It was clear from its conception that a game based on Harry Potter was going to be a huge success. And indeed, since its release in 2023, Hogwarts Legacy has established itself as a global phenomenon, selling more than 34 million units and revitalizing interest in the magical universe of Harry Potter. Warner Bros. has stated that the sequel to the successful RPG is one of its main priorities, although its development is still in the early stages. The company is aware that there is a high demand for new content from the gaming community, who eagerly await a future installment that improves upon what was presented in the first part.
Despite the success of Hogwarts Legacy, there is uncertainty within the Warner Bros. management about the potential performance of the sequel. The development of the first installment was complex, requiring the collaboration of multiple teams, both internal and external. This experience has led many executives to have doubts about whether the previous success can be replicated. An example of this concern is the recent disappointment faced by another title based on the Harry Potter universe, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, which failed to meet the expected commercial expectations.
Additionally, the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy plans to connect its narrative with the Harry Potter series that will be developed on HBO Max. This could potentially increase fan interest and create a closer link between the different entertainment media related to the franchise. However, executives are realistic in acknowledging that not all Harry Potter-related products have been successful, so significant challenges lie ahead in the path to creating this sequel.
In summary, while the studios work on more content for the RPG and its sequel, the community is waiting for news that will confirm whether the interest in this magical world will endure over time.

The magical world of Harry Potter is not going through its best moment. This is no secret: JK Rowling has earned the dislike of a large part of the fandom for her transphobic ideas, younger generations tend to laugh at millennials who are too much fans of the saga, and its popularity has declined so much that even sagas that were supposed to be immortal like Fantastic Beasts have ended through the back door. However, Warner is sure that they still have a diamond in their hands that just needs polishing. And they think they know how.
And there are two projects in the future prepared to resurrect the saga (or take it to the pits eternally). On one hand, the Max reboot in the form of a series, which will premiere throughout 2026 and about which we still know very -very- little. On the other hand, the sequel to the only thing that has really worked for the Wizarding World lately: Hogwarts Legacy 2 is already in preparation and they have not wanted to take any risks.
That is why they have already announced that the narratives of both products will be interconnected and their creators are coordinating to create, so to speak, a Marvel Universe but for Hogwarts. David Haddad, the head of games at Warner, has stated that “our data indicates that there are no major distinctions between the young and adult versions of a fan. They are deep fans of Harry Potter, and we try to build authentic experiences to delight them.” Which is the same as saying nothing, but at least it seems they are interested in preserving the “experience.”
However, the most critical fans can rest assured with all this, because JK Rowling is out of everything related to the saga beyond the books, although they still consult her: “If we are going to go further in a conversation about the canon, we want to make sure everyone is comfortable with what we do.” We will have to see if Hogwarts Legacy 2 and Max’s Harry Potter share, in the end, something more than just a couple of background references… because it doesn’t seem like Rowling will let them go much further.

The first hint about this new version appeared in an article by Bloomberg, which briefly mentioned that some members of Rocksteady, the studio behind Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, were collaborating on the development of this update for Hogwarts Legacy.
The game was initially released in February 2023 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Subsequently, versions for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch were released in stages due to the complexity of adapting it to the previous generation consoles.
Hogwarts Legacy has been a resounding commercial success, with over 24 million copies sold by January 2024. Even in August 2024, it remained the sixth best-selling game in the United States, while Suicide Squad, another title from WB Games, failed miserably.
As much as it sometimes gets reduced to a pigment of millennial pop culture, the truth is that Harry Potter is an essential part of understanding modern young adult literature, whether it acts as a catalyst against JK Rowling (and her despicable transphobic statements on social media) or simply as an attempt to ride the wave. As much as it is sometimes reduced to a pigment of millennial pop culture, the truth is that Harry Potter is an essential part of understanding modern young adult literature, whether it acts as a catalyst against JK Rowling (and her despicable transphobic statements on social media) or simply as an attempt to capitalize on its popularity.
Over the years, Hogwarts and its entire magical universe have had a thousand and one references and parodies, yes, but also incredible plagiarisms and fake continuations that, somehow, have made it to the shelves before or after the writer’s lawyers caught up with them. Ready to enter the Magical World of the tacky, the Hogwarts of the sad, the bargain magic, and the cardboard wands? Welcome to the 6 most incredible plagiarisms of Harry Potter!!
Tanya Grotter is the Russian answer to Harry Potter, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t share with him, at least in the first of her books, most of her story. Tanya’s parents were killed by an evil sorcerer, Chuma-del-Tort, she has a strange scar on her nose and lives with her second cousins (who treat her terribly) until she is invited to go to Tibidox, a school for wizards that… Well, you get the idea.
