a spokesperson for the center confirmed that the Judicial Affairs Board is aware of the entire matter and that it is also reviewing these tools carefully.

Spokesperson Dee Mostofi wrote that “students are expected to complete coursework without unallowed aids […] which includes AI tools like ChatGPT.” It’s a fact: the rise of artificial intelligence has caught many off guard, and educators are more scared than ever.

Still, the debate is served. While professors and others who are more old-fashioned think that using ChatGPT is a crime, others simply see it as another tool, intended for generating ideas. Anyway, the question remains: is ChatGPT a help or a more sophisticated way of cheating?

For Mostofi, academic assignments will remain unchanged. This means that students will be “supported to develop linked thinking and improve their writing skills”. Or what amounts to the same thing: they don’t plan to do anything about it. In other places, such as Australia, they have at least decided to “combat” ChatGPT with the return of paper and pencil.

To add more fuel to the matter, OpenAI is working on the paid version of ChatGPT, the option “professional”. However, professors will have nothing to fear here: spending money is not in the plans of a university student.

New iOS 16.3 brings a crucial new feature to iPhone

Apple had already dropped that iOS 16.3 was ready to see the light of the sun this very week. As usual for the company with the bitten apple, updates are usually released on Tuesdays, so it was to be expected to see it appear on our devices today . Said and done: iOS 16.3 is already among us and, in addition, it is accompanied by important security improvements.

iOS 16 DOWNLOAD

However, this time it does not go alone: together with iOS 16.3, Apple has taken the opportunity to launch iPadOS 16.3, tvOS 16.3, watchOS 9.3 and macOS 13.2, all of them with great improvements, especially in the security section. Of course, this is not an update that will change your life. Although it is a minor revision, it is important to emphasize the improvements in the privacy of our data.

The list of new features of iOS 16.3 is short but interesting: on the iPhone and iPad we will see support for security keys (like Google‘s famous Titan Security Key), which will give us an extra layer of protection if we want to log in with our Apple ID. In addition, we can configure iCloud to be able to use end-to-end encryption, which guarantees that our data remains private and inaccessible to third parties.

In addition to fixes, we will also see an addition on our iPhones: a new wallpaper makes an appearance in honor of Black History Month, along with new spheres within watchOS 9.3.

Another fix is closely related to the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple’s most “pro” phone had been suffering for some time from a bug on its screen, where flickering horizontal lines were visible. Thanks to iOS 16.3, users will no longer have to see those annoying lines again.

The new second-generation Homepod will also be compatible with this update, in addition to fixing bugs within Freeform, Apple’s collaborative application. Specifically, there was a bug that caused some drawings to not appear on shared whiteboards. Another bug that caused the lock screen to stay black has also been fixed.

How can I install iOS 16.3 on my iPhone?

As with iOS 16, this new version is compatible with all iPhones starting from the iPhone 8. If your device has not yet notified you that there is a new update, don’t worry as you can start the process yourself from Settings> General> Software update.

Forspoken: users are amazed and surprised by memes

The Square Enix title oscillates between cheers and criticism hidden among the meme.

We haven’t even been with Forspoken for 24 hours and it is already taking over the social networks with dozens of publications. The best thing about them is that they are very different from each other, that is, they range from praise for the game for how well it does many things to the funniest meme for how badly it does many others. In fact, this is Forspoken, a mixture of good and bad fields that leaves a rather curious hodgepodge.

We already told you yesterday that its demo has done more harm than good, to which we must now add that the published reviews are not very flattering (it has a 68 out of 100 on Metacritic, a low score considering that it was expected to be one of the games of the year). However, as soon as the game hit the Internet, the first of the memes was born: the bracelet worn by Frey, the main character, won’t shut up even under water. And let’s face it: she’s not known for being quiet either.

As a result of this type of tweets -the first of them has more than 35,000 likes-, users are criticizing the game’s dialogues -those that follow this scheme are common- and the fact that the bracelet does not stop talking. In fact, the game does such strange things as pausing at times to force the conversation, i.e., not only does it not play in the background, but it interrupts the gameplay.

