Assassin’s Creed Mirage: Could it Take the Throne as the Best Game in the Series?

Assassin’s Creed Mirage was featured at the PlayStation Showcase and we got the impression that it was a return to the roots of the franchise.

The PlayStation Showcase brought us great games, but one of the most eye-catching ones was Assassin’s Creed Mirage. With a particularly striking trailer, it seems to be everything we expect from Assassin’s Creed. The parkour, stealth assassinations, climbing, one-on-one combat – all those things we associate with the Ubisoft saga, and it looks like Assassin’s Creed Mirage is bringing them back to us.

While we don’t know all the details of the game yet, what this first gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Mirage sells us is that Bassin, the protagonist of this game, is going back to the roots of the franchise. Assassin’s Creed Mirage seems to be returning to a more classic style of gameplay. Instead of traversing an almost infinite open-world map, it appears that everything will be confined to a large but relatively contained city, where the focus will be on the mechanics that made us fall in love with the early Assassin’s Creed games: the incredible use of movement and the satisfaction of combat and executions.

This would be a welcomed change, especially because it has been a long time since we had an Assassin’s Creed game of this kind. Assassin’s Creed Origins seemed like it would bring us back to the roots, to a simpler and more contained experience, and while it is a foundational game that we all appreciate and respect, it ended up being something else. Having a game that brings back the excitement and feeling that the classics of the series were capable of generating, something that no other game or franchise has been able to replicate, would be incredible for Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

With a release date set for October 12th, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is confirmed to launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, and Microsoft Windows. Therefore, while we still have to wait a bit to find out if our impressions and desires will be fulfilled, until then, we have faith that this will be the Assassin’s Creed game that brings the series back to its roots.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage confirmed by Ubisoft after leaked images appeared

An interesting series of fortunate events emerged yesterday regarding the next Assassin’s Creed game in the series. First, there was a leaked image for a new DLC that featured a Forty Thieves questline. While many sites were wondering if it will be the new AC: Mirage everyone is talking about, Ubisoft went ahead and confirmed it.

Assassin's Creed DOWNLOAD

Let’s start at the beginning of the trail of events. The Ubisoft Store had leaked an image of a Forty Thieves DLC quest, which many gamers quickly took note of. ScriptLeaksR6 was one of the first to tweet about it, while only posting the word ‘mirage’. Since then, everyone has been wondering if this is the new Assassin’s Creed game we’ve been waiting for.

Instead of removing the image and denying the rumors, Ubisoft did what so many publishers choose not to do. The company gave in and confirmed that Assassin’s Creed: Mirage is indeed the next game in the series. What’s more is that we’ll learn more about it during Ubisoft Forward on September 10, 2022.

Now here’s something even more interesting. The concept art has a character in a white assassin robe that looks very similar to the one we saw on Basim in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. Since it seems we’re dealing with a DLC that’s become a standalone game, there’s no reason to think this isn’t true.

Does that mean Ubisoft is doing the same as it did with the Ezio chronicles? Are we going to see a new Basim chronicle that follows the Valhalla main game? If the concept art is anything to go by, it looks like we’re heading for a Ali Baba type storyline, which will be quite exciting. We’ll keep tabs on any further Assassin’s Creed leaks we discover and let you know.

A new Assassin’s Creed game is coming in Spring 2023

Ubisoft is holding a big Assassin’s Creed event on September 10, 2022. However, there have been quite a few rumors leading up to this event. One, in particular, is about a new Assassin’s Creed game coming to the franchise, named Mirage.

Assassin's Creed DOWNLOAD

A popular YouTuber, J0natan, announced that Assassin’s Creed Mirage, a brand new game that developers haven’t yet confirmed, will be released in Spring 2023. According to him, the game will take place in Baghdad in the late 800s. Apparently, the game franchise is aiming to return to its roots with this game, with no leveling and a few other gameplay tweaks.

