Although Ubisoft is best known for its service games, it is also true that in the past they made games that were highly valued by the community. Games that were genuinely loved and sparked interest. One of those games was Beyond Good and Evil. Directed by Michel Ancel, creator of Rayman and director of other great video games, such as Peter Jackson’s King Kong, it is a beloved cult classic by a large part of the players. We have been eager to know about its sequel for a long time.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 was originally announced in 2016, although we wouldn’t see the first full cinematic trailer of the game until E3 2018. Considering that the original game was released in 2003 and that its sequel has been rumored since 2007, it is evident that its development has been, to put it kindly, complicated. Especially because all the news we have had about it since last year are literally a tweet.
The official Twitter account of Beyond Good and Evil 2 has confirmed that, despite its absence from this year’s non-E3, the game is still in development. They did something similar last year, but that doesn’t make fans breathe easier, wondering what’s happening behind the scenes. It’s been six years since we last saw anything from the game, after all.
This is accompanied by the release of a remastered version of the game today, June 25th. Named Beyond Good and Evil Remastered, it is available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC. In addition, this commemorative version of the 20th anniversary of the, we assume, franchise, has a quite striking curiosity: when it was announced, one of its main claims was the fact that it would include an extra mission that would link to the story of Beyond Good and Evil 2.
We have no concrete reason to say that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is not yet in development, especially when the official Twitter account says it is, but the lack of information is concerning. Especially given the amount of time they have been working. Either way, it is evident that something is happening behind the scenes and sooner or later we will know. And whatever it is, let’s hope that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is as brilliant and inspiring as its first part.
