In a significant change that will be implemented in 2026, The Elder Scrolls Online will adopt a new seasonal system that will replace traditional DLCs, aiming to provide a more organic and accessible experience for all players. This approach, announced after more than a year of evolution in the design of Bethesda and ZeniMax’s MMO, promises to revolutionize the way content is released and consumed.
Accessibility and Participation
The seasons, which will begin with Season 0 on April 2, 2026, will be offered for free to all game owners, thus eliminating the need to pay additionally for previous content. In addition, the previous chapters will be integrated into the base game, ensuring that no one is left behind in the narrative. Updates will be released simultaneously on PC and consoles, addressing the demands of the player community that called for more equitable access.
A central element of this new approach will be the Tamriel Tomes system, similar to a battle pass, that will allow players to earn rewards by completing seasonal challenges, with both free and paid options. This change not only centralizes the experience but also alleviates the pressure by removing mandatory daily objectives, allowing players to choose flexibility and customization in their challenges.
Complementing this system, the Gold Coast Bazaar will allow players to exchange items using trade bars, coins obtained by completing challenges, with no limit and no option to purchase with real money, which aims to encourage effort within the game. The anticipated Update 49, which will be released on March 9, will provide gameplay adjustments and increase the furniture limit in houses, thus modernizing the overall gaming experience.
With these changes, ZeniMax Online aims to keep the game relevant, addressing long-term concerns and offering more engaging and varied content for its player community.
