The Witcher 3 was released in 2015, but the game is still as alive today as it was on the day of its release. The fact that it has been ported to every possible console has helped, but CD Projekt has also never completely abandoned the game. Even when Cyberpunk 2077 was a failure, they held onto the fans’ love for the franchise. Something they will be rewarded for.
On May 21st, they will introduce a mod editor for The Witcher 3 based on the game engine. Completely official, it will be free for all those who have a copy of The Witcher 3 on PC. Additionally, it will be available on Steam, GOG, and EpicGames.
This doesn’t mean that this is the first time mod support arrives to The Witcher 3. So far, there were already numerous mods for the game. What this editor will allow is to make changes in a simpler, deeper and more efficient way. In the short term, this will be noticed in a greater number of cosmetic mods, but in the long term it would allow things that are currently very difficult to achieve. Such as new complete campaigns, or the inclusion of new mechanics within the game.
That’s why seeing the importance that this tool will have is something that we won’t see until a distant future. Something similar to what happens with Baldur’s Gate 3, which is going to receive a mod editor like this. But what we are sure of is that, with such a passionate community like The Witcher’s, we won’t take long to see authentic wonders.
