Bobby Kotick thinks AI can resurrect Guitar Hero, the rest of the world can’t

Bobby Kotick sees a future in AIs to do what he believes humans can’t do, but the public, industry, and lawmakers see it differently.

The video game is full of memorable villains. Bowser, Ganondorf, Sephirot, Doctor Eggmann or Albert Wesker are names that quickly come to mind to anyone who wants to think of the worst of the worst. Of people who have made our lives miserable, brightening countless afternoons in the process. Unfortunately, in the video game industry there are also villains, much more real, who seem dedicated only to being a caricature of a human being. Among them, our favorite is probably Bobby Kotick.

Born in 1963 in the United States -we cannot give more biographical data because, in fact, he has never wanted to disclose them-, he is the CEO of Activision Blizzard since 2008, and will remain so at least until the purchase of the company by Microsoft is completed. Among many other things, Bobby Kotick is a person who has been accused and investigated for sexual harassment, since under his leadership the working environment of the company has become so toxic that a woman was harassed until she was driven to suicide, and his public statements are so controversial that, not infrequently, his words have significantly lowered the value of the company in the stock market. Bobby Kotick generates fewer problems the less he talks and the more he delegates, but to the frustration of people in his company, he has decided to talk about one of the most fashionable topics today: the use of AI.

During a conference last week Kotick has stated that he thinks AI can play a big role in video game development. Stating that AI “started with the idea of beating games, whether it was Warcraft, or Dota, or Starcraft, or Go, or chess,” he said that it has now evolved into something beyond that, into language learning models, but that it has always been a technology closely associated with video games. Thus, he believes that the use of AI “will allow us to do things that we have not been able to do in a long time”. And what’s his example? Resurrecting the Guitar Hero franchise.

Exactly how he would do that is something he hasn’t explained in terms intelligible to anyone other than Bobby Kotick. Claiming that “I’ve always had an idea of what a new Guitar Hero product could be” thanks to AIs, everything he’s said about it is a concatenation of sentences that barely make any sense on their own, much less when they try to conjure up some kind of idea. If we have to guess what he might have in mind, we can assume he means that the AI could create inputs from any song players input, without the need for programmers to create the patterns for each particular track, but since he hasn’t clarified anything at all, we don’t know what exactly he’s referring to.

What we do know is that Blizzard has patented a technology that would serve for an AI to create visual content by feeding in designs created by the company’s artists. Something that some former employees of the company have harshly criticized and that Blizzard’s own president has defended, arguing that it will be used to allow artists to focus exclusively on the valuable tasks of their production. But the problem is the same as always. If technology allows them to replace their employees, what prevents them from doing so?

If China serves as an example, its own customers. Gamers. Because recently, some of the world’s largest video game companies such as Tencent, NetEase and miHoYo decided to try to streamline their production process by using AI-generated art in their video games. This has led to fierce criticism from Chinese gamers, criticizing these publishers for creating “digital carcasses”, even leading the Chinese government to consider creating a new law requiring companies to specify whether any kind of AI has been created to create their content. Something that could deal a severe blow to anyone wanting to use AI-generated content, given the stiff opposition it generates among the public.

That’s why Bobby Kotick can play innocent and hide behind Mike Ybarra, but the reality is that it’s hard not to see that behind his passionate, if rather incoherent, defense of AIs is business as usual: a way to generate more money at the expense of his employees and consumers. That’s why we can only define him as a villain. Even as our favorite villain. Because no other villain is so transparently diabolical in the video game industry. Nor does anyone seem to have it so easy to get away with it as Bobby Kotick.

Delay Turns into Opportunity: Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s Setback Could Lead to a Better Game!

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and although it sounds strange, this can be good news when we are at a time when so many games are broken.

It’s financial results time, which means we can find out more about what’s going on behind the scenes at game studios. One of the latest to release its results has been Electronic Arts, which has allowed us to know which games they plan to release before March 31, 2024, although the most interesting thing has been to discover which games are not going to be released before that date. Because among the games that will be released in the coming months, there are two big absentees: skate and Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. And although it may sound strange, it may be good news that BioWare’s new game is delayed.

Dragon Age II DOWNLOAD

Although it may sound strange, it may turn out to be good news considering the state in which high-profile video games are coming out in the last few months. Redfall, The Last of Us Part 1 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the latter also from EA, were highly anticipated releases that have been launched with very serious performance and optimization issues that have meant they could not be enjoyed optimally on either PC or consoles at launch. Requiring several more months of baking until they were really finished, these games would have benefited from a delay that would have allowed them to be released in full.

Anyway, this is not something new. We have to remember that Cyberpunk 2077 came out in 2020 and Pokémon Scarlet and Purple came out last year, two equally highly anticipated games that, likewise, didn’t deliver anywhere near the experience gamers expected from them. For that very reason, the delay of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf may turn out to be a blessing hidden in an upset.

