Microsoft has announced the release date for Gears of War: E-Day. They did so last Sunday, June 7, during the Xbox Games Showcase, where they presented some of their exclusives for both 2026 and 2027.
Positioning the new installment of Gears of War as their next big bet for the fall of 2026, being the grand year-end for Microsoft, they took the opportunity to do a deep dive into the game and show us more about it.
Classic, but modern
Taking us back to the origins of the Locust invasion, the creatures that threaten to wipe out humanity, the game takes place 14 years before the first game, with these creatures decimating humanity in a matter of hours.
The game will tell the story of these first hours of the invasion, with Marcus Fenix dressed casually and adapting to the circumstances as best as he can, trying to prevent the extinction of humanity. Even if, as we know, things will not go well for either humanity or for him personally.
Promising that they have rebuilt from scratch the foundations of the original games, while respecting what made them special, they have abandoned the open world of the latest installments in favor of a more classic gameplay, but with a more modern flavor. With larger environments, greater destructibility, and a faster style, it feels like Gears of War, but much more dynamic and spectacular than ever.
Additionally, we won’t have to wait long to play it. Gears of War: E-Day will be released on October 6, and as promised by the company, it will be console exclusive on Xbox, so it will only be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
