Marvin Jones III has been chosen to play Alonzo Thompson “Lonnie” Lincoln, known as Tombstone, in the upcoming movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to premiere on July 31, 2026. The news has been well received by Marvel fans, who have praised the casting decision on social media, calling it “perfect.”
An actor worthy of the character
This is not the first time that Jones III takes on the role of Tombstone; previously, he voiced the character in the successful animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse from 2018, and is expected to reprise his role in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, scheduled for 2027. Rumors suggest that the movie Brand New Day will feature at least three villains, including Tombstone and Mac Gargan, also known as Scorpion, which could indicate an epic showdown on the big screen.
According to reports, outdoor filming will begin in early October in Basingstoke, UK, focusing on a scene involving a prison break. However, the participation of lead actor Tom Holland in these action scenes is uncertain due to a head injury he recently sustained during filming.
Although Sony Pictures and Marvel have not officially confirmed the casting of Jones III, the reputation of the publication Deadline, which broke the news, suggests that it is a reliable statement. Additionally, the actor had previously been linked to the project El Muerto, another Spider-Man universe movie that was canceled in 2024.
The inclusion of Tombstone and other villains promises to add excitement and complexity to the narrative of Brand New Day, a release that anticipates enriching the already extensive pantheon of Spider-Man’s antagonists.
