Creating a specific controller to play through a video game requires special dedication, but that’s what Rudeism has done with Baldur’s Gate 3, and it’s spectacular.
There are many options for playing video games. Most people use controllers, keyboards and mice, or some kind of touch screen. That doesn’t mean there aren’t more peculiar things that can be used to control a video game. That’s why there are even people who are known for doing it. Giving us true delusions.
Rudeism, a streamer named Dylan Beck based in New Zelda, is a specialist in this. Creating and playing all kinds of games with unusual controls, often created by himself, he is one of the world’s leading experts in this field. And now he has decided that his next step was to play Baldur’s Gate 3 with an extremely strange controller. One that is a replica of the Mysterious Artifact.
The Mysterious Artifact is one of the key objects in the game. With us from the very beginning of the game, we will not know its usefulness until the end, in one of the most obvious Chekhov’s guns in video game history. That’s why, due to its importance and unique shape, Rudeism decided to create a controller replicating its particular geometric form to play Baldur’s Gate 3 live.
With buttons, motion sensor, and five months of development, it is a fully functional wireless Xbox controller, only in the shape of a Mystery Artifact. Watching him play with it is absolutely fascinating, as it seems like he is manipulating a magical object, and it shows us exactly why he did it: because it’s cool. And really, is there anything else needed to dedicate five months to an idea?
