Eva Soriano vs. Loreen: Bitter Rivalry Resurfaces as Eurovision Takes Center Stage

The comedian has decided to make one of the biggest mistakes someone can make regarding Eurovision: mess with Loreen, the Swedish singer who already won in 2012 and can now repeat a decade later… If Soriano allows it.

The Eurofans are mad as hell. Usually they get angry with each other, but very occasionally they are able to unite against a common enemy. In this case, Eva Soriano. And is that the comedian has decided to make one of the biggest mistakes anyone can make regarding Eurovision: messing with Loreen, the Swedish singer who already won in 2012 and can repeat now a decade later… If Soriano allows it.

Where does the subject come from?

Okay, let’s put ourselves in situation: February 27, 2023. Eva Soriano goes to ‘The Resistance’ to present her new program, ‘Showriano’, and David Broncano asks her -apart from the canonical questions- with whom she has a bad feeling in the comedy world. She answers that no one in the comedy world, but in the song world there is someone to whom she has made a cross: Loreen.

In a drag gala she was hosting, Loreen, who was going to give a concert at the end, got up in the middle of the gala and started to do her thing for forty minutes, answering to the comedian “It’s my time!” when she told her to get off. “Things have to be said, because we are legitimizing people being assholes,” she commented on the show raising the hatred of people who claimed to have gone to the drag gala for and because of Loreen. According to the hatred, half of Spain went to that gala, person up, person down.

The beef continued for a while until on Yotele the artist said that she sings, basically, when they tell her to sing, she doesn’t control the tempos and had no idea what was going on. “They came and told me ‘Loreen, it’s your turn to perform’ and I said ‘okay, I’m going‘.” But Eva Soriano has decided to make the beef into a meme causing the singer’s fans to be pissed off. Quite a drama, huh.

Nails with cringe

It has been in her own program, ‘Showriano’, on Movistar+, where the comedian, who was close to winning ‘Tu cara me suena’, has dedicated a song tribute to Loreen settling the fight while throwing one last punch. A bit like “Well, yes, but I have the last word”.

Maybe I got fat and I admit it, I said that with Amy Winehouse you shared vice” was the softest thing she threw in the song with the refrain “I hate you Loreen, I hate you Loreen” that has led some Spanish Eurofans to think that it may keep Blanca Paloma away from victory. Let’s see. Neither Eva Soriano is so famous, nor the rest of the world gives a shit, no matter how much Movistar put Swedish subtitles looking for the beef.

“The nails they have put on you give a lot of cringe”, “Your song looks like the Flying Free” or “Don’t play Swedish with me” are some of the jokes with which, in a very obvious way, the comedian made a parody of herself. In Sweden and Spain have not taken it the same way, and anyone would say that tomorrow is going to start the most boring war in the world between the two countries for a drag gala and a song.

The next day, on ‘Cuerpos especiales’, the fantastic morning show on Europa FM, he admitted what anyone with two fingers in front already knew: that it was all a joke. “Maybe I’m not thinking things through this year,” he admitted after being reminded that, if he wins, he can go on the radio show to pull his hair out. We’ll see how the matter goes, but it doesn’t look like Loreen is going to stop her Eurovision performance to say “Ah, yes, Eva Soriano, I’m going to tell you four things”.

A ver.

Where it is held

We all know that last year, even though Chanel came very close, Ukraine won, with the hope that this year they could host the song festival. For whatever reason, Kiev is still not a safe place, so the honor has been passed to the country that came second, that is, United Kingdom with ‘Space man’, by Sam Ryder.

It is true that in Spain we fought it (because nothing else, but for a good party we are even capable of winning this) and Valencia offered to be the place where the edition would be held if Chanel had been second, but finally it will be in the Liverpool Arena, which will have a scenography that, apparently, will launch a message of unity and solidarity through music. Let’s go, the same as every year. We have come here for something else, gentlemen of Liverpool.

Who will win

Let’s get straight to the point, in case you want to give the points and look like the most Eurovisionist of your friends. There are three countries at the top: first Finland, with ‘Cha Cha Cha’ by Käärijä, the singer who decided that he was not going to put a vowel without umlaut. The song is absolutely incredible, the staging cathartic, a marvel.

Then there is Sweden, which has once again bet on Loreen despite her bitter controversy with Eva Soriano, who after winning in 2017 has returned with ‘Tattoo’, a song in English that has lost a little in the staging but is still a great song. Close behind them are Slovenia and France, yes, but the top 3 of great possible winners is closed by Españita. Eaea.

Blanca Paloma

This year has happened a bit like last year at the Benidorm Fest: the most casual audience supported one song (‘Ay mamá’ in 2022, ‘Nochentera’ in 2023) and in the end won another very different one that, over time, has become a Eurovision standard. ‘Eaea’, by Blanca Paloma, mixes a scandalous performance with a song that is out of the ordinary on that European stage. And maybe that’s where it will make its way.

“Oh, come to me, my child, sleep by my side, in my chest there is shelter, little coat for your sorrows”. Okay, you may not be dancing to it this summer in Ibiza, but the staging added to the rise of Rosalía around the world may give us a more or less unexpected victory. Hey, hope is the last thing you lose, right?

How to vote

Honestly, if at this point we have to explain how to vote, it is possible that this guide to be an expert becomes the guide to not screw up in front of the fans. There are two parts, and they have managed to give emotion to both of them so that they are different and at the same time complementary. First, after listening to all the songs, you can call in to choose your favorite (from outside your country, of course).

