CD PROJEKT RED has announced the release of an immersive audio package created in collaboration with Embody for Cyberpunk 2077. According to the developer on their official blog, this new audio software, called “Immerse”, promises to significantly enhance the sounds of Night City, offering an unprecedented gaming experience.
The program introduces in Cyberpunk 2077 a technology called “Head Related Transfer Function” (HRTF), and also incorporates head tracking technology. A combination that ensures the audio faithfully adapts to the user’s virtual environment.
Embody, a company specializing in spatial audio, customizes the sound of the game for each player. By using their technology to model sound in a specific space, the HRTF equation allows a simulation of how sound waves interact with the player’s head and auditory channels. This adjustment, along with head tracking, allows the Immerse package to more accurately map how sound is generated and played in the game.
In the demonstration video, you can see how the game’s sounds dynamically adapt to the direction the player is looking, changing pitch and volume, providing a total immersion sensation in Night City. “After listening to how our game sounds with Immerse, I can’t go back,” says Krzysztof Popiel, lead sound designer of Cyberpunk 2077. The Immerse pack will be available starting June 20th.
