Despite being acclaimed for its narrative, combat system, and endearing characters, it did not achieve the commercial success that would have justified a sequel. However, in 2003, an enhanced version was released for GameCube titled Skies of Arcadia Legends, which became a cult classic but has since not seen a return on more recent platforms.

Has a remake of Jet Set Radio been leaked?

Although now, it looks like it’ll have an opportunity to reach more people.

According to a Twitter user named MSKAZZY69, a remake of the original Jet Set Radio is reportedly in development by Sega. According to him, it would be a remake of the Dreamcast game and wouldn’t be related in any way to the F2P reboot that Sega had already announced in the past. He says that his source is Midori, the influencer who recently deleted his Twitter account.

Along with the tweet, we can see included four images and a video of what appears to be a remake of the original Jet Set Radio, with a less-stylized character design, although with a very similar artistic design. Although it claims it would be a direct remake, the presence of a city map suggests that it could be an open world of some kind.

How legitimate this leak is is something we can’t know. This person has not leaked anything before, and their source cannot confirm or deny what they’ve said. But, if true, a remake of the original Jet Set Radio would be very interesting.

Now, the spiritual successor to Jet Set Radio has just received a release date.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is an adventure game developed by Team Reptile and clearly influenced by Jet Set Radio. In the game, players navigate a futuristic city called New Amsterdam using bicycles, inline skates, and skateboards, exploring a total of five neighborhoods that make up the city. To do this, they must utilize an environmental trick system, allowing them to perform combos and move through different buildings and structures.

With its cell-shaded aesthetic and the use of flat colors reminiscent of a comic book, along with a soundtrack composed by Hideki Naganuma, the original composer of Jet Set Radio’s soundtrack, the game’s inspiration from Jet Set Radio is undeniable. Especially when the core mechanics of the game revolve around skating and graffiti, just like the iconic Dreamcast classic.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is set to be released on August 18th for PC and Nintendo Switch. Players who want to enjoy it on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, or Xbox Series X will have to wait a bit longer, but not for too long, as the game will debut on these consoles on September 1st.
