Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie: Release Date, Duration, and Everything We Know So Far

Luckily, there is less time left before we can enjoy (or be horrified) by Five Nights at Freddy’s in theaters. We tell you everything we know about the film so far.

Never before have animatronics caused as much havoc as these. Since its release in 2014, Five Nights at Freddy’s has managed to string together success after success, showing little signs of fatigue. The franchise has had it all: novel adaptations, guides, communities gathering to craft the most convoluted theories, and now, its movie.

Its first teaser and subsequent trailer have left fans of the franchise more impatient than ever. Fortunately, we’re getting closer to being able to enjoy (or be horrified by) Five Nights at Freddy’s in theaters (or at home). Below, we’ll provide you with everything we know about the movie so far.

When does Five Nights at Freddy’s premiere and how long will it be?

Perhaps one of the most frequently asked questions. Universal Studios has already confirmed some release dates for Five Nights at Freddy’s, with one of them being October 27, 2023, for the United States. Other regions like Central America will have a bit more luck, as they can watch the movie one day earlier, on October 26.

On the other hand, in countries like Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, and Uruguay, the release is moved to November 2. Unfortunately, in Spain, we’ll have to wait a bit longer, specifically until November 3. Ecuador will be the last to receive the movie on November 9.

The release will be simultaneous in both theaters and streaming. So, if you don’t want (or can’t) go to a theater, you’ll always have the option to access the Peacock platform.

As for its duration, we know that the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie will take 122 minutes to watch (approximately two hours and 2 minutes).

Which actors appear in it?

In the cast of Five Nights at Freddy’s, you will find actors who have appeared in other major films. To start, there’s Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, Bridge to Terabithia), who plays Mike Schmidt, the security guard featured in the first FNAF game. You’ll also see Mathew Lillard (Scooby-Doo, Scream), who will be portraying William Afton and taking on the role of the movie’s villain.

FNAF will also feature Elizabeth Lail (You). In this case, she will be playing Vanessa Monroe, a character introduced in Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach. Finally, there will also be Piper Rubio, Kat Conner Sterling, and Mary Stuart Masterson, among others.

As if that weren’t enough, the animatronics we’ll see in the movie have been crafted by none other than Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. The signature of this company can be found in the creatures from The Muppets, The Dark Crystal, and even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

What story will the FNAF movie follow?

So far, we know that this first adaptation of the franchise in cinemas will focus on the events we saw in the original Five Nights at Freddy’s game. In this storyline, Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) starts working as a night security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Schmidt is responsible for his younger sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), and must bring her along to work. However, nothing is as it seems.

The famous animatronic mascots at the establishment begin to behave strangely, and suddenly, they come to life in the middle of the night. Throughout the movie, both Mike and Abby will have to find a way to survive until dawn. As we have also seen in the trailer, everything indicates that the film will delve into the origin of the animatronics, the murdered children, and also into the co-founder of Fazbear Entertainment, William Afton (Mathew Lillard).

Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is involved in the new FNAF movie

At long last, we have some measure of progress on the long-awaited Five Nights at Freddy’s movie. Judging by recent social media posts, it’s looking like Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is taking the reigns and creating the animatronics for the new FNAF film by Blumhouse.

Five Nights at Freddy's DOWNLOAD

If the production of the storyline of the game had anything to do with the carnage of the movie’s development, we’d all have been stuck in the retro hellscape that is Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria for far longer than five nights. The movie has gone through more script changes than the plot of a soap opera and, in the time that it’s been in production, has cycled through too many directors to mention.

What seemed like the final straw to break the camel’s back came when series creator Scott Cawthon resigned from the project – and the gaming industry as a whole – when it came out that he had supported Trump. If we’ve learned anything in the last few years, it’s that there’s no tolerance in this hyper-tolerant society for conservative voters.

It seems now, though, that the long road to the silver screen is finally beginning to open up to the highly-anticipated film adaptation of everyone’s favorite indie thriller game. Even more good news came in the form of a recent tweet by the founder of Blumhouse Productions, Jason Blum. According to Blum, Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is going to be involved in the production of the new Five Nights at Freddy’s movie.

‘It’s great to be working with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Their experience and expertise with animatronics is absolutely killer! @blumhouse.’

While we don’t know exactly what Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is going to be doing, given the scope of what the Creature Shop has done previously, we expect that it’ll be heavily involved in the design and production of the animatronics. There’s a lot more in the tweet than just the confirmation that Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is involved in the movie’s production, however.

We can also quite clearly see an unfinished model of Freddy Fazbear. The reason why we know this model to be Freddy Fazbear is because of the bowtie on the model’s neck and the microphone in the model’s hand.

Here’s hoping we start to see more hints at the movie’s production progression soon. While you’re waiting for more info on the movie, though, why not read our guide on how to download and install Five Nights at Freddy’s?

Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie gets Home Alone director, Chris Columbus

Five Nights at Freddy’s is one of the most successful independent video games ever and just might be the best (read scariest) horror video game ever created. With plenty of successful sequels and millions of screaming fans around the world, it came as no surprise last year when a major film studio bought the rights to turn it into a movie.

Not just any studio either. Blumhouse Productions have been responsible for some of the best horror movies of recent years, including Paranormal Activity, Get Out, Insidious, Split, The Purge, and Sinister. Blumhouse and FNAF seem like a perfect match for each other and with the recent announcement of Home Alone’s Chris Columbus as director, writer, and producer the FNAF movie is shaping up nicely.

As well as directing Home Alone, Columbus has been responsible for movies including Mrs.Doubtfire and two Harry Potter films, but also Gremlins and, more recently, The Witch. There isn’t much information about the FNAF movie out there yet, but as the game is loved by children all over the world, it’d be a good guess that Blumhouse will try to take advantage of this by making a horror film that’ll have kids scared witless without having them burst into tears. If this is what they’re planning, then Columbus is an inspired choice for the director as his CV includes a mix of all the elements needed to do just that.

For those unfamiliar with FNAF, it takes place in a local pizza joint. The player takes the role of the night manager who is tasked with keeping an eye on the place throughout the night until the staff arrives the next morning. Particular attention needs to be given to animatronic animals that keep the kids entertained when the restaurant is open during the day. Anything else would need a spoiler alert, but if you haven’t already played the game and love a good scare, you should definitely give it a go.

Now, you can enjoy FNAF on your computer. Starting to play is easy, simply select the New game option on the start screen.

Once the game begins, you’ll find yourself in the security guard office where you’ll be able to control the cameras, doors and light switches.

At the start of the game you will get a call of a restaurant employee explaining how the business works and warning you about the animatronic characters mischief during the night. To ensure you’re not completely at the mercy of these creatures, you’ll have to control the security cameras. To use them you’ll need to move the mouse along the bar at the bottom of the screen and click on the camera number that you want to see.

Be careful though, because you have a limited amount of power, and using cameras, closing doors and switching the lights on will drain it. And once you’re run out of power you’ll find yourself defenseless. Just remember that your main role is to watch the restaurant, and you’ll have to check every camera and door to ensure you make it to dawn alive.
