Although Sonic 3 has reached these numbers in the domestic sphere, the John Wick saga remains dominant on the global stage. John Wick 4, released in 2023, has achieved $440 million worldwide, while Sonic 3 has so far accumulated $424 million in total. Godzilla Minus One has been a worldwide success and that’s why it will have a new version

“Godzilla Minus One” has been a global success, and because of that, it will have a new version, similar to what another big hit had before: “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

Every so often it appears to ravage Japan and leave by where it came from, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Sometimes, it even does it in the West. We’re talking about Godzilla, of course, but not just about what happens in his movies, but also at the box office. Because even though we sometimes forget, Godzilla is popular, and very much so, and his latest movie, Godzilla Minus One, has been a worldwide success.

That’s why it shouldn’t surprise us that Godzilla Minus One is going to have a new version. But it’s not going to be a director’s cut or anything like that. It’s going to be a completely black and white version.

Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color Call, we have already been able to see a trailer of it, which shows us that, by removing the color, the film remains equally spectacular and terrifying. Something that should not surprise us, since it is not the first film to make this kind of version. Mad Max: Fury Road did it before with its Black & Chrome Edition, which turned George Miller’s exuberant film into a black and white movie.

That they have made this decision when Godzilla Minus One was released less than two months ago should not surprise us given the numbers the movie is making. So far, it has sold a total of 2.87 million tickets for a total of over 31 million dollars, only in Japan. An absolutely astronomical figure for a Japanese film. If we add to that the almost eleven and a half million box office it made in its first weekend in the US, there are plenty of reasons to justify the release of this new version.

Debuting throughout this month in Europe and the rest of the world, it is expected that Godzilla Minus One will continue to cause a sensation among the audience. Meanwhile, to see Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color, we will still have to wait, as it will not be released until January 12th. However, for now, only in Japan.

This movie has managed to surpass Oppenheimer, and we could say it’s “its sequel”

This film has managed to beat Oppenheimer and we could say that it is “his sequel” since the nuclear bombs give rise to it.

Competing at the box office against Oppenheimer this year isn’t something many releases could claim. Nolan’s movie has been a resounding success, and very few others could say they had the capacity to stand face to face against it. However, there’s been a film that not only managed to cast a shadow over it but actually surpassed it. In a way, we could say it’s its sequel—well, if we consider that the consequences of Oppenheimer set the stage for the events in this movie.

According to Box Office Mojo, the new movie featuring our favorite saurian, “Godzilla Minus One,” has managed to reach the top spot among the highest-grossing movies in the United States. By earning $1,225,396 last Monday, it became the highest-grossing movie in the United States and Canada. As of this past Monday, it has amassed $12,645,371 at the U.S. box office.

This means that Godzilla made around $11 million in its first three days in the U.S. Box Office Mojo reports specifically $11,419,975 in its opening weekend, shown across 2,308 screens. This is an absolutely astounding amount, considering that Oppenheimer opened with a spectacular $82.4 million and Barbie with $155 million, doubling the number of screens.

Where has Godzilla: Minus One managed to win? In being the highest-rated movie of the year. While Oppenheimer had comfortably sat at an 8.4 on IMDb, Godzilla Minus One has surpassed it with a spectacular 8.5. Both films this year were only surpassed by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which achieved an 8.7. Yet, this leaves Godzilla Minus One as the highest-rated live-action movie of the year.

For a Japanese Godzilla movie, this is a resounding success. It demonstrates a genuine interest in the character beyond its American version. Hopefully, this will be noted by the Japanese, leading to more frequent releases of their films in the West.
