Almost a decade ago, Netflix began its journey in cinema with Beasts of No Nation, and since then it has diversified its film catalog. However, one of the most anticipated projects, the adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia, announced in 2018, has been on hold until now, but it finally seems to be taking shape. The iconic literary saga by C.S. Lewis is directed by Greta Gerwig, recently known for her success with Barbie.
Not one, but… eight movies
The first film of this new adaptation is scheduled for its release in IMAX theaters on November 26, 2026, before becoming available on Netflix on December 25 of the same year. According to reports, it will be screened in approximately 1,000 theaters in 90 countries, marking a significant step in the platform’s distribution strategy.
The filming of this highly anticipated movie began in August 2023 at Shepperton Studios in the United Kingdom. Although Netflix has not officially confirmed its full cast, the presence of young actors David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell has been confirmed. Additionally, there are rumors that renowned figures such as Emma Mackey, Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, and Meryl Streep could join the project.
Netflix’s ambition does not stop at a single movie, as the platform has raised the possibility of producing a total of eight films based on the saga. This number is remarkable considering that Lewis’s original work consists of only seven books. This has led to speculation about the narrative approach that the adaptation will take and whether some of the stories will be reinterpreted or extended on the big screen.