In March of this year it was said that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf could be completed from start to finish and that all that was left was to test the gameplay mechanics and bring visual fidelity to its visual form. If so, why is it necessary to wait so long? To polish. To polish a lot. If that’s the reason for it taking longer to come out, that it’s not another Redfall, another The Last of Us Part 1 or another Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, this could be great news that we didn’t know we wanted. Because it’s better for a game to be delayed and we can enjoy it from the first minute than for it to come out broken and we have to wait anyway that they fixed it on the date it would have come out if they had delayed it.

From Tired to Trending: Ben Affleck’s New Video Breaks the Internet

Ben Affleck is a tired man and the Internet loves him for it. Now he offers us his fatigue again, this time in the form of slamming the door to JLo.

Ben Affleck is the real Batman and he’s tired of the paparazzi, life and everything in general. That’s something he has shown us more than once thanks to photos and videos that have gone viral to become memes in their own right, although we’ve never seen him so fed up as in this video with Jénifer López that already has more than fifteen million views.

In the video we see Ben Affleck opening the car door for his wife, JLo, and then automatically slamming the door three blocks away. Whether it was because he was fed up with the paparazzi, because he had an argument with his partner or because he had had a bad day, this has had an immediate reaction on the Internet, which has launched an analysis of the video as if it were the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Neither her body language nor her attitude nor the photos prior to the events have not stopped being analyzed in these days to try to draw a conclusion of what could have happened.

Whatever has happened, Ben Affleck – who premieres on Prime Video his new movie, Air, about the development of the sneakers that would end up popularizing Michael Jordan – continues to generate interest and to cement his image of a tired man. An image that leaves no one indifferent, since it seems that the entire Internet has an opinion about a man who is increasingly clear that the only thing he wants is to be left alone.

Tori Spelling: From Beverly Hills to ‘Mask Singer’ Phenomenon – Meet the Harlequin!

Tori Spelling has turned out to be Harlequin. And if you think you don’t know Tori Spelling, we’ll prove you wrong!

Mask Singer is back and in its first program we have already had two unmasked masks. The first one was Faraona, behind which Arantxa Sánchez Vicario was hiding, and the second mask of the night to fall was Arlequín. Being someone who spoke English, it was obvious that it had to be an international celebrity, but who was it? Ana Obregón bet on Melanie Griffith, Javier Calvo on Neve Campbell and Mónica Naranjo on Gwyneth Paltrow, but the one who got it right was Javier Ambrossi. The one who was under the mask was none other than Tori Spelling.

For those who don’t know her, Tori Spelling is an actress of international fame thanks to her roles in TV series of the 90s such as Saved by the Bell, Vacation at Sea and, particularly, Sensation of Living, where she played the role of Donna. Since then her career has been defined by her appearance in different reality shows and low-budget films, particularly highlighting her passage through different editions of Mask Singer. Before this appearance she appeared, although only as a guest, in Mask Singer Australia, playing Poodle, and in Mask Singer France, playing La Gata.

On the show she stated that she did this for her children, who are big fans of the show, even though she is afraid to sing. Something that no one would say, since she co-starred in 2012 in the direct-to-TV musical film The Mistle-Tones, where she played Marci, the leader of a Christmas-themed pop group. Something that makes it even more charming and surprising that she didn’t make it past this first day without being unmasked, making us wonder what else the new edition of this popular show has in store for us.

Valeria and A Perfect Story Return: Third Season Premiere Date Revealed

Elisabet Benavent is having a dream idyll with Netflix, as shown by the fact that the third season of Valeria and her new miniseries, A Perfect Story, are already dated.

Everything seems to be going well for Elisabet Benavent. The Valencian writer has just published her latest book, Cómo (no) escribí nuestra historia, and she is also going to see how her film projects continue to materialize with her biggest ally in this field, Netflix. Because the company has already shared the dates for the premiere of the third season of its successful series Valeria and the premiere of the miniseries A Perfect Story, based on the novel of the same name.

Netflix DOWNLOAD

The third season of Valeria premieres on June 2, where the protagonist, the Valeria that gives the series its name, has achieved all her goals: she is finally a successful writer and has finally managed to have a relaxed relationship with Victor. None of this prevents the future from seeming full of uncertainties, which she will only manage to overcome thanks to the help of her friends Carmen, Lola and Nerea. Something that follows the spirit of the two previous seasons, which were not exempt from criticism, among other criticisms, for being considered very far from the original content of the novels.

