PlayStation has announced the cutest controller in the world

Sony has decided to release a collector’s edition of the PlayStation 5 controller, which is the most beautiful controller we’ve ever seen.

If there’s one thing we never expected, it’s for Sony to put eggs in Astro Bot’s basket. But here we are. They have announced a full Astro Bot game, which will be released on September 6th, and the first impressions of it are excellent. And it’s no wonder, because all of Team Asobi’s games and Astro Bot games so far have been excellent. But it seems that Sony has also decided to push the idea of turning this cute character into their mascot.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has just announced a limited edition of the Dual Sense, the PlayStation 5 controller, featuring Astro Bot. With the same colors as the character, including a typical blue accent on the buttons, they have included eyes imitating Astro Bot’s on the touchpad. A lovely detail that gives it a lot of personality and shows the care they have put into it.

This controller is now available for pre-order and will be officially released on August 9th. Its official price is €79.99 and can be purchased on the official Sony website, as well as other affiliated stores. It is the perfect accessory for any PlayStation lover. Or for anyone eagerly awaiting that near, yet so far, September 6th.

Astro Bot made it clear: a good game is better than an open world by obligation

The world of video games has always evolved with a “see it to believe it” mentality. If ‘Fortnite’ succeeds with a free online game with seasons, then everyone else tries to do the same. If ‘Skyrim’ achieves incredible success with an open world, even ‘The Legend of Zelda’ tries to follow in its footsteps. However, fortunately, there are always games that resist, those that refuse to force themselves to adapt to market trends if what they want to convey is something different.

Leaving a trace

It is the case of ‘Astro Bot’, the game for PS5 that serves as a sequel to the fantastic ‘Astro’s Playground’ that came installed on the console, a platform game with hundreds of references to the history of Sony’s console that managed to get the most out of the controller (showing everything it was capable of doing and whose witness, of course, no one has taken). And it is that, at first, they considered that this second part would be, of course, an open world.

“In the end, we decided to adopt a level-based approach, because it gave us more control over the variety of the game,” says Nicolas Doucet, the studio director. And thanks to that, because it’s something so unique that it could break if the formula is completely changed. Furthermore, in the same interview, he explains how the alchemy of creating such an innovative platform game works and how it never feels repetitive.

“We don’t stretch any mechanism until it becomes repetitive. We only give enough to make you want more and then move on to something else. We want to be fresh, always surprise the viewer”. ‘Astro bot’ will be released on September 6th and they have already announced that it will be updated with new DLC that will take controller precision to the extreme.
