In this brief preview, the protagonists Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, face a case of demonic possession that seems to overwhelm them. The images present unsettling moments, such as a mummified hand gripping a shoulder and blood gushing from a character’s mouth, culminating in an exorcism with flames bursting around them. Additionally, there is a glimpse of the famous doll Annabelle, a classic of the series.

Will there be cameos from other iconic characters from their universe?

The new installment, titled The Conjuring: Last Rites, is inspired by a real event known as the ‘Smurl Haunting’, where the Smurl family from Pennsylvania claimed to have been haunted by a demon between 1974 and 1989. This case included strange noises, unpleasant odors, and violent episodes, such as one of the daughters of the family being pushed down the stairs and assaults on other family members. The Warrens’ visit to this family occurred in 1986, becoming a key event from which the narrative of the film is now drawn.

Directed by Michael Chaves, responsible for previous entries in the franchise such as The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Nun, Last Rites marks the farewell of Wilson and Farmiga to their iconic roles. The film also features performances by Mia Tomlinson as Judy Warren, the daughter of Ed and Lorraine, and Ben Hardy as her boyfriend, Tony Spera. James Wan, the creator of the series, serves as a producer alongside Peter Safran.

The Conjuring: Last Rites premieres in theaters on September 5, 2025, marking a significant closure for one of the most successful and terrifying franchises in contemporary horror cinema.
