CD Projekt RED has confirmed the release of a new update for Cyberpunk 2077, which will debut on April 8 and will be free for PS5 owners.
This patch is designed to optimize the game on next-generation consoles, incorporating significant visual and performance improvements.
Even better on PS5 Pro
The update introduces three specific graphics modes for PS5 Pro: RT Pro, which runs at 30 fps or 40 fps on 120 Hz compatible screens, prioritizing visual quality with more advanced ray tracing; the standard RT Mode, which offers a balance with 60 fps while maintaining some ray tracing effects; and the Performance Mode, which aims to maximize the frame rate up to 90 fps using VRR, leaving ray tracing aside.
However, Digital Foundry’s review highlights that, although the RT Pro Mode improves aspects such as shadows and lighting, it does not meet the expected standards compared to the PC version, with limited reflections and performance drops in dense areas of the game. The Performance Mode has been the most valued for providing a smooth experience and nearly in 4K, although the selectable upscaling technology between FSR and PSSR has sparked debates about visual quality.
It has been speculated that the solution points to an adapted version for PS6, although there are no official confirmations regarding this.As Alex Battaglia points out, there could be a future version of Cyberpunk 2077 optimized for this console, which could offer an even smoother experience in the near future. Thus, CD Projekt RED continues to solidify its reputation for maintaining support for a title considered old, something rare in the industry.
