Since the launch of Starfield in 2023, Bethesda has not provided significant updates about the game, which has led to the community questioning the future of this project. Tim Lamb, the game’s executive producer, has recently spoken about future improvements in space gameplay, although details are scarce. Despite these efforts, many players feel frustrated by the lack of new content since 2025 and the absence of major updates in the short term.
If I don’t see it, I don’t believe it
The situation complicates with the recent popularity of No Man’s Sky, which has launched new corvette-class ships along with a modular creation and customization system. This has led some players to reconsider their interest in Starfield, especially since currently, the gameplay options in space are limited to combat, trading, and fast travel. The comparison does not play in favor of Bethesda’s title, which could lose relevance quickly if it fails to capture players’ attention.
Lamb has confirmed that the team is working on improving exploration and space gameplay. Additionally, he has promised free updates with features requested by players and new systems that, however, will not arrive before 2026. This long period without relevant content has raised concerns about Starfield’s ability to retain public interest while competitors like No Man’s Sky and Star Citizen continue to introduce new features regularly.
Likewise, rumors are circulating about a possible PS5 version of Starfield, although it is considered complicated for its release in 2025. Expectations are high, but the community is wondering if the title will be able to withstand a year without substantial updates. With an eye on the future, uncertainty about the game’s fate persists.