JK Rowling and Warner did not manage to stop its publication in Russia, but they prohibited its translation from being published in the rest of the world. The author, Dmitri Yemets, achieved great success by introducing Russian fantasy into the saga. Starting from the second book, Tanya Grotter experiences adventures completely different from those of the young wizard. However, in the third book, Tanya Grotter and the Golden Leech, she ends up facing, in the world dragon ball tournament (yes), a certain “Hurry Pooper.” In total, 14 books and 13 spin-offs of her male counterpart, Methodius Buslaev, are part of the series. Quite something.
Landon Snow
Have you ever read Harry Potter and thought, “Yes, this needs Christianity”? Well, let me introduce you to Landon Snow, written by RK Mortenson, a Lutheran church minister who didn’t miss the chance to reference the young wizard in every chapter of Landon Snow… but without the sorcery. It’s the market’s response to all those parents who were terrified that their children would somehow become addicted to black magic by reading JK Rowling. Between 2005 and 2007, Mortenson released 5 Snow books and was never heard from again.
Billy Owens
In Canada, they decided that they also wanted their own Harry Potter in cinema, but without spending an extra dollar. This is how The Mystical Adventures of Billy Owens was born, which had no shame, right from the poster, in indicating that it was more or less the same (an inexperienced eleven-year-old wizard who just bought his first wand to face a dragon with the help of, for some reason, Loki), only without money even for catering.
For some reason, it had a sequel, Billy Owens and the Secret of the Runes, where Billy, along with his friends and the help of his magical teacher, Mr. Thurgood, had to defeat Professor Mould. Some said this was better than the first part, but in the same review, one could read “instead of being worse than 99.9% of any movie, this is only worse than 99%.” For whatever reason, no one wanted to see poor Billy Owens again.
Chinese Harry Potter
In China, the laws go their own way, and it matters little or nothing if you are blatantly plagiarizing intellectual property. There are fake sequels of The Lord of the Rings or Little Women, among many other sagas… And, of course, there was a flood of Harry Potter novels. Just like that, without changing the name. In Shanghai, you can easily find titles like Harry Potter and the Porcelain Doll, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (yes), or Harry Potter and the Chinese Empire. Do you think it ends here? Of course not.
Harry Potter and the Young Heroes, Rich Dad, Poor Dad and Harry Potter, Harry Potter and the Leopard that Became a Dragon, Harry Potter and the Golden Armor, Harry Potter and the Crystal Vessel… And we could still go on for paragraphs. Chinese publishers believe that the wizard’s success was such that they were within their rights to give it their own touch so that people in their country could also enjoy it. Obviously, none of these novels have been officially translated, but neither Rowling nor Warner can do anything against their massive distribution within the country.
Trip to India
JK Rowling was taking a long time to publish the fifth book in the series, and fans were getting nervous, so in India, they decided to take matters into their own hands by publishing a fake sequel, Harry Potter in Calcutta. In it, the wizard takes his Nimbus 2000 to travel to the city, invited by a boy named Junto. They both meet several characters from Bengali literature, with the idea that Indian children could identify more with their adventures.
The writer was indeed able to intervene here and remove the book from circulation despite the fact that Bengali children enjoyed it. Perhaps if they had used another name, it would have passed as a parody, but in this case, using her characters violates international copyright laws and it barely touched the shelves. The same happened with an illegal Bengali translation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, with which Rowling wanted to protect her saga. Although Harry Potter in Calcutta is the most well-known, dozens of plagiarism have been stopped before they existed due to this relentless pursuit of plagiarism (something that, on the other hand, makes perfect sense).
Porri Gatter
Actually, Porri Gatter is not as much plagiarism as a parody, but in this case, it works for us. Let’s go to Belarus to see the wizard protagonist of Porri Gatter and the Philosopher of Stone (ahem), in which the hero has a grenade launcher instead of a wand. In fact, Gatter himself is not a sorcerer, but a user of technology in a magical world. It is not, however, the only parody on the market (although it is one of the few to reach four titles).
In fact, only in the United States can we see names like Harry Rotter, Larry Bottem, Barry Trotter, Harry Putter, Hairy Pothead (the protagonist of a marijuana-centered parody), Hairy Potty, Henry Potty, Parry Hotter, Henry Shepherd, Howie Monroe (a dog who attends a school for canine wizards where Voldemort is a cat), Barry Rotter, Harriet Porber (a trans character who tries to annoy Rowling) or Harry Otter.