Another reporter, Jason Schreier, commented on the post clarifying that, according to his sources close to the developers, some of the reported leaks may be true, while others simply aren’t. According to Jason, the game’s name, Mirage, and the tentative release date are accurate. Also, the setting in Baghdad and the return-to-basics approach is also true. However, the rumors about being able to explore multiple cities divided by deserts and rivers are false.

Another rumor is that the player character will be Basim, the character from Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, in his youth before he joined the Hidden Ones. Some of the back-to-basics changes players can expect will be no dialogue choices or the ability to change the character’s gender.

There are leaks that suggest that this back-to-basics approach for the new game has something to do with a potential remake of the original Assassin’s Creed. Some believe this remake will be a part of Mirage’s Season Pass. The leaks also suggest there may be a Constantinople DLC.

For now, these reports are nothing but rumors, but we hope to learn more at Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed event in September. During this event, we’ll also be learning more about the ambitious Assassin’s Creed Infinity. So there’s a lot of exciting news coming for fans of the franchise soon.

The 5 essential Assassin’s Creed games

With over 20 games released on everything from the Wii U to the Xbox One, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series is maybe one of the most prolific franchises in gaming. With such a huge list of titles to choose from, where should new players jump in?

With over 20 games released on everything from the Wii U to the Xbox One, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series is maybe one of the most prolific franchises in gaming. The games are set in various eras of history and chronicle the age-old conflict between two ancient secret societies, the Assassins and the Templars. With such a huge list of titles to choose from, where should new players jump in? Fear not: we’ve compiled a list of the five games essential for players who are new to the series.

1. Assassin’s Creed II

The second title in the series introduces players to Ezio Auditore da Firenze, an Assassin during the Italian Renaissance and perhaps one of the game’s most beloved characters. A marked improvement on the first Assassin’s Creed, this is a perfect introduction to the franchise, and perhaps one of its strongest entries. Players can explore gorgeously rendered Italian cities such as Venice and Florence while familiarizing themselves with the game’s trademark stealth mechanics, pulling off spectacular assassinations, and meeting up with historical icons like Leonardo Da Vinci.

2. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood

Brotherhood is an immediate follow-up to Assassin’s Creed II, and the first game in the series to feature a multiplayer mode. In the main story, players again return as Ezio as he begins building the Assassins into a truly powerful organization. Familiar characters from the second game return, endowing Ezio with new equipment and abilities. Players can also command teams of Assassin recruits, using them to achieve an edge in combat or sending them on missions across the globe to find new weapons, armor, and treasures for Ezio to use.

3. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

Black Flag is set during the Golden Age of Piracy. This time, players take control of Edward Kenway, a pirate and reluctant Assassin. Players can explore an absolutely massive map of the Caribbean, sailing from island to island as they customize their own ship and build up their pirate hideout. The ship combat is easily one of the best parts of this game. Players can attack small merchant vessels for supplies or go after larger warships to add to their fleet, and can either attack from a distance or jump aboard disabled ships for some tense swordfights worthy of “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

4. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

Industrial Revolution-era London is the backdrop for the story of brother-and-sister Assassins Jacob and Evie Frie. Players can swap back and forth between these two characters at pretty much any time, and each offers their own unique character and play style. Being one of the most modern games in the series, some distinctly-steampunk gadgets such as a grappling hook offer fun new assassination opportunities. The highlight of this game, though, is London itself. Though previous games in the series have been set in the tense confines of large cities, this game perfects that atmosphere. Exploring the city’s dark streets and beautiful architecture is one of the most memorable aspects of this entry, and nothing makes you feel more like an Assassin that pulling off a perfect silent assassination in a foggy, cobblestoned London back alley.

5. Assassin’s Creed Origins

The latest game in the series is also one of the best. Like the name implies, this game lets players explore the origins of the feud between the Assassins and Templars against the backdrop of ancient Egypt. The combat system received a total overhaul for this title, allowing for much more fluid fights. The addition of a shield means players will have to play defensively just as much as offensively. An addition of a standalone arena mode allows this new combat system to really shine, and offers hours of additional fun while letting players fight unique and spectacular bosses and unlock equipment for use in the main story.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the latest game in the series, is slated for an October release. This means there’s still plenty of time to catch up and embrace your inner assassin. Just remember: nothing is true; everything is permitted.

