For now, we know that the story will continue where the previous Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 left off. Activision has confirmed that its campaign will bring back one of the most recognized villains in the franchise, Vladimir Makarov. In fact, some of you may remember him from the infamous mission ‘No Russian.’ However, here we will have a completely revamped campaign that will show us Makarov’s return in a different way.

Among other details, the company has also confirmed that we will see a Zombies Mode within MW3. This makes it the first game in the Modern Warfare series to include a Zombies Mode. Additionally, anyone coming from Modern Warfare 2 will be able to transfer their operator inventory and weapon progression to the new installment, ensuring that nothing is lost along the way.

Furthermore, the Ricochet Anticheat (Call of Duty’s anti-cheat system) will also be updated for the release of MW3. Activision is committed to providing a cheat-free and toxic-free gaming experience. Modern Warfare 3 will be available at launch on PlayStation (PS5 and PS4), Xbox (Series X, S, and One), and PC.

Infinity Ward teases a Modern Warfare Sequel in the Call of Duty “New Generation”

Activision is wasting no time in beefing up their already stellar catalog. With the ink barely dry on the release of Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Vanguard, the gaming publisher has inadvertently announced a new project. In a post on Twitter yesterday, the Infinity Ward official account tweeted that it was bringing to life ‘A new generation of Call of Duty.’

Expected to arrive sometime this year, Infinity Ward’s next contribution to the CoD franchise is rumored to be a sequel to Modern Warfare. It could reportedly feature drug cartels as the main storyline. 

Modern Warfare is one of the greatest titles in the Call of Duty franchise, and for a good reason. First released in 2019, the game brought back characters from CoD games past, even though the canon was slightly altered, and introduced several notable new ones. A sequel to Modern Warfare was expected as relentlessly teased and desired within the CoD community, so Infinity Ward’s announcement comes as no surprise.

However, what is surprising is the rumor that it will center around drug cartels, as Call of Duty has mostly previously focused on full-blown war and rebellions. But this would not be the first time CoD has deviated from that unwritten rule, and Colombia’s war on drugs is considered a modern war, so it would be an apt setting for a Modern Warfare Sequel.

The game’s future in terms of platform is uncertain, with Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard, but reports suggest that at least the next three CoD titles will still be on PlayStation. The assumption is that the franchise will eventually take its place on Xbox and Microsoft Gaming with all of Microsoft’s other acquisitions, but nothing has been confirmed as yet. We do have a suspicion which Activision Blizzard games we expect to see on Games Pass, though.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is almost here. Due to hit consoles on October 12, the game has been generating a lot of buzz. A Massive Map

From the beginning, Treyarch was clear that Blackout’s map would be the biggest ever encountered in a Call of Duty game… and it is. In fact, it might be easier to think of it as a series of smaller maps stitched together. Most of the map’s locations are throwbacks to locations in other games in Black Ops chronology. It’s a super cool feeling to stumble upon these locations for the first time, so we won’t give too much away, but suffice it to say that the Dam from the first Black Ops makes an appearance, as does the Nazi Asylum from World at War.

The map itself is loaded with loot. Like any good Call of Duty game, the arsenal of guns at your disposal is vast, and you’ll also be able to find a variety of attachments that let you customize your guns to your liking. This will certainly be a change for Fortnite players, where guns are found and used as-is. You’ll also be able to find consumable perks, similar to the soda vending machines from the Zombies game type. Loot is plentiful and easy to find, but this doesn’t make the game feel any less challenging.

As with other Battle Royale games, the structure is going to be the same. You and 79 other players will drop into the map and attempt to survive against other players and an ever-encroaching storm. One of the key new HUD features that shakes things up is a map tool that tells you how far on the map you are from safety and how close the storm is to you. It’s a neat feature that’s unique to the Blackout experience.

Zombies

One other major factors that is going to set Blackout apart from other Battle Royale games is the inclusion of zombies. Yes, that’s right, zombies will be roaming around the map, and you’ll have to contend with them as well as the other players that are out to kill you. The inclusion of NPCs is a first in a Battle Royale game, and certainly shakes up how the game is played.

Zombies won’t be appearing all over the map. They’re only found in certain key locations… locations that will make sense to veterans of the Black Ops series. Hence, they can be avoided, but sometimes their appearance can be a surprise that changes the outcome of a firefight. The zombies aren’t just cannon fodder, either. They’re tough opponents in their own right, and can be shockingly lethal. Even just a handful of the undead can be a significant challenge to contend with.

