LocalThunk, excited about the game, used the Bluesky platform to express that “Blue Prince will receive a GOTY nomination at TGA”. In support of his claim, the developer shared screenshots from Metacritic, where the game currently holds the highest rating among 2025 releases, surpassing Split Fiction by one point. Like every year, Keighley has made rounds to answer players’ questions before the event. This year, though, he’s dampening people’s excitement, because something he wanted to emphasize is that we should moderate our expectations about what we’ll see this year. Something which, coming from someone who likes to sell everything he does like it’s a revolution, is a bit concerning.

To begin, he has confirmed several things that we should not expect to see. There will be no new trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, and nothing about Kindgom Hearts 4, The Wolf Among Us 2, or Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. This does not mean that they can’t appear at some other time, in another conference, but they won’t appear at the Summer Game Fest. On the other hand, he has confirmed several things we will see. Palworld will be there talking about its upcoming major update, Atlus will take the stage to talk about Metaphor: ReFantazio, and Capcom will reveal more of Monster Hunter Wilds.

Regarding what we should expect, he’s made clear that the show of big announcements is the Game Awards, and we shouldn’t expect big announcements here. Games will be announced, but they’ll mostly be games that’ll be released before the end of the year. Wanting to focus on game announcements that will come out this year or next, we shouldn’t expect big news about what might appear in 2026 or 2027.

This does not mean, of course, that there won’t be any announcements of this kind. Or that they won’t happen in any of the numerous presentations that will take place in the coming days. That is why, even though Keighley has tried to check expectations, there is life beyond the Summer Game Fest. When asked by an attendee about how many new things we would see that could be labeled as “World Premiere,” the host and organizer of the ceremony assured that while the number would be more or less the same as in other years, he wants to move away from that label. Especially because he believes that, given the very different nature of the things they present, they prefer to treat everything as content about games.

In this same Q&A session, he took the opportunity to give his opinion on the controversy sparked by the nomination of the video game Dave the Diver in the Best Independent Game category. A game with a pixel art aesthetic, but developed by Mintrocket, an internal studio of Nexon, a Korean video game company with over 3,200 employees. This is something Keighley responded to by saying that “indie” can mean different things to different people, and that the awards jury is composed of many different individuals, hence it’s normal not to have a consensus on whether a game qualifies as indie or not.

Now, with E3’s decline, it’s time for Gamescom to step up and potentially become the new major gaming event. Or maybe not. That remains to be seen.

Because Gamescom 2023 is the largest video game trade fair in Europe taking place this very week. It will happen in the beautiful German city of Cologne, at the Koelnmesse Congress Center, where numerous studios have already confirmed their presence and the games they will showcase. What games have been announced that we will see?

Currently, we only know for sure that we will see more about Sonic Superstars, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, Starfield, Tekken 8, Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero, Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade, Song of Nunu: A League of Legends story, Tarisland, and SYNCED. Of course, it’s expected that more games will be revealed during the event.

What are the conferences?

So far, there are four announced conferences. The first one is the Opening Night Live, which will focus on already announced games, on Tuesday, August 22nd at 8:00 PM. On Wednesday, August 23rd at 7:00 PM, we will have Into the Infinite: A Level Infinite Showcase, where we expect to see more about games like Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade or Song of Nunu: A League of Legends story. Also on Wednesday, August 23rd at 8:00 PM, there will be the Future Games Show, featuring 40 titles for PlayStation 5, Xbox, Switch, and PC, including never-before-seen games. And on Tuesday, August 29th, at 6:00 PM, the Panic Games Showcase will take place, where the publisher will give a new look at games like Nour: Play With Your Food and Despelote, along with various unannounced games and collaborations.