Do you want more? Harri Proglotter, A boy named Harry and his dog Potter, Harry Cover, Harry Pórrez, Harry Peloteur (a pornographic parody), Larry Bodter, Henri Potier, Heri Kókler, Harry Pouter, Happy Porter, Larry Potter, Harry Potra or, why not, Harry Poker (a Czech parody about child card players). If you are a true fan of the young wizard, you have homework… If you choose to accept it.
‘Hogwarts Legacy‘ is receiving its first major update since its launch last year, but fans are not very happy with what’s coming. The RPG set in the magical world of Harry Potter was one of the most successful video games of last year, so when it was announced that it would receive a free DLC in the summer, expectations were very high.
A few days ago, developer Avalanche Software confirmed that the new update for ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ will be available this week, and it’ll include a photo mode, plus “The Enchanted Shop of Hogsmeade” DLC mission (previously exclusive to PlayStation), as well as new appearances for the mounts that’ll be added, Harry Potter glasses, and new clothing. However, beyond this, the update has left fans quite disappointed.
“Is that it?” wrote a player on Twitter. “All this time and the only thing we’re really going to get is the photo mode and a couple of new outfits?” Another user added, “Is that all? After so much waiting? No NG+. No quidditch. A photo mode that should have been there from the beginning. The Hogsmeade mission that’s already available for PS players. Useless cosmetics. Let me uninstall it as soon as possible”.
A few weeks ago, the team behind ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ tried to manage expectations for the June update, but that hasn’t stopped fans from expressing their discontent. One mode that players were hoping for was the New Game Plus, so the lack of this feature is somewhat strange, especially if the goal of the update is to get people to play ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ again.
According to reports, Nintendo wants to narrow the gap between current consoles and its own, and that includes AAA games being released late or with worse features.
For months it was the buzz of the Internet: ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ didn’t run well on Nintendo Switch, for obvious reasons: the graphics quality was worse, the loading times went up to 50 seconds, and the overall gaming experience couldn’t have been the same in any way. However, along with that general mockery came another assertion: it could be much worse. And that’s the key point.
Shiver Entertainment was in charge of porting not only the ‘Harry Potter’ game to Switch, but also Mortal Kombat 1 and ‘Mortal Kombat 11’, with decent results once again considering the capabilities of the console today. But beyond how well or poorly they do ports of others, why has Nintendo decided to make them an internal studio from now on?
Logic indicates that this is a strategic step towards, of course, Switch 2. Basically, everything that those games left to be desired was not Shiver’s fault, but Nintendo’s own and what it can offer right now. Basically, the fact that ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ is playable is already impressive for the big N. And they need launch games. Now.
But does it make sense to bother acquiring a studio that also does ports for third parties? According to reports, Nintendo wants to reduce the gap between current consoles and their own, and that includes AAA games being released late or with worse features. In a gaming world that, except for a couple of exclusives, will increasingly focus on cross-platform, the Japanese company needs to compete by any means necessary.
Does Nintendo want to break, even a little, its bubble and fully immerse itself in the current gaming landscape? It seems so. For now, the countdown for Switch 2 continues to sound, and rarely has a console brought so much hype with it.
Hogwarts Legacy, the popular open-world RPG based on the magical world of Harry Potter, has sold over 24 million units worldwide. According to the game’s publisher, Warner Bros. Games, as reported by Variety, the title developed by Avalanche Studios was the best-selling video game worldwide in 2023.
“As we approach the first anniversary of Hogwarts Legacy, we wanted to inform our community that the PlayStation exclusive content for Hogwarts Legacy will be available on other platforms by the end of this summer, along with updates and additional features for the game,” reads a tweet from Hogwarts Legacy. “Stay tuned in the coming months for more details on what will come to Hogwarts Legacy this year.”
In February of this year, Hogwarts Legacy was released, the video game that allowed us to explore the magical world of Harry Potter (many years before he existed, though). After its successful debut on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S (which was not without controversy), Avalanche Software’s title was released for PS4 and Xbox One just three months later. But one platform was still missing.
Initially planned for the month of April, the release of Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo Switch was delayed until July 25, with a later additional delay targeting November 14. Now, Nintendo fans can explore the open world of Hogwarts Legacy… Well, more or less.
A few weeks before the release, several screenshots and videos of the Hogwarts Legacy port on Switch emerged, showcasing the good performance of the game on a console with rather outdated technology. With fairly decent quality and stable 30 fps (don’t expect much more from the console), many pointed out that bringing such a massive game to Switch with these results could only be the work of magic.
But, as (sadly) tends to happen in our Muggle world, all magic has an explanation. The YouTube channel SwitchUp found that, in order to bring the open world of Harry Potter to Switch, those in charge of the port had to segment the entire game into separate zones with loading screens. In other words, farewell to the open world.
