One of the longest works in the series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, had so much content that the screenwriters faced the challenge of condensing its plot to fit the movie’s time limit. On the other hand, the fourth film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, was also considered a strong candidate to be split into two parts. However, director Mike Newell strongly opposed this idea, arguing that it was feasible to address the complexity of the plot in a single film. According to Newell, making two movies would have been embarrassing” and his approach allowed viewers to experience the development of significant events, including the tragic resurrection of Voldemort.
The discussion surrounding the possibility of splitting films in the series highlights how creative decisions can be shaped by the directors’ vision versus the commercial intentions of the studios.
