Sorprendentemente, dejaron descansar la serie durante mucho tiempo. Su primera secuela no llegaría hasta 2021 con una única temporada y una recepción más bien tibia, bajo el nombre Dexter: New Blood. Y más recientemente volvió a ser rescatada, con mejor recepción entre el público pero con nulo entusiasmo por parte de la crítica, a finales de 2024 con Dexter: Original Sin.

Con estos antecedentes, ante el anuncio de Dexter: Resurrection, una secuela directa de Dexter: New Blood, los fans y la crítica no estaban precisamente entusiasmados ante la idea de una nueva serie de Dexter. Pero la realidad es que esta nueva serie, compuesta de diez episodios, ha superado las expectativas de todo el mundo. Rescatando buena parte del tono de la segunda mitad del tono original, con muchas caras conocidas como Uma Thurman y Peter Dinklage en papeles importantes, y algunos giros realmente alocados, la serie ha conseguido encandilar a crítica y público.

Arrasando entre crítica y público

Con 3.1 millones de espectadores en sus primeros tres días, es la premire más vista en el servicio de streaming de Showtime. Superando en un 44% a Original Sin y a un 76% a Dexter New Blog. Pero incluso los críticos parecen mucho más inclinados a reconocer su valor. Aunque en Metacritic tiene un discreto 65 sobre 100, en Rotten Tomatoes tiene un excelente 95% de aprobación de 59 críticas, demostrando que este sí es el regreso que estaban esperando sus fans.

También ayuda que esta sea la primera de las series, desde la Dexter original, cuya trama parece tener un foco más allá de ser una serie de Dexter. Centrándose en la búsqueda de su hijo y siempre perseguido por el Capitán Ángel Batista, se encontrará con una sociedad de asesinos en serie que acabarán interponiéndose en su camino. Porque como ya hemos dicho, si algo cabe esperar de esta nueva temporada, es mucha más locura.
