‘Redfall’ will still have its farewell even though the studio has closed down completely

Now, finally, it seems that some kind of agreement has been reached and the fourth and final version of the game will be arriving soon, with some new features that had better be polished, because there won’t be any more.

It has been the big buzz in the gaming world in recent weeks, and with good reason: after Xbox closed four Bethesda studios, a good handful of games were left floating in limbo, with no ending or farewell to the community. At least there was the consolation that Tango could say goodbye in their own way with the final patch of ‘Hi-Fi Rush’ and now it is Arkane Austin’s turn to fulfill what was promised in ‘Redfall’ before closing its doors.

We learned last week that Arkane Austin had been preparing the final update of ‘Redfall’ for months when the unfortunate news arrived, and that this included an offline mode that players had been requesting for a long time. Now, finally, it seems that some kind of agreement has been reached and the fourth and final version of the game will be released soon, with some new features that better be polished, because there won’t be any more.

In this case, Arkane Austin has thanked the community for their messages of support and announced that this new update will finally have the ability to pause the game if you play alone, offline mode, and a few other surprises that will be revealed in the coming days. At least, since it’s leaving, it has been able to leave on its own terms. Not everyone has been so lucky in an increasingly cutthroat industry.

If you were one of those who trusted Arkane and bought the edition that would bring, afterwards, two additional heroes through DLC, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that you will never see those heroes. The good news is that at least they will refund the money to your account. Something is something. Oh, and if you want to keep playing, the servers will continue to work… for now. It’s, frankly, a matter of time.

The most painful thing is that Arkane Austin was days away from releasing an update that, among other things, would have allowed the offline mode that players had been asking for for a long time. However, for the famous two additional characters, we would still have to wait a little longer, as they were planned for Halloween. Well. Days of development wasted and money lost in abundance. Just another day in the ever-flourishing video game industry.

‘Redfall’, on release, promised that everyone who bought the deluxe edition would have, among other things, two new heroes through post-launch DLC. Many people trusted and, instead of trying the game on Game Pass, they spent a fortune. One year later, they still haven’t received anything at all.

There are two possibilities: either they are dedicated to fixing issues (which is true, the game is better now than at its launch, although that’s not saying much), or they haven’t even started working on the DLC, which would be concerning twelve months after the promise. The last update we had was in November, where Arkane, their studio, assured that they were still working on the characters and would announce news in 2024.

And here we are. Half a year has passed and there is no news, which has not sat well with those who spent $100. Many were expecting a surprise on May 2nd to celebrate the anniversary, but instead there has been a deafening silence. ‘Redfall’ seems to have died, and those who bet on it have lost all their chips. You’ll see how they trust Bethesda next time. Oh, yes.

Latest Redfall video shows more details on the open-world game

With QuakeCon 2022 come and gone this past weekend, Bethesda had plenty of news about upcoming and old games to share with us. We have our eyes on many exciting titles, one of which is Redfall. To our delight, the studio director of Arkane shared a deep-dive video that showcased an open world that feels similar to Dishonored.

Harvey Smith from Arkane spent some time chatting to the Redfall team in the video. You’ll notice how much they elaborate on characters, skills, environments, weapons, and so much more. The main surprise from Arkane is that they’re venturing into an open-world setting, which isn’t something that they usually do. 

The Redfall team went all out to make a vast environment you can explore and investigate. It’s not simply about moving around and completing quests. You can enter stores and buildings, and you even have the chance to head to rooftops. Of course, there are also the shooting and horror aspects, which will make you jump at several points in the game. 

The best part of the Redfall video was seeing the various skill trees and weapons you can use to slay vampires in the game. There are interesting ways you can recover health and level up your character. It also seems like single- and multiplayer features will work together seamlessly.

Bethesda shared some other news with me over the weekend with exciting news delivered at QuakeCon 2022. If you head to the Microsoft Store and Xbox Games Pass, you’ll see many of Bethesda’s titles now available for free and at discount. Some of the Games Pass games you can now play include Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Quake 4, Wolfenstein 3D, and An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire.
