Jet Set Radio is a Sega franchise that, although it was never among the most popular, does have a strong cult following. Those who like it, love it. And it’s not for no reason. It exudes style, glamour, and its gameplay is nothing short of excellent. That’s why, even if it didn’t manage to captivate the general public, it was highly successful in reaching a specific audience. Although now, it looks like it’ll have an opportunity to reach more people.
According to a Twitter user named MSKAZZY69, a remake of the original Jet Set Radio is reportedly in development by Sega. According to him, it would be a remake of the Dreamcast game and wouldn’t be related in any way to the F2P reboot that Sega had already announced in the past. He says that his source is Midori, the influencer who recently deleted his Twitter account.
Along with the tweet, we can see included four images and a video of what appears to be a remake of the original Jet Set Radio, with a less-stylized character design, although with a very similar artistic design. Although it claims it would be a direct remake, the presence of a city map suggests that it could be an open world of some kind.
How legitimate this leak is is something we can’t know. This person has not leaked anything before, and their source cannot confirm or deny what they’ve said. But, if true, a remake of the original Jet Set Radio would be very interesting.
One of the first games to use cell-shaded graphics, Jet Set Radio combines action and platforming in a three dimensional environment, allowing you to use your in-line skates to grind around levels to collect spray paint cans so you can tag (spray signs) around the level.
