Phoenix Cyclops will arrive imminently in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls

The first details of the first DLC character in the Year 1 Pass for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls have already been announced. As was already announced, this character will be Phoenix Cyclops, voiced by Ray Chase, and he will feature a unique fighting style by combining Cyclops’s optic blasts with the power of the Phoenix Force. Making him a fearsome fighter to watch out for.

Cosmic Cyclops arrives on your console

But who is Phoenix Cyclops? He is a version of Cyclops possessed by the Phoenix, an entity of pure cosmic energy. This happened in X-Men vs. Avengers, between issues 5 and 11, where the Phoenix Force possessed Cyclops, Emma Frost, Namor, Colossus, and Magik, giving them cosmic powers in addition to their own powers, and leading them to pursue a new goal: building a new utopia for mutants, even at the cost of humans. Something the Avengers sought to prevent as the Phoenix Force was succumbing to its dark side.

Because of the brevity of his appearance in the comics, Phoenix Cyclops is a very unusual character choice. Which makes us think that future DLC characters could be just as unusual. But if you want to know all the details about the character, just head to the PlayStation Blog to learn more. Or wait for its release November 2, when you’ll be able to try it for yourself.

James Gunn lashes out at the criticism of Clayface: “who the hell asked for Back to the Future?”

Clayface, the new DCU film based on Batman’s legendary villain, is getting criticism from some fans who think it makes no sense when many popular DC heroes still haven’t received a movie. James Gunn, the man in charge of DC Studios, responded to that bluntly on Threads after being questioned about it.

Not everything has to be as popular as possible

“Who the hell asked for Back to the Future? Casablanca? There’s Something About Mary? Pan’s Labyrinth? Mad Max: Fury Road? Weapons? The Matrix?” the director replied angrily. “Although sometimes it may seem like it, in Hollywood movies aren’t made simply by letting the audience vote on which franchise it wants to see again, even after seeing it countless times“.

While it’s true that Clayface is a niche choice compared to some superheroes who perhaps haven’t had a chance yet, the film is being eagerly awaited by fans. And the character is hardly unknown. Having made his debut in 1940, he has appeared regularly ever since both in the comics and in all kinds of adaptations, so he’ll at least be somewhat familiar to anyone who knows DC. That makes him a very suitable character for an adaptation.

In another response Gunn stated that “sometimes someone —in this case, first Mike Flanagan and then James Watkins and Hossein Amini— gets inspired by a relatively little-known fictional character and builds what, in my opinion, is a very special story around that character. I’d much rather have that inspiration than some screenwriter trying to make money by writing a bland script about a tremendously popular character he has no passion for or connection to“. And for that reason, Clayface will arrive in theaters on October 23.

Resident Evil Requiem’s screenwriter accidentally reveals the plans for its future DLC

That Resident Evil Requiem would get DLC is something we already knew. A couple of months after its release it was announced that the game would have a second DLC, which they surprise-launched for free on May 8 called Leon Must Die, but since then we haven’t learned any more details. We only know that it will continue the game’s main story in some way, building on what we saw in the game. But it seems that now we have a few more details.

A DLC centered on a repentant man

In an interview at Meadowlark Comic Com, Haris Orkin, writer, narrative designer, and novelist, spoke about his work on Requiem. He also talked about what’s still to come in the DLC. “We have a narrative arc for Spencer in Requiem. More or less, you’ll understand it better, and in the DLC you’ll understand it even more. So yes. I probably shouldn’t say that, but oh well,” suggesting that everything will center on this particular villain whose story we thought had already ended.

Given the game’s ending, it’s to be expected that the DLC will take place before the events of the game or in parallel with them. But we’ll have to wait to find out until Capcom decide to reveal this long-awaited DLC, and we at least now have a few new details about it that make us even more excited than before.

Sony plans to integrate anime into PlayStation 5 starting in 2027

At the first Crunchyroll Anime Future Forum, which focused on the future of anime, especially the Crunchyroll platform (which Sony acquired in 2021 for $1.1 billion), there was a surprise no one expected: the appearance of Hideaki Nishino, CEO and president of PlayStation. He was there to announce the integration of anime more fully into PlayStation 5 on the main menu with a “dedicated space,” starting in spring 2027.

PlayStation and Crunchyroll more integrated than ever

According to Nishino, the goal is «to make it easier for the PlayStation community to discover and explore the anime content it enjoys». That doesn’t change the fact that the console already has a dedicated Crunchyroll app that lets you access the service, but the goal is for anime to have a more consistent, front-and-center presence on the console.

The idea behind this change is that “anime and video games have very passionate and closely connected fan communities, and this new experience will bring those worlds even closer together on PS5. Anime and video games have very passionate and closely connected fan communities, and this new experience will bring those worlds even closer together on PS5″. Which is why they wanted to put more emphasis on this connection.

Given that anime has been one of Sony’s biggest growth drivers in the last decade, it’s natural that they want to integrate it into one of their most popular products at present. This strengthens those ties and further boosts two of its most engaged communities.
