I don’t know anyone who likes cinema and in the middle of 2026 doesn’t have Letterboxd open and running, the app to rate movies, see what your friends have rated, get ideas, and, why not, read reviews and laugh out loud. It’s so well-known that even movie stars, who should theoretically hate it because it shamelessly dissects any of their projects, have had to end up surrendering to its microphone and their “four favorites” to not be left out of the conversation. I don’t know anyone who likes cinema and in the middle of 2026 doesn’t have Letterboxd, the app to rate movies, see what your friends have rated, get ideas, and, why not, read reviews and laugh out loud. It’s so well-known that even movie stars, who should theoretically hate it because it shamelessly dissects any of their projects, have had to end up surrendering to its microphone and their “four favorites” to stay in the conversation. Fame, how dangerous it always is.
What are your four favorite formats?
Now it’s Tom Holland, who really suits having a secret account on Letterboxd, who has introduced a new feature to its users on the occasion of the release of The Odyssey: “For the first time on Letterboxd, you will be able to search and share the way you experience the movie with a new digital punch card”.
In other words: now you can say the format in which you saw it to give yourself more airs. Oh, you only saw it in a regular cinema with Dolby? If you didn’t see it in IMAX, you haven’t really seen it. “All formats for all your viewings and re-viewings, with every right to show off. Coming soon, so keep your eyes on Letterboxd’s social media”. Nobody asked for this, but as long as it’s not advertising, it’s welcome.
The Odysseywill premiere on July 17 and promises to be the big movie of the summer, or at least that’s how it’s being marketed everywhere. If it ultimately makes less than 1 billion, it will be time to reconsider how Hollywood is selling its movies to an audience that may not be there. Spoiler: it’s not going to happen.
All alarms should go off! Tom Holland is 30 years old! Or do you not remember that in 2021 he made all the headlines by saying “If I keep playing Spider-Man after 30, I’ve done something wrong”? Does this mean it’s the end of the character, after the release of Brand New Day? Well, the truth is no. As so many times throughout his career, our particular Spidey put his foot in his mouth. Spider-pressure! Now, Holland has clarified that statement saying that, haha, water under the bridge: “It’s funny, I saw that quote coming out somewhere a little […]
All alarms should go off! Tom Holland is 30 years old! Or do you not remember that in 2021 he made headlines by saying “If I keep playing Spider-man after 30, I’ve done something wrong”? Does this mean it’s the end of the character, after the release of Brand New Day? Well, the truth is no. As so many times throughout his career, our particular Spidey put his foot in his mouth.
Spider-pressure!
Now, Holland has clarified that statement saying that, haha, let bygones be bygones: “It’s funny, I saw that quote coming out somewhere recently and I stumbled a bit because I was trying to remember what I meant”. As if it wasn’t already quite implicit! “I think what I meant to say is that I would love to have passed the mantle, and I haven’t done it yet”. You won’t do it unless you force Marvel, Tom.
“It’s something we talk about a lot in the studio, so I might have to change the quote to 37. Or maybe I was trying to take advantage of Sony and scare them into thinking I wasn’t going to do Spider-Man 4 now that I had a new deal on the horizon. I don’t know what it could have been. It could have been part of a strategy to instill fear.” Tom Holland: superhero, star, strategist.
In the end, the blood did not reach the river, Holland made Brand New Day and signed a new contract with Sony as it should be. And of course, he has changed his mind: “The truth is that playing Spider-Man has been the joy of my life. Now I think I will do it as long as they keep calling me”. Or until there is a new agreement to sign, of course.
Oh, the tough life of a talented, young, and handsome Hollywood actor. What a nightmare! Poor Tom Holland! He is behind the mask of the world’s most popular superhero, has a relationship with Zendaya, can choose any movie he wants, and on top of that, he gets critical acclaim. Oh, the tough life of a talented, young, and handsome Hollywood actor. What a nightmare! Poor Tom Holland! He is behind the mask of the world’s most popular superhero, has a relationship with Zendaya, can choose any movie he wants, and on top of that, he receives critical acclaim. To make matters worse, the opportunity he had to be a bit of a rogue, as we have now learned, ended up benefiting him! There are people who go through life on easy mode, what the hell.
The Odyssey of Spidey
If you’re Holland, you can afford to pick up the phone and have conversations that no one else would. This was his case when he was cast for The Odyssey and found out that it would delay the filming of the Marvel blockbuster, as he himself acknowledges: “I told Chris, ‘Look, I want to do this movie, but if I’m going to do it, I have to call Sony and have a very uncomfortable conversation’. And that’s exactly what he did.
In their defense, they didn’t take it so badly. “I think one of the reasons Sony moved the shooting date was because Chris has that reputation of ‘This movie is not going to last five more months, and we are not going to lose Tom for two years’. With any other director, it would have been a slightly different conversation.” It is worth noting that the filming of The Odyssey finished 9 days early. That’s called preparation.