For its part, A Perfect Story will premiere on July 28. In this story, Margot, the heiress of an important heiress empire, will meet David, who subsists on three jobs and sleeping on the couch with his best friends, coming to the conclusion that they are the only two capable of helping each other to recover their ex-partners. A novel that was a great bestseller and is highly anticipated among all the people who follow the work of the Valencian writer.

Jack Ryan’s Final Season Premiere Date Announced by Prime Video

Jack Ryan returns with his fourth and final season to Prime Video, now with a final date and the promise of the same fast-paced action as always.

Jack Ryan is back. After the conclusion of its third season on Prime Video last December 21, fans had been waiting for news about the date of the fourth and final season of the adventures of this CIA analyst played by John Krasinski. Now, among other news, we have a concrete date. The final season of Jack Ryan will begin airing on June 30 on Prime Video, with two episodes available every Friday, concluding on July 14.

Amazon Prime Video DOWNLOAD

For those who don’t know it, the series follows the adventures of Jack Ryan, a CIA analyst who has no problem doing whatever it takes to get to the bottom of any problem in order to protect his country. Focusing each season on a different conspiracy, with the first focusing on the war on terror, the second on a political war in Venezuela, and the third on a bizarre plot to bring back the former Soviet Union, from this fourth season we only know that Jack Ryan, now as deputy director of the CIA, will have to expose the internal corruption of his own agency. Exposing the country’s own weaknesses in the process.

Although we don’t know how the series will end, we do know that this won’t be the last time we’ll see Jack Ryan on our screens. Krasinski is the fifth actor to play Tom Clancy’s famous character – who made his first appearance in the novel The Hunt for Red October, published in 1984 – and it’s doubtful that he’ll be the last. So, although the series has already headed into its final stretch, his fans have nothing to fear: Jack Ryan lives on in his dozens of novels to be adapted.

The Cosmic Future: A Look at Possible ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Spinoffs

Guardians of the Galaxy is over for now, but what other spinoffs are likely to be made?

While it’s true that the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy brings to a close for the time being the adventures of the galaxy’s most heartfelt baddies, that doesn’t mean the Guardians are finished. The galaxy is full of dangers and threats that, let’s face it, even with the Fantastic Four on the horizon and the constant rumors of the X-Men to come won’t be enough to keep them at bay. The galaxy needs its guardians and we see no way Marvel Studios is going to let their biggest defenders go, not when they’re the only ones that seem to keep working for them exactly as they expect.

Disney+ SUBSCRIBE

That’s why, now without James Gunn, we have to think about other Guardians of the Galaxy. In the possibilities for both the group and its characters to appear in their own films to extend their legacy. In addition to their box office success. That’s why it’s important to stress that from here on out it’s all lucubrations of what could be, but also that this article has the occasional spoiler that anyone who hasn’t seen the third installment of the saga might not want to know about. That said, let’s dive into the different possibilities offered by our favorite heroes on this side of the galaxy, but beyond this side of the ozone layer.

The new Guardians of the Galaxy

While it’s true that the last film ends with the Guardians parting ways, with Rocket remaining as the new leader of the group, that doesn’t mean they cease to exist. In the mid-credits scene we are shown the new members of the Guardians, which in addition to Rocket and an adult Groot, also include Cosmo, Kraglin, Adam Warlock, Phyla-Vell and Warlock’s pet, Blurp. Even obviating that Blurp deserves his own movie, animated series, toy line and successful run for president of the United States, the movie itself already invites us to believe that therein lies the future of the Guardians. They appear in a mid-credits scene. They have a new mission. There is a mix of new and old faces. There’s even an adorable mascot. They have an easy time moving on.

The problem is the one they had before. How to continue after James Gunn? Comparisons are odious, but it’s Guardians of the Galaxy. They are going to be compared. Finding a director with as much personality as Gunn will prove difficult, and while it’s possible to conceive of this lineup of Guardians as even more successful and charismatic than the last, it’s hard to conceive of what director can work right now with Marvel Studios to live up to what Gunn did with the previous iteration of the group.

A very legal Mantis

Although she has been gaining dramatic weight, Mantis is not the most developed character among the Guardians in the films. Based on being an empath who does not understand the others and an expert fighter, but who is not at the level of the others, she remains halfway between the comic role that is sought to give her in the film and the role of advisor that she has in the comics. On the other hand, considering that in the comics she originally started out as a racist Asian stereotype and only later became a sort of mediator between all the other characters in the group, it is to be welcomed that Gunn decided to make abrupt changes to the character.

