Back in December 2021, the popular forum Reddit announced that it had plans to launch an initial public offering and become a publicly traded company. Now, over two years later, it seems that plan is finally going to happen very soon.

In a new presentation today before the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Reddit revealed its current financial number, along with the number of users that the online forum currently has. This means that the IPO could happen at any time. When it does, Reddit’s shares will be sold, bought, and traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “RDDT”.

Reddit also revealed that it generated $804 million in revenue in 2023, and that 98 percent of that money came from advertising. However, it also revealed that it is still not profitable, as it lost $90.8 million last year.

Momofuku Ando, a culinary inventor, launched instant ramen in August 1958 as a way to provide food to Japan in a post-war environment. At that time, it was known as Chikin Ramen and was considered a luxury product that cost six times more than fresh ramen. However, its price gradually decreased, and now it costs much less than what you can find in the shabbiest restaurant in the smallest town in the country.

Thirteen years later, Ando himself introduced an even easier-to-cook version of his instant noodles: the Cup Noodles. It was a cup to which you only needed to add water to enjoy a meal. If you’re using platforms from third-party Reddit portals like BaconReader or Apollo, you won’t see the Discovery feature. It doesn’t look like there are any plans for an updated API as yet, but who knows? It may be such a great demand, the developers may put something in place.
