In the video game industry, live events are becoming less and less common. The QuakeCon is an annual convention that has been taking place since 1996, where conferences are held, id Software franchises such as Doom and Quake are promoted, and a massive LAN party is hosted where players are invited to bring their own computers. One of its highlights is the annual Quake tournament. And while it is true that from 2019 to 2022 it was exclusively held online, last year it returned to the Gaylord Texan Convention Center, as it has been doing since 2017.
At QuakeCon, it is normal for them to also talk about the future of id Software franchises. Last year they revealed a new and improved version of Quake 2, made by the people at MachineGames, who are currently working on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. And precisely because of this game, we know that they may present the next installment of the Quake franchise at this event.
The reason is that last January, at a Bethesda event where Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was revealed, the video showed the offices of MachineGames. Among other things, a blank whiteboard with AKE 6 written on it along with the Quake symbol could be clearly seen. An undeniable clue that Quake 6 is being developed by MachineGames.
While some people have wanted to see this as something that slipped through, or even a joke, it doesn’t seem likely that happened here. MachineGames are the people behind the resurrection of the Wolfenstein franchise, as well as three new campaigns for the first and second Quake. While it is true that they are working on the new Indiana Jones game, there is no better and more prepared team to make a new Quake than the MachineGames team. And there is no better time to present it to the world than QuakeCon.
