Did I say ‘Bloodborne’? No, of course not, I’m referring to something completely different from ‘Bloodborne.’ The last thing we want is for Lilith Walther, its developer, to have problems with Sony again after receiving several lawsuits for using the title of their successful game in the promotion of their small free game born out of pure passion.
Let’s clean the streets
In the end, the game has been called ‘Nightmare Kart’ and features 21 characters, 13 karts, and 15 tracks in a complete campaign that will include boss battles and split-screen multiplayer. And all of this while still being ‘Mario Kart,’ ‘Bloodborne,’ and, I repeat, free. It started as a joke in April 2021 and now, three years later, we can finally play without Sony getting in the way.
Walther has already received praise from critics and the public with his “demake” of ‘Bloodborne’ for PS1, and if by now FromSoftware hasn’t realized that they need him on their team, something is wrong. Obviously ‘Nightmare Kart’ doesn’t have the same intention or tone as ‘Bloodborne,’ but that’s precisely the point, no matter how much a couple of purist fans complain. They exist, though.
The best kart game is now available on itch.io (where you can also give some extra money to the authors—do it!) and soon on Steam. And it’s as meticulous, original, and fun as it is absolutely magical. You literally lose nothing by trying it, after all.