They’re not just a threat, though. Smart players can use zombies to their advantage. If you find yourself in the midst of a firefight with an opposing squad or a skilled opponent, leading them into a horde of zombies is an excellent way to regain the upper hand. You can beat a hasty retreat while they’re distracted with the undead, or pick them off while they’re fighting for survival.

Revamped Gameplay

The game itself is also going to play differently than a traditional Call of Duty title. First and foremost, passive healing is gone. Players will have to find and collect healing items if they want to heal while injured. Healing is bound to its own button, and unlike Fortnite, players will be able to heal on the move. The system as a whole will feel very familiar to Far Cry players, a game that has a similar active healing mechanic.

Players themselves are a fair bit tankier than in previous Call of Duty entries, making firefights longer. Deciding when to retreat and heal is going to be a new aspect of battle, and players are going to have to think about encounters a little more strategically. Gunfights won’t necessarily be lethal, meaning you’ll have to think seriously about whether you’re going to stick it out until the kill. To this end, healing items are plentiful and players are able to carry quite a lot of them.

Also new to Blackout is a grapple mechanic. It’s easy to think of this mechanic as a much more fluid version of Fortnite’s new grapple gun. Grappling allows fast traversal of the battlefield and will let players quickly climb large structures to change the game. This fills the gap left by the Exo Suit, popularized in recent franchise entries but absent in Blackout. Adding this element of vertical traversal makes battles feel much more dynamic.

Traversal is also made into an entirely different ballgame with the addition of vehicles. From choppers to ATVs to boats, Blackout has them all. It’s the first CoD multiplayer experience to feature vehicles in a major way, but despite this, the handling and controls feel quite intuitive. Vehicles also don’t feel overpowered. Players on foot will be able to deal with players in vehicles in a way that is balanced and won’t leave players feeling bitter about their inclusion.

As a whole, Blackout is doing quite a bit to make itself stand out in an already crowded Battle Royale arena. The experience feels unique enough that it’ll certainly be making a name for itself come October 12.

Finally, in Spec Ops, you and a friend can team up race snowmobiles, stealthily infiltrate enemy bases, and survive against waves of enemies. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, coming out in October 2018, could be a first for the franchise: it’s possible it will be the only CoD without a Campaign Mode. Why? Because it has to keep up with the times.

Several sources have assured that Black Ops 4 will forego Campaign Mode for a very trendy mode these days: Battle Royale. This mode is used by two of today’s most famous games: PlayersUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite.

In reality, Campaign Mode, the classic CoD mode, has been losing traction in recent editions: users finish the game quickly and mainly play using multiplayer and zombie modes.

Another rumor involves who will be in charge of the new Battle Royale mode for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The name being thrown around is Raven Software, which has been developing additional CoD games since 2010. They’re also responsible for a handful of franchise games such as Star Wars, X-Men, and Star Trek.

Though a Battle Royale mode for the Call of Duty franchise was only a matter of time, nobody expected it so soon.

What does Activision have to say about all this? Well, nothing for now. Maybe they’ll wait until May 17, the date chosen by the company to officially reveal the game and show off its first details.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 – 5.5 multiplayer tips

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is here, and it is as good as we hoped. If you are getting started on the multiplayer and are feeling daunted by the changes, here is our refresher guide.

1) Wait… you are totally new to CoD?

Yup, if you have played Call of Duty before you may as well skip over this. But just in case you are new, here are a couple of quick pointers.

Team Deathmatch is the mode you want to start on. Its fast paced, but you should live long enough to get some practice in with each weapon in order to decide what works for you.

Also, take this time to adjust your stick/mouse sensitivity until you are comfortable – there nothing worse than constantly dying because everyone else on the battlefield can aim faster.

2) I like the way you move

The latest Call of Duty, once again, significantly alters movement. You are mobile than in many previous installments, but not quite as nimble as in the last installment, Advanced Warfare. The new thrust ability sits nicely between Black Ops 2’s mantling and Advanced Warfare’s jetpack which, when placed along side wall-runs, creates a momentum based system that requires skill to master.

These free-running and thruster abilities can be easily likened to games liken Titanfall, and they add a lot of options to how you get around the map. This means you have rethink cover. You are no longer safe behind that wall, and attacks can come from the left, right, or over the top. More importantly though, when considering attacks remember you too can vault, clamber, leap, and bound your way around the map to try and catch your adversaries unaware.

