Starlink in India: government says approvals are fair, security is the hurdle

India’s Ministry of Communications pushed back today on Elon Musk’s complaints about Starlink’s path to approval in India, saying the country’s satellite-clearance process is fair, transparent, and non-discriminatory, not some protective wall for unnamed “oligarchs” or a monopolistic squeeze.

The ministry’s position is straightforward: Starlink, Eutelsat OneWeb, and Reliance Jio Space Technology all hold GMPCS licenses, and all three are still waiting on security clearance before they can get spectrum.

So the real bottleneck is security. Indian rules on in-country gateways, data sovereignty, and lawful interception were shaped in part by what the country learned from the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

SpaceX has already spent more than five years getting ready. It has tied up with Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, appointed Prabhakar Jayakumar to run its India operations, and set up more than 20 gateway sites along with hundreds of antennas. At India Mobile Congress, Lauren Dreyer also said Starlink wants to back Narendra Modi’s push for universal connectivity, serving as a complement in hard-to-reach areas.

And this story still matters if you’ve been following satellite internet in India. After the 2021 preorders, the 2022 refunds, and the fight over spectrum allocation, the market could exceed $528 million by 2030. Even so, Starlink still isn’t commercially available in India, and when it does arrive, it will still cost more than the country’s ultra-cheap mobile data.

It’s Steam’s autumn sale: these are the games you can’t miss

Steam’s autumn sale ought to cool us down. Especially when, like this year, autumn has been a bit strange weather-wise. That’s why we’re going to help you with a great selection of the titles you shouldn’t miss. Some very popular, others more niche, all of them excellent and for every budget. These are the titles you shouldn’t miss and that we recommend. Let’s not waste time, let’s get to it!

Solasta: Crown of the Magister (€2.99 | 90% off)

Solasta: Crown of the Magister Download

If Baldur’s Gate 3 seemed excellent to you, but you miss a good classic-style isometric PC RPG with all the depth of the first two entries, then look no further. Solasta: Crown of the Magister does exactly that for an absolutely unbeatable price. It doesn’t have the most incredible story, but instead, it gives you a tremendously fun game that feels like a very well thought-out update of a classic style that isn’t made nearly as much anymore. And sometimes that’s all we need, especially for what costs little more than a coffee.

Monster Hunter Rise (€3.99 | -90%)

Monster Hunter Rise Download

Maybe you’re still not into Monster Hunter, it catches your eye, but you can’t bring yourself to spend €40 or €60 on the game. That’s normal: it’s an intimidating franchise. But this makes it easy. For €4 you can play the penultimate game in the series and find out whether it’s for you or not and, if it is, easily sink 100 or 200 hours into it before you can say you’ve finished it. Even though it doesn’t include its expansion, Sunbreak, it doesn’t even need it to feel complete; that’s how deep and dense this game feels.

Celeste (€4.74 | 75% off)

Celeste Download

One of the first indie games that really managed to explode into the mainstream, and for very good reasons. Celeste is a game that, if you want to play it casually, is fun, tender, and very interesting, but if you want to 100% it, it’s going to ask everything of you if you want to get the most out of it. Accessible, but at the same time really difficult if you want to squeeze it for all it’s worth, and with exquisite storytelling, art, and music, it’s a game you shouldn’t miss if you like platformers even the slightest bit and still haven’t played it.

Far Cry 6 (€5.99 | -90%)

Far Cry 6 Download

One of Ubisoft’s best recent games and one of the best Far Crys. Even though a lot of people dismissed it, probably because of franchise fatigue and the company itself, Far Cry 6 is an outstanding entry in the franchise. With the best of open-world design, a strong story, and characters packed with personality, the franchise’s classic emergent gameplay is still present and as finely tuned as ever. Making this one of the best modern entries in the series.

Derelict Star (€6.40 | 20% off)

Derelict Star Download

Even though this one is for the hardcore, it’s one of those games that has to be here. Derelict Star is a very demanding precision platformer, with charming pixel art, that demands one very specific thing: pixel-perfect jumps. Tremendously demanding, it’s not a game for the vast majority of people, but those who enjoy perfectly calculated jumps and difficulty bordering on cruelty will find a real treat in Derelict Star.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (€9.99 | -75%)

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Download

With the third entry on the horizon, it’s time to champion the Final Fantasy VII remakes. And although we’ve chosen the first because it’s at an unbeatable price, the second isn’t much more expensive: just €5 more. That’s why, now that we’re barely six months away from its third and final entry (as far as we know: there’s always room for one more DLC), it’s the perfect time not just to buy them, but to play them. Because if you don’t catch up now, when?