Is the height of good luck? The bravado worked out so well that Sony even had time to hire the perfect director, Destin Daniel Cretton: “The Odyssey almost saved Spider-Man because we wouldn’t have had Destin. We wouldn’t have been ready to make the movie when we were ready. We wouldn’t have had these six months to develop the script with Destin and take it to where it is now. And I truly believe that we have made the best version of any Spider-Man movie. So it was a hard pill to swallow for Sony but I think they are very grateful that it happened”. Life goes better when you swing between success and success, definitely. Ah! Both will premiere this summer, so let’s make it even better: Tom Holland’s summer is coming!
In less than a month, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the new Spider-Man movie, will be released. Sony has bet everything this year that it will perform extraordinarily well, and this is evident in the marketing campaign they are running: not only advertising but also all those involved speaking with the press. This has included Tom Holland doing something tremendously unexpected. He has talked about what he expects for what will come after he stops being Spider-Man. Sony has bet everything this year that it will perform extraordinarily well, and this is evident in the marketing campaign they are running: not only advertising but also all those involved speaking with the press.
This has included Tom Holland doing something tremendously unexpected. He has talked about what he hopes for what will come after he stops being Spider-Man.
An actor thinking about the future
In an interview with Empire, Holland talked about how “for whoever is next, whether it’s Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman, or something like that, I would love to be involved in creating the next chapter,” emphasizing that it doesn’t have to be Spider-Man, Peter Parker: it could be another superhero who takes up the mantle.
“I don’t know what it will be like. But I could do what Robert Downey Jr. did for me, then I would feel completely happy to step away.”
Here Holland refers to how he debuted in the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, aligning himself with Tony Stark, who became a mentor to his character in his next film, Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thus creating a relationship between the characters that added more meaning and depth to their integration into the Marvel cinematic universe.
Although many people have wanted to see in Holland’s words a hint of what is to come, there is no official plan regarding him stopping being Spider-Man or that there will be any other associated character introduced to replace him. Therefore, we should read it only as a personal wish, even if, given how the MCU works and the relationship between Sony and Marvel, it is not far-fetched that it could end up happening.
Ten years have passed since the first time Tom Holland put on the Spider-Man mask in Captain America: Civil War, and he has already participated in 7 Marvel movies, including the upcoming Brand New Day, the fourth solo adventure of the Wall-Crawler. However, at 29 years old, he knows he can’t do it forever, and, although it’s hard for us to believe, he is already considering what the next step will be. And he is very clear about it. Climbing to success In fact, he has already warned that not everything lasts forever: “For whoever comes next, whether […]
It has been ten years since Tom Holland first donned the Spider-man mask in Captain America: Civil War, and he has already participated in 7 Marvel movies, including the upcoming Brand New Day, the fourth solo adventure of the Wall-Crawler. However, at 29 years old, he knows he can’t do it forever, and, as hard as it is for us to believe, he is already considering what the next step will be. And he is very clear about it.
Climbing to Success
In fact, he has already warned that not everything lasts forever: “For whoever comes next, whether it’s Miles Morales or Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be part of the presentation of the next chapter. Whatever it is, I don’t know. But if I could do what Robert Downey Jr. did for me, I would be happy swinging into the sunset“. Of course, as if Marvel would let you go that easily, Tom.
In fact, Holland wants more creative control over the character, and the main idea for this new movie is, in fact, his: “My idea when I came to the table was called Spider-Puberty. What if Peter Parker loses control and things are changing? Spider-Puberty was the slogan I gave to the studio, which they immediately rejected. But they liked the core of the idea, and it grew into what we have now in the movie.”
On July 31, we will see if Spidey still has box office strength even without Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield by his side. Although something tells me that, considering the super-events coming in the next few years, they haven’t gone very far…
Tom Holland has shared his excitement for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, describing it as “an absolute masterpiece.” The actor, who plays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, emphasized that the film is “one of a kind” and that, while watching it, he found himself asking questions he hadn’t posed about a movie in a long time, such as “how did they achieve that?” A strong advocate for The Odyssey, Nolan is known for his focus on practical effects rather than CGI, which enhances the authenticity of his productions. A great defender of The Odyssey
Nolan is known for his focus on practical effects instead of CGI, which enhances the authenticity of his productions. Holland expressed his amazement at the technique and planning behind the scenes, indicating that there were moments when he thought certain sequences had to be computer-generated, only to find out that everything was filmed in-camera, further proof of the director’s mastery.
The film, which is a new interpretation of Homer’s work, features a renowned cast that includes Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and Lupita Nyong’o. The production has been extensive, with nearly 2 million feet of footage and filming at sea using “real waves,” highlighting the ambition of the project.
Holland also commented on the impact that Nolan’s hands-on approach can have on the audience, as it offers a fresh alternative to the computer-generated visual effects that dominate many of the big summer releases. The film will premiere in theaters on July 17, and fans are eager to discover the stunning sequences and the elaborate story that Nolan has prepared.
With The Odyssey, Nolan seems to be preparing to continue his cinematic legacy, and undoubtedly, this production promises to be one of the standout releases of the year.

