The latest film by director Juanma Bajo Ulloa, titled El mal, has received mixed reviews that highlight its lack of depth and narrative consistency. The plot centers on a journalist who receives the confession of a serial killer, but according to several critics, it fails to effectively explore the psyche of its characters, getting bogged down in repetitive situations and artificial, pretentious dialogues.
The criticism is not happy
The film, marked by a script that many consider weak and cowardly, has been described as a blunder that is unaware of its own limitations. Although Bajo Ulloa shows flashes of talent in his daring staging, his personal signature seems to blur, leaving fans of his work with a sense of dissatisfaction. The secondary characters, such as the editor and his daughter, have a potential that is lost in the narrative, which helps to highlight the shortcomings of the main plot.
The criticisms also mention that the duration of the movie, which reaches two hours, is excessive. It is suggested that a more concise version could have significantly improved the visual and narrative experience. Despite the shortcomings, some action moments manage to capture the viewer’s attention, although they are not enough to compensate for the weakness of the script.
With the setback that El mal represents in his career, it is expected that Bajo Ulloa will return with more impactful projects in the future. In the end, this work has been seen as a missed opportunity to explore the complexity of evil and its consequences, leaving the audience yearning for more than what this production has offered.

A movie that has excited the critics
The movie has been described as a worthy sequel that expands the original story without falling into the trap of repeating previous plots. Critics highlight the emotional complexities and visceral violence that characterize the work, which promises to attract both horror genre fans and new viewers. The focus on three decades of a zombie apocalypse, which has already been part of the narrative, is presented in a way that remains relevant and exciting.
Publications like Total Film praise the film as the wildest and strangest in the saga, while Mashable highlights that DaCosta brings a bold and deep growth to the saga. In turn, the Variety critic emphasizes that the film represents a bold work that satisfies the need for a zombie movie that combines action and reflection. The Bone Temple is gory and reflective in equal parts, with a wit that raises the dramatic stakes amid the zombie chaos, adds Clint Gage from IGN.
As the release date approaches, expectations continue to grow, and critics seem to agree that 28 years later: The Temple of Bones could redefine the franchise and offer an unforgettable experience in theaters.
The penitentiary system does not work very well. The penitentiary system does not work very well. The number of repeat offenders is extremely high, and all studies state that any combination of therapy and medium-to-long-term follow-up, along with sociopolitical measures that address the issues leading to crime, works better. This does not prevent prisons from being one of our sad daily realities. And it does not seem that this will change anytime soon. That is why Netflix wondered, what would happen if there were a prison that did not confine its inmates? The result was the documentary “Sin cerrojos,” a prison experiment.
The sheriff of Arkansas, Eric Higgins, aware of the inhumane conditions in which the inmates of the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility lived, decided to try an experiment. For six weeks, the cells in certain sectors of the jail would not be locked, allowing prisoners to have greater control over their daily lives. To ensure there was motivation for cooperation, Higgins added a reward system based on good behavior, drawing on ideas from cognitive behavioral therapy.
Does that mean they opened the doors overnight and let them do whatever they wanted? No. They discussed it beforehand with the inmates, explained the conditions and how it would be carried out, and from there, they were given free rein to live their daily lives. However, with television cameras filming them 24 hours a day.
An experiment with unexpected results
The result of this was that, although there was no radical change, there was a certain improvement. The cleanliness was much better, the behavior of the inmates improved significantly, and, overall, it achieved a safer place.
All of this is shown in Sin cerrojos, a prison experiment. How under the right conditions, inmates behave more appropriately. Something that led Higgins himself to decide to expand this approach to more parts of the prison, and with more privileges. Making the life of the inmates simpler and more humane, even if it nearly got him in trouble with the Pulaski County he works for: state representatives considered that Higgins had no responsibility over the prison to allow filming inside, endangering not only the production of the documentary series but the experiment itself.
Moreover, it is an experiment that has not happened without controversy. Many people have seen this as a way to make individuals who should be punished in the most brutal way feel more comfortable. A perspective that does not align with what is supposed to be the function of prison: rehabilitate and punish. Similarly, prison abolition activists have criticized the violation of inmates’ privacy that involves placing cameras to record their lives without their ability to decide about it, and how, although they adapt to their lives, this hardly does anything to address the real problems of the prison system.
This criticism, legitimate, has been responded to by stating that they also do not have the budget or the authority to make more significant changes in the prison. This is how they have been able to carry out this experiment: with the willingness of all those involved and little more.
Now this documentary series arrives on Netflix to demonstrate that prison doesn’t have to be a filthy hole where people are locked up and the key is thrown away.Because even if this is not enough to improve the failed penitentiary system, it is a first step to show that it is possible to do better than we are doing. Although for that, in addition to the will of all those involved, the resources of the states will be needed to change an unjust system.

Promising, but perhaps we expected more
Reviews began to be published after the lifting of the embargo, and the reception has generally been moderate. GamesRadar gave Cronos a score of 3.5/5, highlighting its immersive atmosphere, which manages to create a unique character despite the obvious influences from iconic titles like Dead Space and Resident Evil. However, they also noted that the game is excessively sparse in its item economy, which affects the combat experience.
For its part, IGN gave it a rating of 7/10, emphasizing that while the game offers solid horror action, it does not represent a new era for the genre. Critic Tristan Ogilvie noted that Cronos lacks innovation in its combat, making it a monotonous and predictable experience. Despite this, the setting and narrative were well received.
In Game Informer, the rating was 7.75/10, where the family-friendly gameplay was praised although the frustrating implementation of jumpscares that sometimes lead to deadly situations was criticized. Endless Mode also joined the conversation with a score of 7.9/10, and an analysis that emphasizes the need for innovation driven by the scarcity of ammunition.
In summary, Cronos: The New Dawn presents a promising approach in narrative and atmosphere, but faces significant criticism in its combat and resource economy, leaving players with mixed feelings about its overall quality.

Ubisoft is in a complex situation in the current video game landscape. Although the company has released well-received games in recent years, it has also faced strong criticism because some of its productions, such as the highly anticipated Star Wars Outlaws, failed to meet player expectations. In a context where quality and content standards are higher than ever, Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, has expressed his concern about the growing criticism his company faces, which he has described as a “high” business risk factor.
They are bothered by being criticized for what they do wrong
During a recent meeting with investors, Guillemot emphasized that the impact of criticism can damage the company’s reputation, as it spreads through social media, distribution platforms, and specialized media, especially after strategic decisions or technical issues. “Ubisoft is exposed to risks of damage to its reputation as a result of online ‘bashing’,” he explained, emphasizing the new reality in which the perception of the video game industry as a cultural medium is influencing how users evaluate games.
This phenomenon has led to criticism focusing not only on gameplay and performance but also on ideological and social considerations, creating a complicated environment for publishers. Interestingly, Guillemot’s statements come at a time when Assassin’s Creed Shadows has reached 5 million players, after facing months of controversy in Japan. Looking ahead, Ubisoft seems ready to revolutionize the Assassin’s Creed series with the upcoming title known as Hexe, which promises an innovative approach to gameplay, although it has been mentioned that it may not be suitable for all players.

The details of the movie promise to pay homage to many of the iconic elements of the game. Among the highlighted scenes is the representation of redstone mines and a nod to Technoblade, with a crowned pig that will surely be a significant moment for the character’s followers.
