Rick and Morty is returning before its eighth season in the form of an anime directed by the director of two popular anime shorts from the series.

When a series becomes popular, it is normal for it to have many different iterations. It adapts to different media, grows; it ends up seeming like it’s a bit everywhere. It’s natural, it’s healthy, and it shows the interest and appreciation for that series. That’s why we shouldn’t be surprised that Rick and Morty are going to have a spinoff. Announced on May 18, 2022, we hadn’t heard much about this spinoff in almost a year and a half. This has caused many people to forget about it, or even consider it dead, but Rick and Morty: The Anime is still in progress. And apparently, we will have it soon. Because recently we have been able to see a new clip of the series, which should have premiered this fall.

Not even reaching fifty seconds, in the clip we can see Rick piloting a spaceship having to face an army of clones of himself from an alternate universe. While this doesn’t give us new details about the series, what is clear is that it feels very Rick and Morty in its presentation.

Fortunately, what we know is that this series is in very good hands. In addition to being produced by Telecom Animation Film, known for series like Tower of God or Shenmue: The Animation, its director is a familiar face in the franchise. Taking on the direction is Takahashi Sano, who was in charge of two animated shorts of the series, Rick and Morty vs. Genocider and Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil), which have generated over twenty-seven million combined views.

In any case, in order to watch the series, we will still have to wait a little longer. Without a specific release date, all we know is that it will premiere during the first quarter of 2024. Therefore, unless something goes wrong, we will soon be able to enjoy more adventures of Rick and Morty, without having to wait until the premiere of its eighth season.
