The new patch for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 includes suits designed by people you know

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was one of the great successes of 2023. A critical and commercial success, it is undeniable that it was a sequel worthy of its excellent predecessor, putting Insomniac Games in the place they deserve—as one of the best studios under the Sony umbrella. To prove it, they have decided in their next patch to add a little extra care. Something totally unexpected.

The next patch for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is 1.003.000 and while it doesn’t have major gameplay changes, it will add a lot of content. This patch, which will be released on June 18th, will include eight new suits for our favorite superhero. Four were designed from scratch and four were inspired by his adventures in comics and movies.

The most interesting thing about their new suits is that they haven’t been created by just anyone. Insomniac’s artists haven’t created them. They haven’t even called on other artists to give their vision of the character. They have called on famous cultural figures to design these suits, to provide the character with a distinctive touch.

The fashion designer KidSuper has created the Metro Suit, which gives a more urban and contemporary style. Also from KidSuper, in collaboration with football player Vini Jr., we have the Ginga Suit, a suit inspired by the colors of the Brazilian flag and his passion for football. Along with motorcyclist Lando Norris, KidSuper has created the Fluro Suit, a suit inspired by motorcycling where they emphasize fluorescent colors and the contrast of lines. Together with actress, model, and singer Rina Sawayama, they have designed the Motorchic Suit, a suit where they have emphasized leather to give it a more feminine biker look.

Among the suits that have become iconic, we find some well-known ones. The Last Stand Suit is Spider-Man’s jacket and pants suit, not really a suit in itself, from when he had not fully adopted his character yet. Into The Spider-Verse is the suit from the movie of the same name worn by Peter B. Parker, and Animated Suit is the one worn by Miles Morales. Meanwhile, Uptown Pride Suit is Miles Morales’ suit from Marvel’s Spiderman: Miles Morales that returns for the occasion.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is available for PlayStation 5 and, with all these suits, it’s a good time to return to the game. Or to get it if you haven’t played this great sequel of our beloved arachnid superhero yet.

The good news is that its first trailer is already available. The bad news is that the video game has been absolutely canceled before it was leaked.

Imagine what your dream video game would be like. No, wait, let me guess: there are a bunch of Spider-men, you can play with your friends, and it has Insomniac‘s signature graphics, but in this case you fight against some dimensional Sinister Six. Did I get close? If the answer is “yes” I have good news and bad news. The good news is that its first trailer is already available. The bad news is that the video game has been completely canceled before it was leaked.

The game in question would be called ‘Spider-man: The Great Web’ and would feature a team formed by Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Scarlet Spider, Spider-man 2099, and Spider-Gwen, heavily influenced by what we saw in ‘Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse’. Additionally, we would visit other realities like Spider-man Noir’s. In other words, exactly what we have been dreaming of for so long and what the audience has been asking for since ‘Spider-man: No Way Home’. Well, do you know what we are going to have?

This game, certainly not. We will never know how the epic quest of the Sinister Six ends when the Great Web that connects everything is broken, because Insomniac decided to focus on ‘Spider-man 3’ and future spin-offs that we still know nothing about (but if you have played the second part, you will have an idea). We don’t know the reason for the cancellation, and we probably never will, so we can only hope that they somehow pick up the concept in the future. Because, truthfully, it’s an incredible idea.

Will there be a Spider-Verse game? Fans have reasons to believe so

Insomniac has been the latest to delve into a massive data dump that Reddit fans have started digging through, hoping to find new information about ‘Wolverine’… only to discover, instead, something much larger.

It all started with a leak, as everything seems to start lately. A company accidentally leaves a site open for hackers to come in, and they won’t say no because it seems immoral to them. So they go in, of course, with everything they have. And Insomniac has been the latest to suffer a massive data dump that Reddit fans have started digging into, hoping to find new information about ‘Wolverine’… and instead finding something much bigger.

In just five years, the production company has released three Spiderman games to the market and there is no reason to think they won’t continue to do so. In fact, a couple of screenshots promised ‘Spiderman 3’, ‘RCE’ (whatever that is), and ‘Spider-‘, all with the key date of 2025. Considering that another image mentions “additional support for ‘Spider-verse'”, we already have an idea of where things are going.

Is Insomniac’s next project an online multiplayer where each character can create their own Spidey and swing around New York City? Who knows, we must not forget that even with all the leaks, plans can always change. It would actually make perfect sense and be a logical step for the franchise, especially after some players complained about the excessive continuity in ‘Spiderman 2‘. Don’t want more of the same? Well, here’s something completely different.

For now, of course, both Insomniac and Sony have not said a word about the leak. It is possible, in fact, that they have used the unexpected reaction of the public as a trial balloon to know how the project would be (or will be) received. For now, start dusting off the modem, because it may soon be filled… with cobwebs.

Insomniac Games has been hacked, and the criminals are demanding a ransom of 2 million dollars

Insomniac has fallen victim to a severe hack that Sony is currently investigating. Allegedly, the criminals have stolen crucial information regarding future games the studio plans to release in the upcoming years. They are demanding a ransom of 2 million dollars to be transferred in bitcoins if Sony wishes to maintain the confidentiality of the ongoing projects at Insomniac.

This attack could potentially disrupt the company’s marketing plans, but it also puts at risk a plethora of other data, including private information of employees and individuals involved in the developments of Insomniac Games’ projects. It’s a problematic situation that extends beyond harming Insomniac as a part of Sony.

A ransomware attack

Insomniac’s data breach is attributed to a recent ransomware attack the company suffered, as reported by the Anglo-Saxon version of Eurogamer. This attack, claimed by the group Rhysida, supposedly exposed millions of data, documents, and information about their games, including the upcoming release, Marvel’s Wolverine.

This game, first showcased in 2021 long before the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which hit the shelves last October, was presented as the next collaborative endeavor between Insomniac and Marvel. Unfortunately for the company, the group behind the data theft might have access not only to crucial information about Marvel’s Wolverine, such as its release date or undisclosed characters but also personal data of employees from previous projects, like the passport of the English voice actor for Peter Parker.

One of many attacks in the industry

Unfortunately, this is an increasingly recurring situation in the video game industry, where anticipation and marketing play a significant role in a game’s success. However, it can also be a double-edged sword because the more anticipation there is, the easier it becomes for a company to suffer an attack aimed at leaking their content.

Yet, not all leaks are caused by hackers. Many times, leaks happen due to insufficient control on the part of developers, as was the case with the GTA VI trailer, which was forced to be officially released following constant leaks surrounding the highly anticipated game from Rockstar. However, despite not being the company’s original plan, the video quickly broke viewing records on YouTube.