But there are not only complaints about the game as we say. Along with these there is also a lot of praise. The main thing that is getting cheers is the parkour of the protagonist, which is very fun -and here we can attest, we have already spent several hours with the adventure-. Also, they point out that although the open world is very empty, it is beautiful. One of lime and another of sand. And for proof, these photos.

Kings League at the Camp Nou: where to buy tickets and everything you need to know

Now you can get tickets with prices ranging from 10 to 60 euros.

The followers of the Kings League had one of those announcements last week that leaves their mouths open: the final phases of the championship will be played at the Spotify Camp Nou, that is, at the Fútbol Club Barcelona stadium.

As we know there is a lot of information flying around the net, at Softonic we have compiled it for you. Here’s everything you need to know about the Kings League at Camp Nou, from where to buy tickets to the price of each one.

What day is the Final Four?

The Kings League Final Four will take place on March 26, 2023 starting at 6:00 pm.

Which teams are playing in the Final Four?

We don’t know this yet, since we have only played four rounds of the championship. However, we may already have some clues. For example, the eight teams with the most wins will play each other in the quarterfinals. The four winners will play in the Final Four at the Camp Nou.

Taking into account that there are two teams that have a total of zero victories, it seems that the path clears a bit.

Where to buy tickets?

Tickets can now be purchased from the Fútbol Club Barcelona website. In principle, the entire stadium will be enabled for use, so a good number of attendees is expected.

Click here to access the Kings League Final Four tickets.

What’s the price?

The price of tickets ranges from 10 euros to 60 euros. In this way, the prices are quite adjusted so that the largest possible number of spectators attend.

At this time, the website has already sold out the tickets for the Central Tribune 1, Lateral Inferior 2 and Gol Gradería Inferior 2. If you want to go to the Kings League, we recommend that you don’t let it go too long.

Extreme Minecraft Day 6: Nil Ojeda says goodbye to the series dressed as Spider-Man (he is totally serious)

There are 51 participants left of the 64 that started. Of course, almost all on the tightrope …

After the rest break that took place on Sunday, January 22, the 55 streamers remaining in Extreme Minecraft returned to play in the series. Well, let’s clarify: for some the game was short-lived, as they lost their last remaining lives and were eliminated from the tournament.

That may be, precisely, one of the headlines that Day 6 of Extreme Minecraft leaves us: almost all the participants are already on the brink of the abyss. In fact, yesterday there were 20 deaths and several eliminations. let’s go with it.

Most Viewed Minecraft Extreme Day 6

After the fifth day where there were changes in the ranking of the most viewed channels, with the sixth day everything “returned” to normal. After all, the main streamers broadcasted again, so the smaller ones could not do anything. The table was as follows:

  1. Auronplay: 128,100 spectators of maximum peak.
  2. Ibai Llanos: 84,900 spectators.
  3. Rubius: 56,500 spectators.
  4. Marki Lokuras: 27,700 viewers.
  5. ElXokas: 26,700 spectators.

Minecraft Extreme Day 6 Fatalities

As we said in the first paragraph, the sixth day of Minecraft Extreme left us a total of 20 deaths with 4 eliminated (the second day with more lives lost). The first death of the day was the famous Ibai Llanos, who only has one life left. The eliminations, on the other hand, were for three streamers who had already been on the tightrope since the previous day: Nil Ojeda, KajaNapalm, HitBoxKing and Mayichi.

We have already been warning that almost all of them are one life away from being eliminated from the competition, which is why every day it is more fun to watch the series (and the tests are also more difficult, of course). These are all the deaths:

  • Ibai Llanos: 1 death.
  • Riobo: 2 deaths.
  • GenesisGtv: 1 death.
  • Nil Ojeda: 1 kill (eliminated).
  • LakshartNia: 1 death.
  • ElPerita: 1 death.
  • ItsVicens: 1 death.
  • ZormanVideos: 1 death.
  • Axozer: 1 kill.
  • ElisaWave: 1 death.
  • KajaNapalm: 1 kill (eliminated).
  • NexuzHD: 1 kill.
  • Dess_t3: 1 kill.
  • HitBoxKing: 1 kill (eliminated).
  • ElMariana: 2 deaths.
  • Roiereal: 1 death.
  • AllelVCR: 1 death.
  • Mayichi 1 kill (eliminated).