Additionally, the loading times are not exactly brief. According to SwitchUp’s analysis, every time you want to change zones, you’ll have to wait “between 30 and 50 seconds.” A duration that, as well-known to Bloodborne fans, can test players’ patience and disrupt the immersion of the game, especially in a world where broomstick rides and magical creatures are constant.
This is solely due to performance reasons, of course, but many players who wanted to experience Hogwarts on their portable console may be disappointed by having to wait frequently for the game to load.
Harry Potter fans have a new reason to rejoice. New rumors indicate that the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is currently in development.
Harry Potter fans can breathe easy: everything seems to indicate that the highly successful RPG Hogwarts Legacy will have a sequel. That’s what the latest rumors suggest, at least.
The source of this news is the user MyTimeToShineHello, a well-known profile with a track record of revealing information about movies. As you can imagine, both Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Software have remained silent and have not made any contributions regarding this claim. Additionally, Avalanche recently posted a job listing that did not specify the project being worked on. Is this another possible clue about the “sequel” to Hogwarts Legacy?
The truth is, they have plenty of reasons to continue delving into the famous school of magic and wizardry. Hogwarts Legacy is, to date, the best-selling game of 2023 and has reported revenues of 1.3 billion dollars. Both critics and the public have ended up falling in love with a game that has not been without controversy, partly due to the controversies surrounding its author, J.K. Rowling.
For now, we are still far from even knowing the release timeframe for this supposed sequel. Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO, David Zaslav, has spoken on other occasions about the company’s strong commitment to developing a “perfect” title, even if it takes more time than expected.
Hogwarts Legacy and its Nintendo Switch version
No doubt, we are in a memorable year in the history of video games. Hogwarts Legacy has been the flagship of this 2023, followed by titans like Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom, Baldur’s Gate 3, or the long-awaited Starfield. And yet, there’s still plenty of magic to come.
In addition to the sequel, Avalanche Software is still in the process of developing the Nintendo Switch version. After numerous delays, Hogwarts Legacy will finally be released on the Nintendo console on November 14th. Although it was originally scheduled for July 25th, the company decided to postpone the release in order to provide “the best possible experience.”
Are you not aware that in our country we apparently have the only stadium located inside a bullring? Come, we are going to tell you everything about the national team that you did not expect… with a final surprise twist.
When it comes to sports, Spain worships them. Football? The Red One. Tennis? Rafa Nadal. Formula 1? Fernando Alonso. Quidditch? Well… Among all the sporting glories that reign in our country, the one from the beloved sport of ‘Harry Potter’ may not be the most memorable. Could it be that you don’t know what we’re referring to? Are you unaware that apparently we have the only stadium located inside a bullring in our country? Come on, we’re going to tell you all about the unexpected national team… with a surprising twist at the end.
It’s true that J.K. Rowling never mentioned the national team in any of the novels of the series. To learn more about Carmen, Iñigo, Sandelino, and the rest of the group, we have to turn to the video game ‘Quidditch World Cup’ from 2003, set in 1994 during ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,’ which featured teams from various countries: Australia, Bulgaria, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, Scandinavia, United States, and, of course, Spain.
The game developers didn’t exactly rack their brains: our stadium was a sort of bullring with architecture reminiscent of Gaudí on the roof, and it would ring church bells whenever a goal was scored. In fact, it is the only stadium in the world located indoors, setting it apart from the rest, of course.
The team’s emblem, as expected, features the standard of the Kingdom of Aragon, but with the addition of several golden Snitches and a Quaffle. Perhaps they didn’t give much thought to those who might be offended by this. The team, of course, wore red and yellow (like bullfighters, alas), and we only know the names of their competitors in the mid-90s. It’s enough to say that they could have done a better job with the Spanish names, at least getting some right.
The Chasers are Carmen García, Ana de Lebrón, and Chavelle Arbelo Cartaya (Chavelle, a typical Spanish name). The Beaters are Vasco Santini and Tiago Montoya, both of whom had trading cards in Chocolate Frogs, the Keeper is Sendelina Felino, and the Seeker is Iñigo Fuente Marrero. They all performed a special move that combined dance and bullfighting. Of course, they did.
But the surprise doesn’t end with the video games: there is also a national quidditch team in real life that was founded in 2015 for the European Games, where they finished ninth and only won one match. Whether you believe it or not, all of them come from different national teams such as Blue Gryffin Burgos, Madrid Lynch, Lumos Compostela, Gasteiz Gamusins, Bizkaia Boggarts, or Malaka Vikings. And yes, indeed, they continue to play (with even a transfer market), with the Dementors being the reigning champions. Consider us officially muggles for having no clue about it.
