A substantial patch in terms of new content

The 1.56 update will not only focus on the introduction of new cars. Among the main new features are the new race events that are being added to the game, including the Sunday Cup Classic at the Red Bull Ring and the European Sunday Cup 400 in Gran Valley. These events will provide players with fresh content and a renewed opportunity to enjoy competition on the virtual track.

Likewise, the advancements in artificial intelligence by Polyphony Digital are evident with the availability of Gran Turismo Sophy on two new tracks: Monza and Sardegna – road circuit B. This implementation underscores the developers’ commitment to providing not only an authentic driving experience but also a significant challenge through advanced AI.

The update also includes a new Extra Menu No. 44 dedicated to Peugeot for the GT Café and a new design for the Mazda 3 Gr.4. These additions are a clear sign that Gran Turismo 7 continues to evolve and adapt to the demands of its growing fan base. Yoshida mentioned that with rising costs and the scale of major releases, lower-budget games faced an increasingly complicated market. The intellectual properties of Japan Studio, many of which belonged to this AA segment, failed to find a viable space in an environment dominated by large-scale titles. There is still room for AA… ironically, within Sony

Despite the closure, the essence of Japan Studio has endured in Team Asobi, a spin-off that has managed to capture the public’s attention with its successful game Astro Bot, which received the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2024. On the other hand, the closure of Japan Studio allowed Toyama to found his own company, which is currently working on Slitterhead, an anticipated game for 2024. They have just found new cheat codes in the PSP 'Gran Turismo'… 14 years later

This is the case of PSP’s ‘Gran Turismo’, which 14 years after being released on the market has had a couple of cheat codes found that until today remained completely in the dark.

Do you remember the PSP? It’s been ten years since it’s been with us, replaced by the PS Vita and later, by nothing, but it still has fans of games that have since been remastered like ‘God of War: Ghost of Sparta,’ ‘Monster Hunter Portable 3rd,’ ‘Daxter,’ or ‘Gran Turismo.’ This particular title sold nearly five million copies worldwide, became a technical showcase compared to the Nintendo DS back then, and captivated fans of the series. Or rather, it continues to captivate them even today.

Some video games hold secrets that may never be revealed in our lifetime, like the box under the Eiffel Tower in ‘Trials Evolution.’ Its contents might only be known, perhaps, in 2113, but most secrets eventually come to light, sooner or later. Such is the case with ‘Gran Turismo’ for PSP, where 14 years after its release, a couple of cheat codes were discovered that had remained completely in the dark until today.

User pez2k revealed on Reddit that they were inspecting the game’s scripts using a tool developed by another ‘Gran Turismo’ fan out of sheer curiosity. They came across two lists of buttons in one of the main scripts and decided to input them on the main screen to see what would happen: one unlocked and added all cars to your collection, while the other granted 99 million in credits. Not too shabby.

If you have the game handy and want to try, be careful, because it’s not that easy: to unlock the entire game, first, you have to hold Start, Select, and R simultaneously. Then input Up, Right, Left, Left, Square, Up, Right, Right, Up, Triangle, Right, and Up. For the credits, after holding Start, Select, and L, press Down, Square, Down, Left, Right, Triangle, Right, Square, Up, Down, Up, and Down.

I bet the game creators are now saying, “Oh, we forgot to delete those.” Quite a wonder, no doubt. What’s next?

Is Gran Turismo finally coming to Windows PCs?

Gran Turismo is arguably one of the best-known and most compelling real-life inspired racing games. However, the game has long been a PlayStation-exclusive title, leaving PC gamers to either invest in consoles or turn to far less polished and exciting titles. That may all be about to change as Polyphony is looking into porting its resident high-stakes racer to Windows PCs. 

In a recent interview with GTPlanet, the creator of the Gran Turismo series, Kazunori Yamauchi, expanded on this statement. Speaking on the possibility of a Gran Turismo PC port, Yamauchi said: ‘Gran Turismo is a very finely tuned title. It’s not a very easy subject, but of course, we are looking into it and considering it.’ 

The ‘finely-tuned title’ and its potential port to PC, as Yamauchi put it, is a topic of contention for developers due to the different constraints that PC-based games face. One of the issues that Yamauchi is most concerned with is whether the devs will be able to achieve a 60 frame-per-second running speed in 4K resolution across all platforms. However, with the current availability of GPUs and CPUs, we’d expect that a PC port of Gran Turismo would result in even more advanced graphics and performance. 

Is Gran Turismo finally coming to Windows PCs

Gran Turismo has been running in various iterations for 25 glorious years. During that time, the game has never been playable anywhere other than on PlayStation. Even the latest installment, Gran Turismo 7, was released for PlayStation 4 and PS5 exclusively. Even the previous iteration, Gran Turismo 6, was announced as an exclusive title for PS4. However, should the game be ported to PC, it wouldn’t be the first time that a previously PlayStation-exclusive title would execute an expansion into the PC market.

We’ve seen other gaming titles expand their platform suitability in the past, such as God of War, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves, and Horizon Zero Dawn. This trend isn’t even lost on Sony, the company behind the PlayStation consoles. During an investor presentation held in May of this year, Jim Ryan, the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated that the company expects that within the next five years, half of its offerings will be available on either PC or Mobile, as well as on the next-gen PlayStation 5 console. 

We don’t yet know conclusively whether we’ll get a PC port of Gran Turismo, but thanks to Yamauchi, we at least know that the company behind the incredible realistic racing simulator is considering it at length.