Ubisoft are giving away Assassin’s Creed IV and World in Conflict

In an effort to get people to sign up to their online gaming portal, Uplay, Ubisoft are giving away two excellent games. If you create a Ubisoft account, you’ll be able to get your hands the 2007 real-time strategy game World in Conflict and 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV.

First up is World in Conflict, which will be available free until December 11th. World in Conflict was developed by Massive Entertainment and brought some really fresh elements into the RTS genre. The game did away with base-building and forced players to concentrate on micro-tactical maneuvers, which fostered coherent and fast-paced gameplay. On top of that the introduction of the cover dynamic and an engrossing storyline make World in Conflict a game that is still worthy of your attention 10 years after it was released. If you want to play World in Conflict, you can get the Complete Edition for free until December 11th.

Assassin’s Creed: Victory leaked, takes players to Victorian London

Ubisoft gets a lot of flack for milking its Assassin’s Creed franchise, but that hasn’t deterred the company from already working on next year’s installment. The game will be called Assassin’s Creed: Victory and will take place in Victorian London. Keeping reading to see some screenshots from the new game.

Assassin’s Creed: Victory leaked, takes players to Victorian London (updated)

Ubisoft gets a lot of flack for milking its Assassin’s Creed franchise but that hasn’t deterred the company from already working on next year’s installment. Kotaku obtained early information about the game in a leak. The game will be called Assassin’s Creed: Victory and will take place in Victorian London.

From the few screenshots posted on Kotaku, the game looks much the same and even uses the same game engine found in Assassin’s Creed: Unity. That’s not a bad thing though, as the graphics are impressive. Hopefully Ubisoft will quality test Victory so that terrifying faceless characters don’t show up in the game again.

Victory on car battle

Victory will apparently be the only Assassin’s Creed game due for release next year. This year, we saw three separate Assassin’s Creed games: Unity, Rogue, and China.

The game will also ditch the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in favor of the latest generation of consoles. PC players will of course be getting the game too.

Victory swinging

What Victory lacks in original story, it makes up with new gameplay dynamics. There will apparently be fights on moving vehicles and a grappling hook, which should mix up the gameplay a little.

Still, for gamers who are sick of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, there’s doesn’t seem much in Victory that will lure them back.

UPDATE: Here’s the official word from Ubisoft about the leak.

“It is always unfortunate when internal assets, not intended for public consumption, are leaked. And, while we certainly welcome anticipation for all of our upcoming titles, we’re disappointed for our fans, and our development team, that this conceptual asset is now public. The team in our Quebec studio has been hard at work on the particular game in question for the past few years, and we’re excited to officially unveil what the studio has been working on at a later date. In the meantime, our number one priority is enhancing the experience of Assassin’s Creed Unity for players.”

More Assassin’s Creed Chronicles chapters coming after ‘China’

Earlier this year, Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China, a side scrolling spin off of its huge adventure franchise. Now, the company has said that we can expect more from Chronicles, with each new chapter exploring a different part of the AC universe.

These comments came in an interview with Eurogamer. The upcoming Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China will feature protagonist Shao Jun, who has already been mentioned in the novelization of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, and Embers, the animated epilogue of that game.

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China looks like an updated Prince of Persia, but with Chinese ink-style art. Assassin’s Creed: Unity creative director Alex Amancio says that each successive chapter of Chronicles will have art styles that suit their locations and eras. Assassin’s Creed fans have made lots of requests for new locations in the game, and Chronicles is an opportunity for Ubisoft to answer some of those.

Amancio did not say how future chapters would be released. Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China will be free for season pass players of Assassin’s Creed: Unity, but there’s no word if it will be available as a standalone title.

Ubisoft is releasing a host of Assassin’s Creed games over the next few months. As well as Chronicles and Unity, there will be Assassin’s Creed: Rogue, the compendium Birth of a New World, and Assassin’s Creed: Identity.