The problem is that, if as Pom Klementieff, actress who plays Mantis, says, no one can write Mantis the way Gunn does, it’s because it feels like the character is still missing something to finish having a personality of her own beyond the two distinctive traits she has. But therein lies the potential for a spinoff. With the third installment ending and going on a journey of self-discovery, Marvel Studios has it easy: they should make a series or movie that’s a chick-flick parody. If they’ve ever come close to having their own Bridget Jones or A Very Legal Blonde it’s by taking advantage of Mantis and putting her in a context where she has to learn to relate to other humans who are unwilling to understand her. And that, with her kindness and empathy, she ends up winning them over. A story that perhaps Guardians of the Galaxy fans think is not what they want, but it is exactly what they need.

Gamora and the Devastators

With Gamora there’s not even a question of what they should do. Gamora ends up going back to the Devastators and with them it should continue. This is the safest option to make a series or movie that feels like Guardians of the Galaxy, but has its own style and its own tone. Move away from the humor a bit, which can be provided by the sidekicks in the form of the Devastators being bumblers with funny oneliners, and focus on what the movies have always wanted to show us, but maybe haven’t always known how to show us: that Gamora is a professional assassin, but she’s also a woman with a heart of gold.

In that way, they have their second Mandalorian there. If a rule of the Devastators is that they don’t steal from other Devastators and they don’t traffic in children, that they have to run from other Devastators or have to protect one or more children is the easiest choice to build their own story around. They should make a story about criminals with hearts of gold looking for their place in space, making things better than governments that have abandoned their people. Something that feels like Guardians, but they can take on a more familiar form for Disney+ audiences.

The (new) old Guardians of the Galaxy

The first iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy was a half-hearted success in the comic. Vance Astro, Martinex T’Naga, Captain Charlie-27 and Yondu Udonta were characters that worked in the individual issues they appeared in, but not when they were given a collection of their own. Now, why not give them their own miniseries to see how they work?

The idea here is simple. Nostalgia. Yondu remembers something he’s never told you: the Guardians of the Galaxy existed long before he was born, Yondu being a part of them. Retro-styled, with papier-mâché sets, intergalactic threats in rubber costumes and practical special effects, it could be a series with a lot of charm if embraced from the shamelessness and the concept to be thought of: we’re in Yondu’s memories. Of course in his head it all happened in the most pulp, cheap and flattering way for him that we are able to imagine. And if we start from that premise, going back to ’69 Guardians of the Galaxy sounds like something that could be awesome.

The legendary Star-Lord

Now it’s time to put our feet on the ground. Disney and Marvel Studios take few risks, but they also tend to telegraph their intentions. They have already let us know that the Guardians are still with Rocket, but also, in the post-credits scene, we have learned about Peter Quill. Because the movie ends by telling us, explicitly, that “The legendary Star-Lord will return.”

So it is not bold to say that we can expect Star Lord’s return at one time or another. Chris Pratt is liked within Marvel and is credited with at least part of the franchise’s success, so it would be strange if we didn’t see him again. Especially when the post-credits scene itself tells us so. Whether it will be a movie, a series, or just some sort of special or cameo, remains to be seen. In any case, what does seem clear is that the Guardians of the Galaxy have a long run, if Marvel wants and knows how to exploit them without James Gunn at the controls, either with or without Peter Quill. Only time will tell if we will revisit space with the least heroic group of heroes in the galaxy.

Hasbulla Arrested: What Led to the Social Media Star’s Detainment

Hasbulla is in the news again, this time for being arrested for taking a wedding celebration too far

No one can say that sometimes the party has not gotten out of hand. A celebration, a holiday, or simply a good moment that makes us come to our senses, makes the best of us end up making a negative part flourish for others of which, at the time, we are not aware. Something that has happened to the famous influencer Hasbulla, who has been arrested in his home region, Dagestan, after a wedding celebration got out of hand.

Instagram DOWNLOAD

Invited to a wedding, Hasbulla and his group of friends allegedly committed multiple infractions along with their group of friends while celebrating the wedding. Among these were several illegal traffic maneuvers and, more seriously, the blocking of a road with several cars and furniture elements, in addition to burning tires. For all this, both the influencer and his friends would be arrested.

The influencer – known for his viral videos, his childish appearance due to the achondroplasia he suffers and for his current promotional contract with the UFC – resorted to social networks to apologize for everything that happened. In these he stated that something like this “will not happen again, people, we apologize”.

This all took a surreal turn when the Ministry of Internal Affairs decided to intervene, claiming that this is commonplace in Dagestan, a republic in southwestern Russia that borders Azerbaijan. According to government officials, acts such as blocking public roads, burning rubber, crashing cars into each other or other examples of public incivism are very common and recognized both inside and outside the republic, it’s just that the influencer and his friends went overboard with what they referred to as the “wedding thrills.”

Although they have since been released, this is a good reminder that there are limits and that, even in life’s cathartic moments, you have to know when to stop. Something that, given Hasbulla’s track record, we need to be reminded of more than once in a while.
