The creators of Stranger Things, Ross and Matt Duffer, have called on fans of the series to optimize their television settings to enjoy the visual experience as it was artistically conceived. In a recent video shared on social media, Ross Duffer emphasized the importance of turning off several settings that can affect image quality, including dynamic contrast, super resolution, and noise reduction.

Among the most compelling recommendations, Duffer warned against using true motion or smooth motion mode, describing it as the main culprit for creating a soap opera-like effect. This mode can distort the aesthetic appearance of the series, so turning it off is essential to preserve the visual intent of the show. “Whatever you do, don’t set anything to ‘vivid’, because it will activate all the worst offenders”, he noted.
Additionally, the creators suggest activating cinema mode, specifically the Dolby Vision-Movie Dark setting, which significantly enhances the visual experience. However, Duffer clarified that further adjustments to the settings are still necessary. The discussion about how televisions should be calibrated becomes relevant, especially after the Netflix platform experienced temporary outages due to the volume of requests following the release of the final season of the series.
This focus on image quality highlights the dedication of the Duffer brothers, with Matt directing three of the four episodes in this first batch, while the other episode was directed by Frank Darabont. Thus, the series aims to provide its audience with an immersive and authentic experience that respects the original vision of its creators.
