No matter how much you’ve seen Tom Cruise lately: his new movie is going to be an epic flop

Is Tom Cruise always a star and does he pull in audiences just by being himself, or has the success of recent years come to him because they were blockbusters? Digger seemed like the film that would settle the question once and for all, but it’s been confirmed to be so strange, so out of place and so uncomfortable for those who’ve already seen it that it’s likely that, far from being a hit, it’ll become one of the biggest flops of 2026.

Tom Cruise, down the hole

Digger has cost so much money that Warner will only make any money if it grosses more than $325-350 million. On its opening weekend, not even the lowest forecasts have reached a number that low: if analysts’ forecasts are right, it’ll open with just $12 million in the United States (behind the week’s other big release, Verity), making it Alejandro González Iñárritu’s second movie in a row to bomb.

And no, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be a hit in the rest of the world or that it can take off afterward either: the first reviews have been terrible and it solidifies a terrible year for Warner, which has struggled to release films that cross $100 million at the box office. In fact, they’ve only turned a profit on Wuthering Heights, Mortal Kombat II and Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. And none of them has been exactly spectacular.

Ultimately, if this meager figure is ultimately confirmed, Warner will be at its lowest point and ready for the merger. This year Supergirl, The Bride!, Practical Magic 2 and The End of Oak Street have cost it about $260 million at the box office. But the worst is still to come if not even Tom Cruise turns things around.

Tesla Model 3 in China now gets a bigger 16-inch screen and V2L

Tesla has updated the Model 3 in China with a new 16-inch center touchscreen and vehicle-to-load support, usually shortened to V2L. So far, Tesla hasn’t said it’ll bring that same setup to US buyers.

For buyers in China, that adds up to two pretty tangible changes: a bigger display than before, plus the ability to run camping gear, small appliances, and other electronics through an adapter. Chinese EV shoppers are paying more attention to features like that, right alongside range, performance, and software.

That matters because Tesla is selling into a market where BYD, Xiaomi, Xpeng, and Zeekr keep refreshing their lineups at a faster clip. A larger 16-inch screen and V2L are the kind of easy-to-see upgrades that help the Model 3 still feel up to date, especially with Gigafactory Shanghai doing so much of the company’s production and export work.

If you’re shopping for a Model 3 in China, this update is worth a closer look. If you’re in the US, though, the lack of a matching announcement from Tesla may be frustrating, even if the company is still rolling changes out one market at a time.

The new hardware is already available on the China-market Tesla Model 3, and Tesla still hasn’t announced the same configuration for US buyers.

Samsung Galaxy Buds On are official: its first clip-on open-ear buds

Samsung says the Galaxy Buds On, its first clip-on Galaxy Buds and the first open-ear model in the lineup, will debut in South Korea on October 27.

They don’t seal off your ear canal. The Galaxy Buds On clip around the ear, which means you can still hear traffic, office chatter , or station announcements while listening. Samsung is also packing in a long list of features: TwinBoost speakers for heavier bass, automatic volume adjustment, Audio Leakage Reduction, Intelligent Clear Call with three mics, a bone-conduction Voice Pickup Unit, machine learning, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform, a Class-D amp, up to 9.5 hours of playback, plus Galaxy-specific extras such as Gemini Live, Quick Voice Memo, live translation tools, and head gestures.

For people who want something more comfortable and less closed-off for workouts, commuting, or long listening stretches, the Galaxy Buds On look like a solid pick. Still, Samsung is walking into a space Shokz, Bose, and Sony already occupy.

Samsung says the Galaxy Buds On will go on sale first in South Korea on October 27 for 299,000 won, or about $220, with a broader release coming later. Right now, the company has only announced a black version, and it still hasn’t confirmed pricing for the US or Europe.

Googlebook OS is official: ChromeOS support runs to 2034

Googlebook OS was announced by Google at Google I/O on May 12, 2026. It’s the long-signaled successor to ChromeOS. But if you own a current Chromebook, the switch isn’t happening overnight. Google says existing Chromebook devices will keep getting ChromeOS updates under the current Auto Update policy through mid-2034. The current 10-year lifecycle promises still stand, and models with support dates beyond 2034 should get a transition path to Googlebook OS.

That’s a big deal if you bought a Chromebook with long-term support in mind, whether it’s for home, school, or work. Google’s message on that point stays the same: existing Chromebook devices will continue getting ChromeOS updates under the current Auto Update policy through mid-2034, the current 10-year lifecycle promises still hold, and models with support dates beyond 2034 should have a path over to Googlebook OS.

Internally, Google says the new platform is called Aluminium OS. It was unveiled at Google I/O on May 12, 2026, and it combines ChromeOS foundations with Android, bringing tighter phone integration, native Android apps, and Gemini features such as Magic Pointer.

If you use a Chromebook all the time, this is something to keep an eye on. Google says many newer Chromebook models should be upgradeable, but it still hasn’t published a full compatibility list or the migration tools.

For schools and businesses, the rollout will move more slowly. Google’s commercial roadmap stretches across several years.

Google says the first core management features are scheduled for the second half of 2027, and the current ChromeOS Enterprise Upgrade and Education Upgrade licenses, along with the existing management tools, will keep working during the transition.

The first devices to get Googlebook OS will be consumer Googlebook models, launching on October 5, 2026.