Oh, and master all of these new found mobility skills on the training missions.

3) Learn maps and routes

Call of Duty has always used verticality to its maps, but Black Ops 3’s extra mobility has made this even more important. Learn the maps, but also learn all the different ways you can now navigate them.

A skilled free-runner can catch unsuspecting players off-guard by scrambling their way across unlikely routes to higher levels. So, even if you can’t manage this reliably yourself initially, learn these routes so no one can get the drop on you.

And, as always, keep moving – stationary targets don’t last long (this isn’t Destiny).

4) Get that sweet XP

As previously stated Teamdeath Match is a great place to start, but another good way to get your all-important XP level up is with Capture the Flag – and to hang about to the end of a match even if your team is losing to get that sweet XP bump.

Also, think about is equipping achievable Scorestreaks. Even if they are not the best you have unlocked, setting a streak with a lower kill goal means that you will have more opportunity to use them, which in turn nets you better XP rewards.

Regularly switching weapons and Specialists can give you an XP bump too, but I tend to side with mastering what I am comfortable with – the choice there is yours.

5) War has changed (and so have the guns)

This year the Call of Duty community has spoken and decided that, of all the various weapon classes available, the LMGs is the weapon of choice – with a nod also going to SMGs.

LMGs are not only powerful this year, they are also incredibly versatile thanks to being easily able to deal damage at close and mid-range with ease.

This flexibility is particularly handy as a CQC attack is no longer a guaranteed kill. That’s right, getting up on a foe and knifing them is no longer an automatic kill, so a quick burst and stab is the best way to handle close encounters.

5.5) Specialize

I mentioned them before, but the addition of Specialists to multiplayer is significant. Each of these nine hero-like characters have their own unique weapons and abilities that are charged as matches unfurl, and knowing how to use these skills can change the flow of the match.

You level each class independently, but learning which works for your play style is vital. And, spoiler, it may not be the one you like the look of. Check out our quick reference guide to the Specialists for a better idea of who suits your play style.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 – Specialist quick guide

Four Specialists are unlocked when you start Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. Battery, Prophet, Outrider, and Ruin make up this starting cast, with a further five – Seraph, Nomad, Reaper, Spectre, and Firebreak – unlocking at 22, 28, 34, 40, and 46 respectively.

Here is a quick taster of the kind of playstyles that suit each character. But, as with everything else, try them all at least once to see if the theory keeps holds true.

Battery – An out and out tank who gets into the middle of the action with her powerful Kinetic Armor ability and War Machine bouncing grenade launcher. Great if you like to be in the thick of the action.

Prophet – High tech fighter whose “Glitch” skill allows him to back along his path to get out of trouble. His chain lighting Tempest gun makes him perfect for dealing with groups on capture/control maps.

Outrider – Wielding a bow named Sparrow, Outrider’s weapon demands a little planning, because the weapon charges as the string is drawn, but once readied it can take people out in a single shot. If your accurate and fast enough to always make it count – which I am not – she is a very powerful choice, particularly with her Vision Pulse that briefly lets her see enemies through walls.

Ruin – Ruin is basically Jax from Mortal Kombat, only he chose to have his arms replaced with bionics. Ideal for close quarter fighters who miss the knife instant kills as most of his powers are based on speed – Overdrive speeds him up significantly – and smashing – his gravity spikes kill anyone near him when pounded into the ground.

Seraph (22) – Outrider and Seraph will attract similar players. Her powerful Annihilator handgun will take out anyone in a single shot, but sends your aim all over the place leaving you prone. Her Combat Focus skill also helps to accelerate her acquisition of Scorestreaks.

Nomad

Nomad (28) – Nomad is a character for the team player who enjoys point control maps. With a nice supply of sticky drones from his H.I.V.E. weapon, he can quickly set up a perimeter, while his Rejack allows him to quickly respawn and defend.

Reaper (34) – Another defensive class, this robot lays down a swarm of covering fire with his Scythe mini-gun and has the ability to produce passive clones to distract the enemy with Psychosis.

Spectre (40) – Here is one if you like Ruin. Fast, easily able to get kills with Ripper melee attacks when up close, and an Active Camo cloak. This is one for all of you stealthy, quick assassins.

Firebreak (46) – He lacks the explosives of Battery, but Firebreak’s Purifier flamethrower provide similar advantages in small enclosed spaces. Once up close, his Heat Wave skill can also stun opponents in range.