Marvel’s Avengers vanished: Is Games as a Service doomed?

Over the weekend, Crystal Dynamics confirmed that development on Marvel’s Avengers is ending. This means that there’s no new content coming in the foreseeable future. For all intents and purposes, Marvel’s Avengers, at least in terms of the games by Crystal Dynamics, is dead.

This is not the first experience within the games as a service business model to go belly up, and it likely won’t be the last. Given how many live service games have failed to reach projected success, we now have to ask, is Games as a Service dead?

The end of Marvel’s Avengers

Marvel’s Avengers is due to receive an update on March 31st, 2023. The game will then be in version 2.8, and that is where it is going to remain. The last update to the game took place in November, in which we saw the addition of The Winter Soldier to the packed roster of playable heroes. We also received the Cloning Lab Omega-Level Threat. However, even though there’s one update left, the developer has described this March update as a final balance update. This means that we’re not expecting any new cosmetics to be added to Avengers’ Marketplace.

The developer has assured gamers that the game’s single-player and multiplayer content is expected to remain available indefinitely, even subsequent to the final date of support. Crystal Dynamics will officially end support for Marvel’s Avengers in September. Even though the game’s core content isn’t expected to be affected, ending support means that there will be no further bug fixes either.

So, should content break at any time in the future subsequent to the end of support, it will most likely remain that way. There’s one silver lining, though. Crystal Dynamics has stated that after March 31st, ‘Marketplace, Challenge Card, and Shipment cosmetic content will be made available to all players for free‘.

This includes every nameplate, outfit, emote, and takedown. It’s sad that this game is now experiencing its sunset, but it’s not alone. Numerous other Games as a Service experiences are facing a similar fate, if they haven’t already succumbed to it.

What is Games as a Service

The simplest explanation here is that Games as a Service is a business model for prolonged and continuous revenue generation after a game has been released. In the old days, you used to buy a game, play it, and then move on to another game, or the next title in the franchise. Now, developers are paying far more attention to ensuring the longevity of a game with regular updates and new DLC (downloadable content).

Each game has its own setup, but if you look past the cover and the core experience, you’ll find that most games released today operate with this model. If we take The Sims as an example, with previous games like The Sims 2 and 3, you’d buy the base game, then you’d buy the DLC after the fact to include more gameplay options and variations.

With The Sims 4, we have a similar model, except there’s more content, more updates, and all of this happens more frequently. This is an example of live service or Games as a Service. The idea here is that people don’t get bored with the content for The Sims 4; there’s always something new around the corner. However, unless you use a utility like EA Play, it’s not a subscription-based service.

The subscription model is most commonly seen in games like Fortnite, Roblox, and largely all new games within the Call of Duty franchise. Here, you can play the game for free or after a one-time purchase, but the games have subscription services for extra content and other in-game perks. These are usually referred to as game passes, battle passes, or membership tiers, and they’re the current epitome of the Games as a Service business model.

Is games as a service dead?

Why does Games as a Service exist?

Essentially, there are benefits for both the developers and gamers with this business model. In times gone by, developers would only make money from the sale of a game. You buy a disc or a digital copy of a game, and the developer receives compensation. But, that means that there’s no opportunity to keep the game profitable. When the hype for a game dies down, it’s time to release the next experience.

Games as a Service gives you access to more content more often, keeping the game fresh, as we’ve seen with GTA Online and its constant DLC additions. It also means that the developers now have a steady flow of income from the game in question. The games are more profitable, and developers have more resources at their disposal for marketing campaigns and investing in a better gaming experience for the player.

Is games as a service dead?

The downfall of Games as a Service

This might sound a bit dramatic, given how all of the Games as a Service experiences we’ve mentioned so far are still alive and kicking. However, there’s a trend with newer Games as a Service experiences, and it might spell doom for the business model. Below, we’ll discuss a few issues with Games as a Service, and then discuss why this business model may not work for much longer.