After watching the repetition of all the songs seven times, it will be time to connect one by one with all the countries so that the jurors can give their votes by scoring from 1 to 12 points their favorite songs. And then, the votes given by telephone can give up to a maximum of 468 points to a single title (something that has never happened before), adding all those obtained by each country. The one who comes first will be the winner and the one who will have the task of organizing the gala in 2024.

Of course, in the semifinals the countries have passed only with the votes of the public, so you never know when this radical change will also be implemented in the ceremony itself.

Where to watch the gala

Surely at the moment of truth you are wondering on which channel you will be able to watch the gala: it will be on La 1 of TVE at 21:00, and it is not that their competition is going to be huge. Antena 3 will counterattack with the horrible ‘Jack Reacher: Never look back’ and Telecinco will make a special of ‘Got talent’ with their best performances. That is to say, no resistance.

In addition, Eurovision will be screened in cinemas, you can watch it in special trains, at events throughout the country, bars, nightclubs … And if you do not have a TV near you, it will also be on YouTube live and on the RTVE website. So, the excuse that you didn’t know when it was not valid: this is the Barça-Madrid of popular music.

How many songs will be played

If you are one of those who have to watch Eurovision by obligation and do not know how many songs you will have to endure until you can change the channel or put on ‘Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’, the answer is 26. Five of the “Big Five” that we are nominated each year (Spain, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom and France), last year’s winner (Ukraine) and the twenty countries that pass in the heats of May 9 and 11. Better sit back and try to enjoy it, it’s going to be a long one.

Who will present

This year there is a little surprise in the presentation of the gala, because Graham Norton will be back on stage. He is a Eurovision classic for the British who has been commentating the gala since 2009 and is held in such high esteem that he even appeared in the parody that Netflix made with Will Ferrell (full, by the way, of great songs). Joining him will be Alesha Dixon, Hannah Waddingham and Julia Sanina.

That’s it, you know it all. Now you just need to choose the best snack, choose the scores wisely, win in the betting pool and, above all, sing, enjoy and endure the desire for another 365 days until Eurovision returns.

Will it be possible to repeat the triumph in this new edition?

Who is Mae Muller, the UK’s Eurovision entrant?

Who is Mae Muller, the new entrant at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest representing the United Kingdom?

Hoping she will follow Sam Ryder’s success last year, the 25-year-old will be performing her track at the competition in May “I Wrote A Song.” Muller stated, “To compete in such a massive music competition is simply brilliant,” describing it as “a dream.”

The BBC followed last year’s selection process, working with a management company to confirm the act making the UK one of the last to reveal its song for 2023.

Perhaps a coincidence, but the last year the UK won Eurovision in 1997 is the same year Muller was born (who knows, maybe it’s a sign)!

Muller enthusiastically shared, “I’m a huge fan of so many of the artists that have found success at Eurovision, from ABBA to Måneskin,”

“Sam Ryder was so amazing last year and proved the UK can be back on the left-hand side of the leaderboard.”

The UK received its most remarkable result in 20 years in last year’s contest when Ryder came second. With that in mind, Muller shared her awareness that she had big shoes to fill.

Muller says, “This is obviously such a level up from anything I’ve ever done, and I can really feel it.” but optimistically confirmed, “You’ve got to go big, and you’ve got to do it right.”

Ryder shared a congratulating Instagram video for Muller’s selection and has already been in touch to share some tips for the Eurovision Contest.

“You’re in for the most wild, inexplicable ride and I’m chuffed for you,” Ryder said. “Have a blast.”

Who is UK’s Eurovision’s 2023 entrant: Mae Muller?

Most of the songs and acts of the 37 competing countries have confirmed who will be going to Liverpool, with the deadline set for 13 March. Typically a Eurovision entrant is chosen in two ways: A national TV show winner selection or an internal selection where someone is selected behind the scenes.

Commonly the winning country will host the following year. Still, due to the circumstances surrounding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the organizers ruled it too dangerous and requested BBC to host instead.

It has been confirmed that May’s event tickets sold out in 90 minutes.

Eurovision Fever: Tickets and Accommodation in Liverpool Sell Out in Record Time

Only 6,000 tickets available across nine Eurovision shows in Liverpool were available when they went on sale today. Within 36 minutes, they were all sold out. Many fans trying to buy tickers encountered error messages much like we saw in The Big Bang Theory with the crowd trying to get into Comic Con.

Eurovision Singing Contest DOWNLOAD

The Eurovision show is set to present dress rehearsals for the semi-finals, with the grand finale taking place on May 13, 2023. With so many fans trying to book tickets, they saw a message that said “Error 503”. Others reported that they saw a notification that they were suspected of being a bot.

It took 36 minutes for the tickets to be completely sold. What’s worse, most of Liverpool’s accommodation is already booked for the show. You need to also keep in mind that the Premiere League is also happening at the moment, so many of the lodgings are also booked for the football games.

To give you some idea of the demand, many users received a message saying they are about 2000th in the queue. Apparently, the real number was much higher than this.

Eurovision tickers sell out almost instantly

Let’s talk about the Eurovision event for a bit. The hosts include Julia Sanina (Ukranian singer), Alesha Dixon (TV star), and Hannah Waddingham (actress). Timur Miroshnychenko will step in as the Ukranian commentator.

The UK act will consist of a cast based on an internal-selection process. While TaP Music and the BBC are remaining silent on who will head the show, there are rumors that it will include the likes of Rina Sawayama, Birdy, and Mimi Webb. Eurovision is set to start on May 8 in Liverpool.