Spider-Man is one of the most beloved characters in American comics. Outside of Batman and Superman, there is probably no other character more recognized, loved, and adored around the globe. And there are plenty of reasons for that. With a rich and deep story, with comics that continue to this day and numerous adaptations for different generations, Marvel has done an excellent job of making him our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
That doesn’t change the fact that neither Marvel nor Disney+ is the big beneficiary of its time in theaters. Not in modern times. Because if you want to watch Spider-Man streaming, we fear it has been more difficult than it should have been for a long time. At least until the man in red decided to get to work and bring us our favorite spider. Because Spider-Man is coming home for Christmas.
Spider-Man arrives with all his movies to streaming
The first movie to arrive in the HBO Max catalog on December 22 is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. An animated film directed by Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman, and Bob Persichetti that surprised both fans and newcomers for several reasons. The first is that this Spider-Man was not Peter Parker, but the more recent Miles Morales. The other is that it took place in a comic book line that has been very popular in recent years: the Spider-Verse.
For the uninitiated, the Spider-Verse is a comic book series published since 2014, featuring Spider-Mans from different universes within the continuity of Marvel comics. This means that there are all kinds of Spider-Man, with all kinds of unique characteristics, something that had been explored previously in Spider-Man comics, but which began to be exploited more methodically starting with this comic book series.
With Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, they wanted to bring this to the big screen with a movie that not only introduced as many different Spider-Men as possible but also featured a striking and very dynamic visual style. And they succeeded. With a vibrant and very unique style, this movie cost 90 million dollars and managed to gross over 384 million dollars, becoming one of the most beloved and appreciated Spider-Man films to date.
So much so that even the critics surrendered at its feet. Winning the Award for Best Animated Feature at the Annie Awards, the Golden Globes, the Critics’ Choice Awards, the BAFTAs, and the Oscars, it was the big winner of 2018 among live-action and animated films. Demonstrating that there were still many things to do with Spider-Man.
Three for the MCU and a much-anticipated return
But Spider-Man doesn’t end here for Christmas. On the 24th, to have the best possible Christmas plans, the three most recent movies of the web-slinger will arrive on the streaming service Max: Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Directed by John Watts, the three films need no introduction. Although they cost 200 million dollars each, they made ten times their budget at the box office and were a tremendous success for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, who made a joint investment in these films to allow Spider-Man to appear in the MCU. With Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Zendaya as MJ, they have already become three films that, for an entire generation, are synonymous with Spider-Man.
The next movie in the franchise, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is scheduled to be released on July 31, 2026, and we only know one concrete detail: this time it will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This also explains why this trilogy is now coming to streaming services.
On December 27, just in time to close the year, we will get the last of the Spider-Man movies we were missing, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. A sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, directed this time by Joaquim dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, and which expands the premise of the original by having Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy travel through the entire Multiverse to save the rest of Spider-Man from a threat that could jeopardize their existence.
Thanks to the success of the previous film, its budget swelled to 150 million dollars, but with the audience already familiar with the movie, they also responded better. Achieving over 690 million dollars at the box office, it was one of the big successes of 2023, being considered by critics as the best animated film of the year and even one of the best films of the year, overall.
With a sequel in development, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, scheduled to be released on June 25, 2027, we will still have to wait to see the continuation of the stories of Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy. But in the meantime, thanks to Max, we have a fantastic way to spend this Christmas.

The combination of these actors with Nolan’s direction suggests that a major cinematic event is being prepared.
Despite some critics expressing that their enthusiasm for Nolan’s work has diminished, the director has managed to make each of his premieres feel like a unique event. With each new footage released, the promise of impactful visual storytelling and innovative direction generates waves of anticipation in the film community. Nolan’s ability to tell complex and emotionally resonant stories seems to be key to creating an adaptation that not only respects the original work, but also reinvents it for the modern audience.
The wait concludes next summer with the premiere of ‘The Odyssey’, a film that could reinforce Nolan’s status as a master of contemporary cinema, bringing to life one of the most significant stories in classical literature. The anticipation surrounding this production is growing, and fans are already starting to debate what unexpected twists this new vision of a timeless myth might offer.

Marvin Jones III has been chosen to play Alonzo Thompson “Lonnie” Lincoln, known as Tombstone, in the upcoming movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to premiere on July 31, 2026. The news has been well received by Marvel fans, who have praised the casting decision on social media, calling it “perfect.”
An actor worthy of the character
This is not the first time that Jones III takes on the role of Tombstone; previously, he voiced the character in the successful animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse from 2018, and is expected to reprise his role in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, scheduled for 2027. Rumors suggest that the movie Brand New Day will feature at least three villains, including Tombstone and Mac Gargan, also known as Scorpion, which could indicate an epic showdown on the big screen.
According to reports, outdoor filming will begin in early October in Basingstoke, UK, focusing on a scene involving a prison break. However, the participation of lead actor Tom Holland in these action scenes is uncertain due to a head injury he recently sustained during filming.
Although Sony Pictures and Marvel have not officially confirmed the casting of Jones III, the reputation of the publication Deadline, which broke the news, suggests that it is a reliable statement. Additionally, the actor had previously been linked to the project El Muerto, another Spider-Man universe movie that was canceled in 2024.
The inclusion of Tombstone and other villains promises to add excitement and complexity to the narrative of Brand New Day, a release that anticipates enriching the already extensive pantheon of Spider-Man’s antagonists.
