After Stranger Things, there were doubts about whether Matt and Ross Duffer would achieve a success of the same caliber as their original series. Still under contract with Netflix, which wants to protect its stars, it seems they still have a lot to offer. And now they also have the approval of one of the most beloved and celebrated writers in the world: Stephen King.
A man with specific tastes
The Boroughs: Rebel Retirement, the new series by the Duffer brothers, has been described as “a true delight” by Stephen King on his Threads account. Emphasizing that “it is really worth it.” Although he has not elaborated further on why he found it so extraordinary, the writer seems to have enjoyed the eight episodes of this series that blends science fiction, fantasy, and adventure.
And it is not the only one. Although it has premiered in a modest third place in Spain, the series has managed to take the top spot among the most-watched series on Netflix worldwide. Whether this is enough to be considered a success or not remains to be seen, because Netflix is not very transparent with the figures of its series. This means that even appearing at the top of the most-watched series does not necessarily imply anything regarding its continuity.
Considering that the series has not yet been renewed for a second season and the reviews have been less than enthusiastic, the future of The Boroughs: Rebel Retirement still seems up in the air. But if the success indicated by Stephen King’s praise and the public’s enthusiasm means anything, Netflix shouldn’t take long to announce that much-anticipated second season. Or explain exactly what has gone wrong.
