Dead By Daylight has celebrated its tenth anniversary this 2026, and for this, they held a 10th-anniversary stream where they clarified everything that is to come for the franchise. And it’s quite a lot.
With almost two hours of announcements for the most dedicated fans, they have created a roadmap for the game’s next year that includes not only new features for the game but also for the franchise in general.
An extraordinarily shaped video game
The biggest news has been the first details about the video game movie, announced in 2023. Written by Alexandre Aja and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, known for having written the remakes of Maniac and The Hills Have Eyes and the Conjuring franchise respectively, and directed by Thordur Palsson, director of The Damned, a modest indie production that did not excite either critics or audiences. Confirming that filming will begin in 2027.
For the near future, it has been confirmed that on June 25, Shane Wiigwaas, the first Native American survivor, will be added. Meanwhile, in August, a chapter created by the community (Chrorus of Sin) will arrive, a licensed chapter of Terrifier in November, a new map set in a shopping mall in December, and a chapter based on The Casting of Frank Stone in March 2027.

In the last 20 years, it seems that the ability to create great horror franchises has been lost, with the notable exception of Blumhouse and everything that has come out around the Insidious/The Conjuring universe. But the reality is that there is at least one other franchise that has managed to take off in recent years, and it did so almost unexpectedly. Taking its director to almost instant stardom.
This franchise is A Quiet Place, or Un lugar tranquilo in its original title for the American audience. A franchise that currently spans three movies and a video game, with a fourth installment announced, and whose first two films are now available on streaming services for you to enjoy.
The original movie premiered in 2018 under the direction of John Krasinski. Starring Emily Blunt and Krasinski himself, the film placed us in a terrible situation: civilization has ended due to a species that has invaded us and hunts us down. Fortunately for us, they are blind. Unfortunately, they have very sharp hearing. The film narrates the daily life of a mother and father struggling to raise their children in a post-apocalyptic world where any sound, at the wrong moment, can lead to death.
Using sign language very ingeniously and placing a strong emphasis on the visual, the film stood out for the cleverness of its premise. Here, the terror does not arise from the threat itself, as much as from its presence: everything becomes a potential threat, since the slightest sound can be a death sentence for the whole family. And the film constantly exploits this by putting them in situations where it is difficult not to make any sound. Accidentally or not.
With a modest budget of 17 million, Paramount Pictures must have celebrated with champagne when they saw the numbers the movie was generating. A Quiet Place Part II, like any worthy sequel, arrived shortly after. Although not without problems. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they had to delay the release by almost a year, the film’s budget increased to nearly 60 million, and the marketing budget skyrocketed. But with Krasinski back at the helm and his main actors reprising their roles, now adding Cillian Murphy and Noah Jupe to the cast, the film developed the themes of the first one, emphasizing the particularities of the unique universe they had created.
Something that didn’t seem to be enough. Although it was a success, it wasn’t the same success as the previous one. It raised just under 300 million dollars and the critics would be notably less passionate. The Warrens, the most paranormal couple
Based on true events, The Conjuring, released in 2013, follows the case where two paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, must uncover the extent to which spirits are involved in the strange occurrences of the Perron family. The film was a success for having a relatively realistic tone, emphasizing the supernatural aspects and the investigation itself, treating the work of uncovering the truth almost like a detective exercise.
The movie performed extraordinarily well, being highly appreciated by both critics and audiences, which led to the green light for the second film in the franchise: The Conjuring 2, released in 2014. In this case, the Warrens, five years later, must investigate a particularly tumultuous case that seems to combine a ouija board, strange events in London, and their own home.
Since the second installment was the most successful, it shouldn’t be surprising that they greenlit a third installment, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.
In this third installment, after documenting the exorcism of an 8-year-old boy, things begin to twist rapidly. Mixing supernatural terror with thriller, it may not achieve the same commercial success as the previous installment, but it will be the most intriguing in how it deviates from the classic formula of the franchise. We are yet to see what they do in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, a film set to be released on September 5 of this year.
Annabelle, the doll you wouldn’t want to have at home
But in fairness, the Warren Files would not progress linearly. Between each installment, there would be other movies. Because the protagonist of the first movie would be the doll Annabelle and her first movie would serve as a prequel to the franchise.
Annabelle would premiere in 2014 and would serve to explore the origins of the character. Serving as an origin story, even more than a prequel, it focuses much more on the dramatic aspects and pure horror, making it have a very different approach. This makes it a perfect fit to be the direct sequel to the first Conjuring.
Especially not when it comes to the latest Annabelle movie. Because Annabelle 2: Creation, released in 2017, would tell how Annabelle, the doll, ended up enchanted, in a more formulaic but very satisfying movie for fans.
The latest film in the saga so far is Annabelle Comes Home, released in 2019, which once again crosses the paths of Annabelle and the Warrens. Proving that what they did to end the doll was ultimately not enough, the film feels more like a way to continue exploiting the character’s popularity rather than something that truly adds to the universe. But it is undeniable that it is an enjoyable film that delighted fans.
Where to watch it and in what order
Now that they are all available on Max, it’s possible to watch them as a way to prepare for the new installment of The Conjuring. Or simply to enjoy a good weekend of horror. Although if you also want to see the first two installments of The Nun, you’ll have to watch them on Amazon Prime or Apple TV, although on the latter only for rent.
As for the rest, if you want to see the entire franchise, there are two ways: either by release order (The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Conjuring: The Enfield Case, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and The Nun 2) or by chronological order (The Nun, The Nun 2, Annabelle: Creation, Annabelle, The Conjuring, Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring: The Enfield Case, and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It). But in either case, a marathon of death awaits you.