Unfinished releases

Nowhere is this more prevalent than in The Sims 4. The game has come under constant fire for releasing rushed packs that don’t work at an exorbitant premium. My Wedding Stories was all about the perfect wedding, yet it completely broke the core game mechanic to the point where weddings were impossible. Dine Out added the ability to run a restaurant, but was also so broken that it was impossible to do so.

The list continues. EA is not the only culprit, though. This revenue model seems to make it difficult to ensure that a game or update will work as expected. However, this does make allowances for updates and bug fixes with each DLC release, some of which end up fixing issues. Some. In the old days, a game was either released in a perfect state or it remained broken forever.

Play to win

This is a game tactic that many gamers despise. Gaming used to rely on skill, but with the Games as a Service model, all you need is enough in-game cash to purchase the best gear, and you’re guaranteed a win against those who don’t buy their way to the top.

Capitalism

The core game, in most cases, costs money. In some cases, like with The Sims 4, the base game is released for free eventually, but this isn’t always the case. On top of the core game, you need to pay for expansions, gear, perks, and all sorts of other DLC that promise to make the game more enjoyable. Everything costs money these days, and gaming is no longer cheap.

DLC quality

Another pet peeve of many gamers is when developers start adding nonsense, tongue-in-cheek content just for the sake of content. If you’re paying a monthly fee to play the game, you expect regular content drops. However, when the developer releases DLC that doesn’t add substance to the game or seems in poor taste, it leads you to question the validity of the subscription.

Limited time content

This is another aspect that drives some gamers up the wall. Many new AAA console games function in this way, where they release a limited time battle pass with an expiration date within which you have to do certain things to gain certain rewards. This is good for the devs as it basically ensures that people are online and playing, but gamers may feel the need to grind like crazy in order to get the limited-time rewards, to their own detriment. This limited-time fiasco is the basis of the Black Friday sale that most retailers employ, and it’s based on the age-old idea of FOMO (fear of missing out).

Is games as a service dead?

Is Games as a Service dead?

Not yet, but maybe soon. The biggest issue that developers are facing is that 2015-2019 was basically a boom period for this business model. The games that are the most successful have basically been around since then, and continue to remain profitable. Because of this ‘old reliable’ notion that gamers have toward these games, it’s difficult for new live service games to break into the market, particularly those without prior titles within the niche. Sims 5, an upcoming live-service game, will likely be successful because it has The Sims 4 player base to rely on. The same can be said for Call of Duty and any other long-standing institution within the gaming industry.

However, players have already begun to tire of the business model, and it is the players who decide whether a business model works or dies quietly. If the new games continue failing, and the developers continue landing in hot water over less-than-savory business practices, the Games as a Service business model could be dead before long.

We don’t know what will come next, but, it likely won’t be a return to the old one-time-purchase strategy as this is not profitable in the long run. All we can do is hope that the industry doesn’t find a way to charge even more and become even more greedy in the next iteration of gaming revenue models.

One Outlook to Rule them All: Microsoft continues its way to scrap stock mail app in Windows 11

We’ve known for a while that Microsoft has been working on ‘One Outlook’ or ‘Project Monarch’ with the goal of replacing the native email client on Windows 11 and 10. They plan to bring a new Outlook experience to users’ desktops. This process slowly started to take form with the release of the ‘Outlook for Windows’ app that became available to select people to test out. Now, it seems the next step is looming.

Outlook DOWNLOAD

It would appear that Microsoft is getting closer to replacing the stock Mail app in Windows 10 and 11 as a ‘Preview’ button becomes available for the UWP Mail app. By clicking on the toggle, users will be redirected to download the new Outlook for Windows app. This illustrates that Microsoft is getting closer to completely replacing the stock Email app.

Microsoft Releases Preview of Outlook for Windows App

However, the UWP Mail app is still only in Preview mode, meaning it’s not perfect yet. There are still a few things that have to be sorted out before it can truly replace the native email app. For one, it appears that the new Outlook for Windows app is only a progressive web app. This means that even if you download and use the app, the native Mail app will still be on your device for now.

