This June marks ten years since the start of ‘Dragon Ball Super’, a work created by Akira Toriyama and continued by his disciple Toyotaro. However, the manga has been on hiatus for over a year, leaving fans eager for news. Although a brief self-contained chapter focusing on the characters Goten and Trunks was released in February 2025, the main storyline remains stalled.

A year of waiting, which is said quickly

Amid this uncertainty, Toyotaro has celebrated the anniversary with a prominent illustration featuring Goku Ultra Instinct and Gohan Beast performing a Kamehameha. This image evokes iconic moments from the series, such as the father-son joint attack against Cell, and reaffirms the legacy of the work in the ‘Dragon Ball’ universe. Although we have not yet seen these transformations in the series, the illustration suggests that the author is actively working on the future of the manga.

Recently, a special project related to ‘Dragon Ball Super’ has been announced. However, fans have been disappointed to discover that it is a collectible figure based on the anniversary illustration and not the anticipated return of the anime. This marketing strategy, although frustrating, continues to fuel the expectation surrounding ‘Dragon Ball’.

It is crucial to remember that after Toriyama’s death, a battle for the rights to exploit his work has erupted, which could be influencing the pause of the manga. Nevertheless, there are reasons to keep hope for news. With key events like Anime Expo and San Diego Comic Con approaching, it is possible that announcements about the return of ‘Dragon Ball Super’ in new or renewed formats will be made.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has a new trailer introducing 24 new characters… more or less, because in reality, they are 24 forms of the same 2.

For many people, one of the big news of 2023 was the announcement of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. Being this the Japanese name of the well-known fighting video game franchise Dragon Ball: Budokai Tenkaichi, it is clear what we can expect from this new installment: a lot of different characters, an obscene amount of arenas, and a great fidelity in character designs. Maybe not the deepest combat system, but that’s what Dragon Ball FighterZ is for.

During the past Dragon Ball Games Battle Hours they presented us with the first characters from Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. With the staggering number of 24 characters, they wanted to start off with a bang, offering us the widest possible glimpse. With a trick. Out of those 24, actually, all of them can be divided into two.

As shown in its spectacular trailer, the 24 characters are summarized in 11 versions of Goku and 13 versions of Vegeta. Something that is accompanied by the aforementioned trailer, which serves to show the different versions of each of them, but also a very dynamic and visually striking confrontation between these deadly enemies, eternal friends, and inseparable companions. Something that alleviates, a little, the fact that they have decided to start by showing 24 characters, when in reality there are only two.

The complete list of confirmed characters so far is as follows:

  •     Son Goku (Z – Start)
  •     Son Goku (Z – Intermediate)
  •     Son Goku (Z – Intermediate), Super Saiyan
  •     Son Goku (Z – Final)
  •     Son Goku (Z – Final), Super Saiyan
  •     Son Goku (Z – Final), Super Saiyan 2
  •     Son Goku (Z – Final), Super Saiyan 3
  •     Son Goku (Super)
  •     Son Goku (Z – Intermediate), Super Saiyan
  •     Son Goku (Super), Super Saiyan God
  •     Son Goku (Super), Super Saiyan Blue
  •     Vegeta (Z – Tracker)
  •     Great Ape Vegeta
  •     Vegeta (Z – Start)
  •     Vegeta (Z – Start), Super Saiyan
  •     Super Vegeta
  •     Vegeta (Z – Final)
  •     Vegeta (Z – Final), Super Saiyan
  •     Vegeta (Z – Final), Super Saiyan 2
  •     Majin Vegeta
  •     Vegeta (Super)
  •     Vegeta (Super), Super Saiyan
  •     Vegeta (Super), Super Saiyan God
  •     Vegeta (Super), Super Saiyan Blue

However, that’s not the only thing we’ve seen. Along with the trailer, they have shown an image that suggests that the complete roster would have over 120 characters. Less than in the last Budokai Tenkaichi, but still an immense roster. We will be able to enjoy it when it is released soon on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X.