Marathon (€23.99 | 40% off)

Marathon Download

It hasn’t been the huge success they were expecting at Sony or Bungie, but it’s very far from being the disaster some people say it is. Marathon is a fascinating game with a very passionate audience. What’s more, Bungie is determined to smooth out its rough edges by introducing all kinds of modes so they can reach a much broader audience. If it makes you curious, but the price was putting you off, now’s the time to take the plunge: at a much more reasonable price—almost half off—, it’s a good chance to see whether it really was that bad. Or that good.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut (€35.99 | -40%)

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut Download

Speaking of Sony, the latest big first-party game to come to PC and, apparently, one of the last to do so, has had a good bite taken out of its price. Ghost of Tsushima is an evocative game that has its own take on the open world, much more poetic and calm, focusing more on the story and the journey than on exploration and ticking icons off the map. Even though the price is still high, Sony’s first-party games don’t really drop much anymore, so it’s a golden opportunity to buy it if you’re interested. And believe us: it’s worth it.

The live-action adaptation of Naruto won’t be just a movie: it’ll be a whole franchise

The live-action adaptation of Naruto has confirmed it won’t be just one film. There will be at least seven. Because Lionsgate has confirmed that its intention is to adapt the entire manga and, to do that, they’ll need much more room than a single film. To do that, they’ve already confirmed that they’ll have three films to adapt the first half of the movie and another four to adapt Naruto. Shippuden, following a structure similar to that of the Harry Potter films.

Some changes that are going to be controversial

According to various leaks from insider Daniel Ritchman, the film reportedly plans to make some major changes to the story. To start with, it plans to give Sakura a bigger role, giving her more prominence and more power, something Kishimoto himself had already considered. Similarly, Naruto wouldn’t be a lazy student, but rather an excellent student of ninja history. And to avoid love triangles, Naruto wouldn’t have any interest in Sakura, but Sasuke would. These are all changes that might not necessarily sit well with fans. Especially with the current political climate.

With a production planned for 2027 and direction by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, we’ll still have to wait to see how this film series turns out. But what’s certain is that all of this is going to cause a stir.

‘Scream’ can never be fully completed: an actor from the first film believes Melissa Barrera’s firing changed everything

As Hollywood is realizing that in the conflict in Palestine there is clearly a victim and a perpetrator, the awful things that were done to the actors who dared to call it out early on are becoming more noticeable. That’s especially true for Melissa Barrera, whose storyline in Scream 7 was removed completely and they went in a vastly less interesting direction, leaving it unfinished forever.

Do you like unfinished sagas?

Now, Skeet Ulrich, who played one of the two killers in the first Scream, has made it clear that without Barrera his character can never have a coherent ending. In fact, he doesn’t see himself returning to the saga anytime soon because Barrera, who played his daughter, Sam Carpenter, has been erased from continuity: “Without her and Sam Loomis, there is no Billy Loomis”. So yeah, a genocide has ended up causing the end of an entire storyline.

“It was in his head. They had their chance and didn’t complete the three-film arc they told me about“. And it’s a shame, because, as a Scream fan, I can say that it looked incredibly interesting and was going to culminate in an explosive and unexpected way. Maybe in the future he’ll make an unexpected appearance again? You never know in this saga. As long as they act like Scream 7 never happened, everything should be fine.

The other killer from the first film, Matthew Lillard, has already stated that he is openly ashamed to appear in this seventh installment, and rightly so: Barrera’s firing is one of the lowest points in recent Hollywood history, after all. It can be exciting to appear in Scream again, but come on, not at any cost.

This is the inside of the new Apple Watch Series 12

After learning what’s new in the Apple Watch Series 12 and the Ultra 4, we can see what’s under their screens. After doing the same with the AirPods 5, iFixit has taken both models apart and shows us how Apple has reorganized several internal components to get more out of a surprisingly small space.

A bigger battery and simpler connections

The Series 12 has a 1.461 Wh battery, compared with the 1.403 Wh one in the Series 11. In the Ultra 4, the battery is rated at 2.444 Wh, compared with the 2.313 Wh of the Ultra 3. A moderate improvement, yes, but one that helps improve the battery life and charging of these watches. What’s more, Apple has simplified the screen’s internal connection, replacing the previous connector with a snap-on one that makes repairs and battery replacements easier.

The teardown reveals the Taptic Engine, the new sensors and, in general, how enormously compact the whole arrangement is, since every millimeter of interior space is used with precision. We also see the new sensor array, but there’s more.

The Series 12 and the Ultra 4 share the new S11 chip, a key piece for Audio Intelligence and the new health capabilities. Hardware that supports software that keeps adding more and more features to the watch.