Another thing to note is that the new Outlook for Windows PWA looks much different than the UWP equivalent. The new app has an interface very similar to Outlook.com. It should be noted that despite a similar look, the Outlook for Windows app doesn’t have all the features that the Outlook desktop client has – which could be frustrating for some users. Some of these key features include support for third-party email accounts, offline support, web add-ins, and more.

If you’re someone that only uses the bare functionality when sending emails, or if you only rarely send emails, you might not notice that these features are missing. However, businesses, freelancers, or anyone active on their email accounts might find the lack of these features annoying.

Microsoft has confirmed that they’ll be adding additional features, such as support for Gmail, soon, we hope that includes the above features as well as other beneficial ones to make the app stand out.

If you want to give the new app a try, you can download it directly from the Microsoft store. It would seem that Microsoft is making a few changes amid the current changes happening in the company. We look forward to seeing how these changes affect the production of services like Outlook.

Riot Games hacked: Valorant and other games updates delayed

Riot Games, th company that brought us, League of Legends, Valorant, and many others, has been hacked. While the developers at Riot Games are still in the process of investigating the effects of the hack, they’ve let players know that there may be delays with patches and updates across many of their games.

Valorant DOWNLOAD

Riot Games announced the hack on Friday evening via Twitter. Along with the announcement, the team also assured players that they’ll keep them up to date concerning the investigation. The security breach occurred in their production and development environment, hence one of the reasons for delays in rolling out new updates.

Riot games

The team also announced that no player information was lost or accessed during the attack. The hack affected production, however, which is affecting the creation of new upgrades and improvements. While the team is still investigating what games have been affected, it’s clear that League of Legends and Valorant will see delays. This hack affects updates introducing new elements, as well as patches to fix bugs and vulnerabilities.

Another game that also has confirmed delays is Teamfight Tactics. Players were expecting an update with balance changes for battle. However, Riot Games announced that the release of this patch will also be delayed due to the recent hack. The developers are working on a hotfix to address the most meaningful modification until they’re able to release the full patch.

Riot Games also admitted to players that they don’t have all the answers yet, but that they want to keep everyone affected in the loop with what is happening following the breach. This is a nice change of pace compared to other businesses that want to hide a breach or hack for as long as possible.

Riot Games isn’t the first large company to face a breach of security this year, Paypal is another company that’s already suffered a hack. While many players tend to get panicked, there are steps that you can take to ensure your online security and protect you against these threats.

The first thing you should do is to ensure that all of your accounts have strong and unique passwords. If you’re scared that you’ll forget all the different passwords, then make use of a secure password manager. Along with this, you can add another layer of security and online anonymity by using a VPN or proxy. While this doesn’t protect the information you give to platforms, it does make you difficult to track and therefore difficult to become part of a bigger attack.

Not sure if your accounts are safe? That’s not a problem. With more platforms requiring login and personal information, it’s easy to forget all the accounts you have and monitor breaches on those accounts. In this situation, you can use haveIbeenpwned to check whether your credentials were involved in a breach.

Breaches and hacks are becoming increasingly frequent, and no one is truly safe from these attacks. As such, it’s essential for businesses and individuals alike to do everything they can to protect their data. Using strong passwords, two-factor authentication, and being aware of what you share online is a good place to start.

How to install iOS 16.3

iPhone and iPad models can now access the latest iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3 updates. To update your device, navigate to the Settings app, select General, and then select Software Update. If the update is not immediately available, keep checking, as it may take some time for it to reach your device. The updates were expected to be made available to all users within an hour of the release yesterday, and we have yet to isolate any issues with this process.

After starting the installation, your iPad or iPhone will download the update and then prompt you to restart your device to complete the process. Keep in mind that your device will not be usable while it is rebooting to install the update. Additionally, Apple is releasing iOS 15.7.3 for older iPhones that are not compatible with iOS 16, as well as iOS 12.5.7 for devices that cannot support iOS 13 or newer versions.
