Rockstar Games, as a company, is a behemoth. With over 2,000 employees and more than 26 years of history, it’s impossible not to have sweet memories playing some of their games. Some of them, not being any installment of GTA. That’s why GTA VI is so highly anticipated: they have consistently delivered high-quality games that have revolutionized, in one way or another, the medium of video games. But that doesn’t mean the wait is going to be any shorter.

So much so that rumors keep emerging that Rockstar could give us the remaster of one of its games before the release of GTA VI. Although people don’t seem to agree on where the clues point or what they want. Bully

Published in 2006, this action adventure is basically the GTA of going to school. We are a kid who is accused of crimes he may or may not have committed and is sent to a boarding school where he will have to rise through the ranks of the different social groups that fill the place, such as the nerds, the bullies, or the athletes. Basically GTA, but without killing anyone and without committing any kind of crime that could land us in jail, it is one of the most unique and interesting games from Rockstar for how it manages to offer a different perspective on what they are known for. Rockstar Games during the PlayStation 2 decided to experiment with stealth games in their own way. This resulted in one of the most unique and misunderstood games of its generation: Manhunt. Even today, it is still not very well understood what it intended. Absolutely brilliant in how it blended its mechanics and narrative in a tremendously hostile game for the player, it is a masterpiece that did not suffer with its second installment. A marvel that is doubtful would be better received today than at the time, but it deserves all the honors.

Los Guerreros

Walter Hill’s film is a cult classic and not without good reason. It is an excellent movie, based on an absolutely fascinating novel by Sol Yurick, which has a very video game-like premise: a gang must travel from one end of New York to the other while all the gangs in the city want to kill them. And Rockstar shows that, indeed, it lends itself to a video game almost as good as the movie in one of the cult classics of the second PlayStation. One that fans are already asking to be remastered.

Midnight Club: Los Angeles

Although it may seem that driving games are no longer as popular among the general public, that doesn’t mean they can’t make a comeback. Especially if the indicated franchises return. One of those franchises is Midnight Club, which reached its peak with Midnight Club: Los Angeles, a fantastic open-world driving game with day and night cycles, licensed vehicles, and realistic traffic. The dream of any GTA fan who wants more realism in their games and could very well bring it back.

Oni

Probably the most unique game on the list, although it’s a bit of a cheat: Rockstar published the game, but it was developed by Bungie. Heavily inspired by Ghost in the Shell and Akira, it is a fascinating third-person shooter with a strong anime aesthetic that, even more today than at the time, could be a hit with the audience. By making its aesthetic cel shading and looking like a real anime, we would have everything we need.

GTA 4

This is the game that everyone is pointing to as potentially getting a remaster. And we’re not surprised. GTA 4 is one of the most beloved GTAs and there are plenty of reasons for that. Niko Bellic is a protagonist with whom it is easy to empathize, his story is probably the best ever told in a GTA, and the supporting cast and mechanics have yet to be surpassed by Rockstar. A remake would be absolutely incredible news, especially if it includes its two DLCs: The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony. Because if they do, we would be talking about the remaster of one of the best games of its generation. And perhaps the best game in Rockstar’s history, which GTA 6 will have to measure up to.
